If you only have 80 EUR to spend for two, but want a double room, which is almost brand new, offers all the comfort of a fully equipped studio, which is located in a quiet residential area, with easy access to central Brussels, then look no further. Too good to be true? Maybe.||1) The B&B: 4 studios in a recently converted, architecturally unappealing house, located in a boring residential area of Auderghem, one of Brussels’ 19 communes. Once you are inside your studio, the impression is nevertheless very positive. The B&B website hyperlinks to a virtual tour of each studio. Take a look. The studios were obviously designed for medium to long-term rentals (1 week, 1 month or more), possibly for students or not too well off Eurocrates. But the owner will accommodate short-term guests.||2) The Studios: we had the Studio Corail, which occupies most of the second floor. The room is very bright, and overlooks the garden (accessible to patrons). It has an individual, albeit tiny, shower room (knees ram the sink when sitting on the toilet), a fully equipped kitchen (dining table, gas hobs, microwave, fridge, but no oven), a reasonably sized double-bedroom, combined with a lounge corner (desk, sofa, TV, DVD, CD/radio/tape). Furniture and appliances were fairly new (lots from Ikea), although I found the mattress too soft, and the slatted bed base was squeaking every time I turned. The owner's obsession with colour themes (one wall was red, and so was the kitchen, and the bath towels, and the dining table, and the tableware, and...) was not exactly my cup of tea. But be warned: it is a studio, not a hotel room, so if you want to get away from the feeling of actually being at home, this is not the right place for you.||3) Location: Auderghem is well outside central Brussels, and it has no sites of interest. However, the B&B is only a few hundred yards from the Delta and Hankar metro stations, both situated on the main line, which takes you to the Gare Centrale in 10 minutes, and even all the way to the Atomium in 25 minutes. The Chaussée de Wavre, with its supermarkets and bakeries, is only a 5 minutes walk. Perfect, you may say. Unfortunately, I feel I must put in another word of caution. The Delta metro station is notorious for being the stage of after hours acts of violence. End of April 2007, an employee of the Brussels transportation company was savagely lynched by a group of drunken teenagers. Also, the nearby university campus of La Plaine is not the safest place in town. Two SOS poles stand in sad testimony of the growing violence in big cities. I would not have written these lines had it not been for the fact that my girlfriend was stalked on the nearby Chaussée de Wavre, on the night of our arrival. I know, it probably happens elsewhere too.||In a nutshell, it is a very good address if you want to cater for yourself and don't want a room with a view on the Grand Place. I have strong reservations about its location. On this ground, it deserves a 3.5, rather than a 4, for the overall...
Read moreThe room was very clean, fully equiped and the internet was working well. ||Supermarkets and cafes are in walking distance, so it is no problem that no breakfast is served at the appartement housing.||To get to the metro you have to walk for about five minutes, which is also fine and to get to the central station it takes about fifteen minutes.||||The only negative comment is, that when we arrived it was very cold in the room (outside temperature was -7, so freezing). It took about half a day until the room temperature was comfortable. But luckily we found an extra blanket. So it wasn't a big deal. ||||Overall I would recommend this place, the price-performance-ratio was good and also the hosts are very friendly...
Read moreDear readers, I have liked my stay at Brussels BnB very much! It was a nice, quiet room (with perfect equipment), the internet was working fine, a great kitchen, and you have your own toilet and bathroom; moreover, the owners of the B&B are very friendly people. This is simply a perfect place for both tourists and scientists. Tourists can travel easily to the city center by underground and scientists are at only a few minutes walking distance from the Free University of Brussels. I will definitely recommend it to my friends and colleagues and I personally hope to...
