We arrived at the tail end of a booming thunderstorm amidst a downpour. It was still raining moderately as we stepped out of our rental car.
A woman immediately came out to greet us, holding an umbrella for my wife and led her down the garden path to the door, also toting one of our suitcases. I brought in the rest of the luggage, and walked into the main lobby, where we were offered hot tea, coffee, and an assortment of fresh cakes and pastries.
This was only the very first experience we had at the Little Guesthouse, and I was already being treated better than anywhere I’ve ever stayed in my 35 years. And it only got better from there.
Their rooms are very cozy and bright, with large bathrooms, plush beds, and multi-functional windows with beautiful views of the surrounding residential area. Many look out into the small, but beautifully manicured garden area where guests can sit and decompress, and also take breakfast in the mornings.
Speaking of the breakfast… It’s not your typical continental breakfast. There was an assortment of meats, baked goods, gluten free bread (ask for it at least a day in advance), fruits, nuts, juices, hard eggs, and more. As we were eating, the owner/manager asked if we would each like a soft-boiled egg. He went back and personally prepared them, and they were perfect!
On the subject of gluten free bread and a mark of their hospitality- my wife asked GF bread at breakfast and they didn’t have any prepared, but the staff went out of their way to bake a fresh loaf on the spot. It came out hot and fresh, and I was in disbelief at how far they go to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable.
With that amazing start to our morning, we set out on our walk to Salzburg proper, which, from The Little Guesthouse, is a beautiful and simple 15-20 minute walk along the Salzach River.
I could say so much more about The Little Guesthouse. But in a nutshell, the staff are incredibly kind and generous, the rooms are exceptionally comfortable, the breakfast is plentiful, and the location is quiet, safe, and only a short walk from downtown Salzburg. I honestly don’t think I’ll consider staying anywhere else on my next trip to Salzburg.
I wish the owners and staff all the best, and continued success with The Little Guesthouse. I cannot...
Read moreWe stayed here for two nights on a trip to Salzburg. We loved the welcoming and friendly attention from the staff who speak English but were kind enough to let me try my bisschen Deutsch. I liked the fact that I think we were the only Americans in the whole place when we stayed. The rooms are cute and clean and the garden area is gorgeous and they even have two bunnies!! My kids loved that. The kitchen is also open 24 hours so you can grab a coffee (free) and a beer/water/wine from the honor bar at any time. Breakfast is European style but delicious and included in the rate.
Fair warning - the house is bit of out of the main areas of the town, so you probably won't want to walk it. But that is a positive as you are away from the masses of tourists in a peaceful setting. Also, public transportation is included in the room rate and the buses are clean and punctual - we used them frequently - and a cab each way to anywhere downtown takes less than 10 minutes and only costs about 12-15 Euros.

Read moreWe had a wonderful time here. Smallscale guesthouse in a quited and green area of Salzburg. You can reach the city easily by foot or on bike.
Rooms are small but contain everything you need. Big enough for a short stay. We use it as a stop on our way south with 2 big suitcases. Bathroom is clean and neat. I should have made a shower in it in stead of a bath/shower combi. Bed is very comfortabel. We had a balcony as an extra with gardenview.
It is not only the house that makes this place. It also the people who run it. So much warmth to their guests. So much eye on detail. You feel the love they put in it. The garden is beautiful. Breakfast is superb. You can rent bikes for free. Coffee or tea with cake also free of charge. I wonder why we were the only Dutch people here 🤪
Our thanks go out to the whole team. You made our stay one to never forget.
