I stayed at the Platinum Residence Hotel in Dhaka. It’s a newly built hotel and I read the reviews prior to booking two rooms, one a twin room and one double. It was fine at first but lttle did I realise that it is on a very busy main road which would not have been a problem had they sound proofed the windows because in the evening all I can hear is traffic, tooting of horns and dogs barking loudly. As an animal lover, I do not blame the dogs because that’s what dogs do, they bark. My room has a balcony which is nice because it allows for some type of fresh air and I need this but the noise has kept me awake most nights. Towards my second week here, my keycard stopped working on a couple of occasions, the hair dryer stopped working completely, you can not seem to turn the air con on without turning all lights on with your entry card so, when it is really warm and you need the light off but the air con on, it seems an impossibility, lights in the room would go off and come back on which, was a problem because I was sleeping on one occasion and it woke me with all the lights coming on and on another occasion, I was on my iPad trying to do some work when the whole building electrical system went down, the safe in the room stopped working although, the maintenance guy said he had apparently fixed the issue, it stopped locking and unlocking. It’s as though slowly, things started going downhill. I have stayed in several hotels around the world and not one hotel I have stayed in will allow their house keeping to come in to your room if you have not clearly displayed the “make my room” sign. If you put no sign on your door at all, they always leave your room alone until you display this sign without the need to display “do not disturb”. But I had no sign on my door at all and when i arrived back at the hotel, my room had been made up for me!. I did not expect this. On previous occasions, I had not displayed any sign and no one had entered my room. As a lawyer who has to travel and stay in different hotels, I like my privacy and hope this can be maintained at this hotel. My first attempt at paying the room bill in full on my first day of arriving ended in a farce due to the man at reception not having enough knowledge as to whether he is able to accept a Visa Debit card!!. He said it has to be a credit card!, little did he know that visa debit is excepted all over the world. The hotel bases their prices on U.S dollars and that is then converted in to Bangladesh Taka. The sales manager though, is quite knowledgeable, understanding, educated and speaks quite good English and appears to be well informed in his field of training which, helped because he then dealt with this initial credit / debit card problem. On the plus side and yes, there is a plus side.....the staff are extremely friendly, the security is exceptional and they do their best to please. They do not treat you like a room number but as individuals as they get to know you. All the staff, from the kitchen staff, security, waiters, reception, etc are very friendly and polite and they try their best to accommodate you. As a new hotel building i would assume a few staff are new to this field and may be in need of some form of training. This will be a learning curve for them all as time goes by. The building itself though being built near a very busy road is unite frustrating, considering the noise affects your sleep in the evening and they should have considered sound proofing if not the back of the building at least the front of the building. I eventually bought myself earplugs due to this issue. I know this is a long review but if a previous customer had left a more in-depth review like this, would I of booked this hotel?, I highly doubt it. Would I book this hotel again?, I cannot honestly say whether I would or not,...
