Firstly, as we live in Vienna we do not often stay overnight in this area - except maybe once a year in Mörbisch for the Operetta Festival. So our first shock was just how expensive an overnight in October is. Some hotels in Rust were charging over €150. This hotel is still extraordinarily expensive relative to its quality. ||||As I struggled to fit my car into the tiny car park (due to other guests parking in the middle of two lots) my partner asked for a room. Initially we were given a room with coffin-like single beds against opposite walls, but with a nice balcony and lake view. Asking instead for a double room we had a rather less attractive room, on the street side - and with a child's bed taking unnecessary space (one of the foldable ones which could clearly have been stored away) .. ||||So I think the first advice to couples is if you do not mind sleeping apart you my find the twin rooms better than the doubles. The road is noisy, and in summer it would be horrendous from about 11.30 pm onwards as the Mörbisch Festival empties and coaches and hundreds of cars must all pass this way just a few metres from your window. There is no air con. The street view is unattractive. ||||Our bathroom was large but with no bath only a shower with a trickle of water and a very grubby very old WC. The bed was fine.||||TV was from a museum but it worked.||||So far just about so good, but the breakfast was very disappointing and we wished we had simply not bothered as there is a great lakeside restaurant at the yacht marina which we saw serving great breakfasts. On an overnight away a Sunday breakfast ought to be a treat. This was an insult. Moreover the checkout time is 10 am so you have an idea who comes first in this hotel - not the guests! There seemed to be some management appearance at breakfast but no one checked the buffet or spoke to the guests - this is management by proxy. It is a sort of non management - without quality control.||||First at breakfast the sunniest nicest tables by the window are not in use and everyone is told to sit in the dark central area. The coffee was awful. The fruit salad was OK, but there was no ham. only processed sausage. Some curled-up cheese. In a hot box a large piece of stuck omelette, adhering firmly to the pan and totally inedible. It must have been there since the start of breakfast. I think they just put everything out and leave it - so empty trays may once have contained ham - who knows? ||||The hotel is dated, and on three floors with no lift. Access to the upper rooms with luggage is not easy. ||||Finally the sleep quality. The worst I have ever experienced. From the next room the voices were intolerable from 2 am - 4 am. I tried first to knock on the door and then the wall! As the hotel is not staffed at night there is no one to turn to. In fairness this was not just the poorly built hotel with poor room to room insulation but also loutish inconsiderate other guests ||||I guess if you are desperate for a bed during one of the opera or operetta seasons it might be worth staying here but I cannot see any other...
Read moreThis 3 star hotel could very easily be uprated to 4 star.||The hotel is very attractive from outside - see the website photo.||The swimming pool is an excellent feature.||The restaurant is spacious and well laid out.||||The first thing I would recommend is to get rid of the barkeeper who regards hotel guests as a nuisance who keep him back from playing games (or whatever) on the mobile phone which is always in his hand, an example of which was:||my wife asked for two beers to take up to the room. He placed the bottles on the bar, she asked if he could open them which he did. She then asked if she could have two glasses at which he rolled his eyes before grudgingly providing them. What would his reaction have been if we had asked for room service??||A WORD TO THE MANAGENENT - get rid of this guy or get him a job with one of your competitors.||||The room was a good size but everything was tired and worn out. The furniture was a mixture of dated styles. The bed end was loose and was held on with a variety of screws. There was an extra single bed covered with a red blanket and I'm sure those hairs on it were from a dog. ||||The bathroom was also large and dated. When showering I found myself standing in 3 or 4 cms of water because it doesn't drain away quickly enough. The washbasin table is loose on the wall because people probably use it as a support when leaving the shower.||||Wifi is available only in the lobby.||||There is no lift and lugging heavy cases up and down the stairs isn't really acceptable.||||If these points could be addressed this would be a great hotel. The owner also has another hotel as well as operating several boats on the lake so must have access to...
Read moreThis is a strange hotel. A big investment has been made to provide a very nice swimming pool, and also a new breakfast room. However, the bedrooms appear to have been untouched for many a long year and are very shabby. One electric socket per room; tv from the 70s (and therefore with no English channels); poor wifi and only available close to reception; furniture is basic. This was a disappointing hotel except that we received excellent and support and help from reception to resolve an issue with our bicycle. Unfortunately, that manager is normally at their sister hotel in Morbisch.||The owners of this hotel also own a hotel in Morbisch and a number of boats...
