The only person who was fluent in English was a younger receptionist. This is a problem that the entire service industry in Kitzbühel has, not only Kaiserhof hotel. However, a hotel should really do better. Other receptionists, waiters and waitresses speak very poor English. What they also lack is good organization, breakfast is a complete chaos. In theory there is a little podium where one of the staff should stand and take your room number and tell you where to sit, but 3 out 5 times there was no one there. The first time we waited for more than 5 minutes and since nobody showed up, so we just chose our own table. We weren't the only people who misguidedly waited for someone to show up and check their room number. In theory, you could have just walked in from the street and entered a breakfast area most of the times. The staff in general lacks training and seem inexperienced but the staff is not to blame, the hotel obviously lacks good management. There was also an incident where my father in law knocked down a beer in a sitting area in the lobby. A couple of days before, he hurt his shoulder in a skiing accident and was therefore only able to use his non-dominant arm. His shoulder is obviously hurt. We called one of the staff to help us clean the mess because there was a lot of beer and we didn't have enough handkerchiefs. One of them came, did not say a single word, did not respond to any of our questions, just angrily mopped up the mess and left. Similarly, a lot of the staff lacks any kind of charisma and is generally aloof. I don't know if this is because we are foreign and don't speak Austrian German or if they're like that with the locals as well. The pool is not as good as in the pictures, it's a lot smaller and much colder. But this is the problem that we encountered in other hotels as well, so it's not only Kaiserhof. The food is OK. The guy who makes you eggs for breakfast is great. The rooms are good, the cleaning service is good, and the guy that drives the car to the garage is good as well. I would also like to use this opportunity to warn you to stay away from a souvenir shop Kitzbüheler Ladl (Gänsbachgasse 1, near the church) since it's not possible to give them a review on Google. The store uses a really old cash register and the saleswoman is not very experienced when it comes to card payments. My payment went through and the money was taken from my account and I even double checked with my bank. But she wasn't sure that the payment went through because she had some problems with her machine so I left her my cellphone number and told her to call me if needed. She called a day later and said she didn't get any money at all. We asked her if we could pay with e-banking but she knew so little English that I don't think she knew what we wanted. She then threatened to call the police if we didn't come back to her store and pay her. I have notified my bank and gave them all the receipts and am waiting to see where the problem was. I understood her frustration as well and even felt a little sorry because of the complications - up until the point when she said something along the lines of "in Austria we just pick up our phone, call the police and they come." As opposed, I guess, to Croatia where we, poor Slavic barbarians, apparently don't have civilization and we can only use smoke signals to...
Read moreWe’ve just returned home after a weeks stay at the Kaiserhof having booked through Inghams. The journey from Salzburg airport to Kitzbuhel took approximately 2 hours as the traffic was quite bad on part of the route. However once there the hotel is in a perfect location for a skiing holiday, being 2 buildings away from the main Hahnenkamm gondola and almost directly opposite the main red run “21” which comes back into town. It is a short walk downhill to the bus and train station and approx 10 minutes into the old part of the town. |Our room was in the new south wing on the 3rd floor with views towards the famous Streiff. The room itself was not large but comfortable with plenty of storage/cupboard space and the usual amenities including tea & coffee making, and a mini bar. We did have a couple of issues with obtaining replenished supplies of tea bags and sugar, and were charged when asking for some at the bar. On the next occasion I approached reception instead and was very abruptly told to go to the restaurant. The staff there were going to redirect me to reception until I explained I had been told to go the restaurant! If a hotel is going to provide drinks in the room then it should ensure the housekeeping is replenishing the supplies or make it easier for guests to obtain extra as needed. It was a little frustrating as we didn’t want to have to go to the bar/ restaurant every time we wanted a drink. |The food served in the restaurant at both breakfast and dinner was excellent. There was a good mix of local dishes and other more international options, and we loved the local cheeses and ice cream counter for dessert. The wine selection was also good including local wines and schnapps. |The pool area with sun beds was a nice place to relax after a days skiing although at times it was busy, especially with it being the German school holidays whilst we were there. Robes and slippers were provided in our room for use in the spa. |The boot and ski room in the basement had easy access from outside, and had the usual communal ski racks and heated boot holders. |We rented our skis from the Intersport shop next to the Hahnenkamm gondola and they were excellent. We arrived late on the Saturday so had to go to collect them on Sunday morning and were concerned that it would be a scrum! How wrong we were - the staff were all ready and waiting to serve us with plenty of counters open so it was an easy and pleasant experience. |The skiing itself is a mix of mainly blues and red runs, being ideal for good intermediate skiers like us, and we managed to ski virtually the whole area in a week. Unfortunately the snow conditions were not great, being hard packed and icy, but the snow cannons were used to good effect to keep the runs open. The lift system is excellent and even when we joined what looked like a long queue we never waited more than about 10 minutes to get on the lift. The ski buses we used to get to Pass Thurn, Jochburg and around town were excellent being on time and regular. |Overall the Kaiserhof is a good hotel in an excellent location for a stay...
Read moreKaiderhof||We had a nice 5 day ski and stay||This is a solid hotel with a great location|It’s not luxury, even though the price may suggest it is. For Americans, I would say it’s a solid comparable to a Sheraton or Marriott. ||Rooms - Clean, some with spacious balconies and nice views of the mountain. Shower is exceptionally small. Peculiar because the bathroom overall is a good size. Not sure what the plan was, but certainly be aware. My wife and I are both normal BMI and we felt super cramped, unable to move much at all while in the shower. ||Service - excellent staff, very friendly and helpful.||Location - superb. Around 150 feet to the gondola from the ski room. Also easily walkable only 5-10 minutes to the center of town. ||Facilities - There is a small adequate gym, a ski/boot room (heated boot hangars), and a pool. Notably missing is a hot tub, again peculiar since the pool is so large. They have a tiny sauna, steam room and infrared room. Adequate and nice to use but certainly not luxurious or spacious (aside from the very large pool which I never saw anyone use). ||Food - nice restaurant with a rotating menu. We were quite satisfied with the food and service. ||Overall - we had a very enjoyable experience. It’s nothing luxurious like we have experienced at hotels in Zermatt, St Moritz or Courcheval. But I get the sense that Kitzbühel is more relaxed and less fancy in general, so I would say that the Kaiserhof is an excellent selection for this particular...
