The Old House is the most welcoming and warm hostel I have ever stayed at. The rooms are clean, plenty of bathrooms, the road next to it is not very loud, they offer cheap tours and experiences, and the staff give advice as if they were family. Aldo, the owner, is always willing to help you in any matter. As for things to donate to the hostel, you can have movie nights on the terrace, as they have a computer and a projector available. There is also a bar downstairs that opens on Wednesdays and Fridays; they have live music, but don’t worry about noise, they close shop at 11pm sharp.I would definitely recommend Old House to anyone visiting San Ignacio, or even Belize, as the atmosphere there is worth experiencing. Thank you, Aldo, the front desk staff and the rest of the team for making this happen. Also, really close to the city center!

I stayed for one night in March. My bedding was very tidy and clean! I didn't use the kitchen, but at a glance, the fridge looked pretty dirty and gross. Bathroom was clean and smelled nice, but I was disgusted that the sink drained sooo slowly. (No one wants to see their spit float around in there.) It wasn't immediately clear who the owners are, but I got it figured out. Not having AC was rough for me! Great price for what you get!

Absolutely loved my stay at Old House. Aldo and Ethan were super welcoming and helpful! They went out of their way to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves (despite the bad weather we were having) by organizing activities at the hostel as well as local tours. The facilities are great too, everything is kept very neat and clean in the bedrooms, bathrooms, and shared kitchen. Will happily come back next time I'm around!

once again, I'm sure the hotel manager and staff are lovely people but the way they treated me was abhorrent and unprofessional.

constructive feedback: it's not nice to keep going up to a guest to tell them they're lying on multiple days when on your record it clearly states that I had come in and paid, and I was not asked to pay again instead of blaming your staff and saying things like "X always makes these mistakes", apologise and give a real alternative don't go on a drug rant to another local who I had made friends with and tell them that i'm bitching, while i'm a guest at your hostel, it's quite unwelcoming Aldo don't lie on hostelworld and state that you offered me a dorm in another hostel, when what I was initially offered was the day bed next to the kitchen, which is clearly not made for sleeping and at the time was a mockery of the situation don't make this an issue about what bunk it was. if it was solved professionally it would not have been a problem at all. my issue was with how unprofessionally and rudely you, especially you Aldo, acted, once I flagged an issue while I was there, another girl also had all her stuff from her bed moved and it was then given to someone else. seems like this bed switching situation is somewhat frequent. Maybe work on a better system.

In the end, because of how Aldo was treating me (to my face and to others, as I'd heard through word of mouth), I ended up spending minimal time at this hostel, only coming in to sleep...

Great hostel with amazing staff. There were super nice facilities and communal areas, where we spent a long time talking to staff- especially Ethan and Nate. Some things to note: it can get pretty loud since it is right near a busy road that some people gun it up. This never affected my sleep, but was more than noticeable. There is no air conditioning, but after around 7 pm (at least in August) it was more than comfortable with or without the provided fans. There is no hot water upstairs, but there are showers with hot water downstairs. I never found myself using this, as the cold water felt amazing. The beds do not have curtains, but the lockers under the beds are massive and very nice. The staff has two pets. A big dog and an orange cat named Roach who we fell in love with. The hostel is also in a great location! Just a 1-2 minute walk to the heart of town.

We highly recommend this hostel. It was relaxed and has the best staff around. Really felt like stopping by a...

There is a bar downstairs that hosts live music on Wed and Fri evenings, on other nights they blast very bass-y music from 6pm onward. The walls and floor must be paper thin as it felt like I had a private booth backstage at the concert from my bed - literally the bed was vibrating. The private room also does not have a complete wall (gap to ceiling), so every bit of chatter that goes on can be clearly and loudly heard from your bed. Even with earplugs jammed dangerously far into my ears, I struggled to sleep which made my stay quite miserable and ruined any hope of experiencing the "good vibe" I read in reviews. Nowhere on the hostels website does it mention loud, live music multiple nights per week - would have been nice to know about this in advance so you could book elsewhere if peace and quiet is something that you value.

Aside from the loud music, bed was comfy and washroom...
