A small group of us (all adults) stayed in this no-frills, typically Tyrolean property for 4 nights In early February. We flew into Salzburg airport and then transferred to St Johann using Austria Taxis which we pre-booked and took about an hour each way.||||The location is excellent, situated in a small quiet side street about 2 minutes walk from the bottom of the ski slopes and Max's apres-ski bar (turn left out of hotel and then left again) another minute to the ski hire shop and then 1 more to the main Gondola and ski bus stop if you want to take a trip to the Steinplatte 30 mins away which is well recommended for more extensive skiing. There are several nice restaurants within about a 5 minute walk (or you can have dinner in the hotel for €20 pp) and venture into the centre of St Johann within about 10 minutes. ||||We had 3 double rooms between us one of which was smaller than the others and all with shower only, no bath. The rooms and property in general were very clean but only a wardrobe with shelves was provided, no drawers so storage was a bit limited. The only English channels on the TV were news channels (BBC, Sky, CNN) but that didn't bother us as we weren't there to watch TV! A fairly decent hairdryer (plug in sort) was provided and also a kettle but only tiny plastic cups and no coffee/tea so take your own. Beds were fairly comfy and there was free wifi which seemed to work well.||||Breakfast was standard continental fare together with bacon, scrambled eggs and American style pancakes which were quickly replenished when getting low. There was a good selection of teas but no English Breakfast so take your own PG tips if you fancy a decent brew!||||A heated ski room was situated in the basement but it was quite small and soon got full up with equipment and only room for maybe 3-4 people at time to sort themselves out with their kit but did the job. There was also a sauna but only available at certain times.||||The only real drawback of this property is that there is no bar/lounge area which you might expect from a property calling itself a "Hotel". As non-smokers we would have really welcomed this as the bars are so smoky in Austria to the extent that it's often uncomfortable to stay in them and would have much preferred to spend time playing cards/games with a quiet drink in a nice atmosphere. Apart from that we really enjoyed our stay and appreciated the early check-in/later check-out which we requested in advance and was kindly afforded to us enabling us to maximise our time...
Read moreI don’t recommend this hotel. Really bad experience, I use all the time hotels and mountain huts because I am mountain guide. We drove 8 hours to sleep here and the next day we needed early breakfast because we climbed in the Wilder Kaiser. I asked for the option to have a early breakfast (for example just a thermo caffe and some biscuits waiting for us in the room or in the bar) because we needed wake up 6.00 (breakfast started 7.30) and the man in the reception only wanted to give me bad education, shout me, be nervous, said me it is not booked, and blablabla, finally any solution.
The most fun it was that he said me he doesn’t work 24 hours, when cook a cafe thermo and some biscuits is 10 min, we don’t need a waiter service in this time.
This man has or work in an hotel around the mountains where people climb, go ski, go trekking, ride bikes, etc wake up sometimes early…and normally travellers need some help, the two individual rooms were really expensive and finally he didn’t ask for return the breakfast money, only wanted have money in his hand and say me search you the life at 20.30 in the night.
Please man, try to not response this message, only do your work and the next time try to give solutions to your customers, don’t steel the money the people and not lie because no body said you 5.30 breakfast. You didn’t want give any solution and heard nothing.
Maybe it is normal in Austria give this pathetic service. Or maybe you hadn’t a good day.
For me next time with my groups or my clienta I go other...
