Alpina Alpendorf — Hotel in Sankt Johann im Pongau

Long story, short: Nice sauna and gym. The hotel is right next to the lift. Outrageously bad dinner, I have no idea why I see so many positive reviews on the food - It was terrible! However, breakfast was nice. Unprofessional staff. All-in-all I'd conclude this place is extremely overpriced. and I'm 100% not coming back, even if I could stay for free.

Cons: The dinner is terrible (absolutely shocking that a 4-star hotel is serving such bad food - Their restaurant deserves to get a visit from Gordan Ramsay for Kitchen Nightmares). My GF and I are not Michelin chasers, but we have at least some basic standards for the food we consume and most dishes I sent back after one bite. Absolutely horrendous. The afternoon cakes tasted terrible - I have bought frozen cakes from the supermarket that tasted better. Staff is very unprofessional and/or unkind (except the one guy working in the reception). At the bbq night, the chef didn't even know half of the meat/sausages served. The bistro was also terrible, we order a burger and the bun was hard as a rock.

My thoughts:

If you have kids and don't care about food, but like that everything is sorted and close by then this is the place. There seemed to be plenty of activities for small ones, the ski lift is right next door and the pistes are short and easy for beginners. However, if you care about good food and long pistes then I'd say look elsewhere. My GF and I was shocked how the standard for the food served could be as low as it was. We realized that there are only a few hotels in Alpendorf so once you are checked in you don't really have an option to eat anywhere else unless you have a car and can go down to St. Johann. So they basically cut down on the quality of the ingredients and the quality of the cooking. I have NEVER been this disappointed in the food served - My stomach still turns when I think about it. I will definitely stick to the French alps for the future.

To me, the Alpina hotel is the kind of four-star hotel that only tries to check the boxes to label itself as a four-star hotel, but in reality, could easily be a scrappy two-star. Worst four-star hotel experience I...

Stayed 4 nights recently at the Alpina as part of a trip to Austria and absolutely loved this hotel. We stayed in a family room which had a separate sleeping area for children, the room was very comfortable and appeared to be recently refurbished, with a balcony with beautiful view of the mountains. The hotel is beautiful from top to bottom, the infinity pool was wonderful and we also enjoyed the indoor pool (plus our children loved the slide/small pool). We booked the deluxe meal plan which was well worth it, the food in the restaurant was fantastic - beautifully presented and always of a very high standard. Breakfast was also great, particularly the pancakes and waffles made to order and (my highlight) the freshly squeezed orange juice machine. We also had lunch in the Italian restaurant which was also very good. ||The facilities at the hotel are great, we used the spa (for massage and manicure - excellent) the tennis court and golf simulator, and our children loved the adventure playground in front of the hotel. We didn’t use the mini club but there seemed to be plenty of children’s activities available.||The only thing which could possibly have improved our stay would be air con in the rooms as it was very hot during our stay although it wasn’t too bad in the room as we were given fans by reception and closed our curtains when we were out to keep cool. It also tended to get cooler at night. ||So all in all we absolutely loved this hotel, I only wish we could have stayed longer. We had the hotel transfer from the airport which was excellent, next time I might hire a car and stay longer as there is lots to do in the local area.||Staff throughout the hotel were great, particularly the reception and spa staff. ||Look forward to...

Wir haben einen Aufenthalt von 2 Nächten in diesem Hotel “erlebt”. Wir wollten eigentlich in Ruhe unseren Jahrestag in den Alpen verbringen und haben uns von den vorigen Bewertungen und Bildern des Hotels locken lassen. Was gut lief: Die bestellten Rosen standen als Überraschung im Zimmer. Kommen wir zu den negativen Punkten: Ich hatte mich vorab telefonisch extra informiert, ob für unser Auto (aufgrund der Größe) ein Parkplatz vorhanden ist. Dies wurde ausdrücklich bejaht. Dort angekommen war aber kein passender Parkplatz für uns und wir mussten beim Nachbarhotel Parken. Wir kamen gerade eben so noch die Einfahrt vom Check in herunter gefahren.. .Es war verdammt knapp. Am Empfang begrüßte uns dann eine Dame die der deutschen Sprache kaum mächtig war und sich zudem sehr verhalten zeigte. Diese verließ während des Prozesses die Rezeption wortlos und ließ uns 5 Minuten ohne weitere Informationen stehen. Jedoch geleitete sie uns dann netterweise zu unserem Zimmer. Ich denke wir hätten dieses sonst auch kaum bei den engen und verschachtelten Fluren gefunden. Dieses Zimmer wurde mit „Gondelblick“ beworben. Die Gondel war jedoch kaum sichtbar und der Ausblick bestand zu 75% aus einer Betonmauer. Die Fotos waren geschickt gemacht und suggerierten einen besseren Ausblick. Bis dahin ist alles „Fair Play“. Was jedoch überhaupt nicht erwähnt wurde, ist die Aufbereitungsanlage des Wellness Bereiches die sich direkt unter dem Balkon befand. Hierdurch kam es durchgängig zu Lärmbelästigung durch die Pumpe/Lüfter die selbst bei geschlossenem Fenster hörbar war. Hinzu kam ein stechender Geruch nach Chlor sobald man die Fenster öffnete oder Zeit auf dem Balkon verbringen wollte. Besonders negativ, weil man auch die Temperatur im Zimmer nicht selbständig regulieren konnte. Dies entspricht in unseren Augen keinem 4 Sterne, geschweige denn 4 Sterne Superior Standard. Das Zimmer an sich war hingegen ein Lichtblick, geräumig hochwertige Möbel und das Bad war ein Highlight. Das WC jedoch wirkte aufgrund der schwarz lackierten Toilettenbrille unsauber, weil sich der Reiniger in Lack und Plastik gefressen hatte. Die Lüfter in WC und Bad waren auch sehr laut. Genauso wie der Automat welcher im Erdgeschoss steht und bis ins Treppenhaus des dritten Stockwerkes zu hören ist. Der Fernseher im Zimmer ist aus dem Jahre 1992 worüber wir doch sehr lachen mussten, weil es kaum zu glauben war. Das Lachen verlies uns jedoch am nächsten Morgen beim Frühstück. Dort wurden wir von einer Dame „begrüßt“ mit den Worten: „genau so wie gestern Abend“ wir reagierten verwirrt, weil uns noch kein Platz zugewiesen wurde. Darauf skandierte sie durch den gesamten Raum: „Ach, sie haben nur Frühstück gebucht ? Dann müssen wir mal schauen“, Ein wirklich unangemessener Kommentar. Sie wies uns dann eine Ecke zu die eher an ein Brauhaus und nicht eines beworbenen "Panorama Restaurants" entsprach. Die Gäste mit Halbpension wurden anders platziert. Daher waren wir auch zunächst unsicher, ob es nicht doch besser gewesen wäre die Habpension zu buchen, da man sich so als Gast zweiter Klasse gefühlt hat und von dem Servicepersonal behandelt wurde. Nach einem Blick auf das 5-Gänge Menü waren wir jedoch sehr glücklich dies nicht getan zu haben. Für 48€ p.P. erhielten Gäste Fertiggerichte, die man im Supermarkt kaufen kann. Die Hauptspeise sollte ein Curry mit Basmatireis und „Planted.Chicken“ sein, das „Hühnchen“ war vegetarische Convenience Ware und keines falls 48€ Wert. Wir waren froh das Abendessen nicht gebucht zu haben und stattdessen im Nachbarhotel für weniger Geld wirklich hervorragend gegessen zu haben. Dort wurden wir entsprechend eines 4 Sterne Standards behandelt und das Essen mit echtem Fleisch und hochwertigen Lebensmitteln hat inklusive Drinks weniger als 45€ p.P. gekostet.
