Kawoq. Hostel was PERFECT for my stay in San Ignacio. More than the affordability, location, cleanliness (SO CLEAN) and comfort was Javier! Javier greeted me with a welcoming smile and a pleasant demeanor (as he did with large and small groups alike). His knowledge of the area was amazing while His enthusiasm for Belize, Guatemala and The Maya culture was infectious. I was able to get to know Javier over my week stay. He took time to talk to anyone who was interested while maintaining, cleaning, checking ins and outs and doing laundry. While asking him overwhelming amount of questions about the Mayan Civilization he mentioned his tour guide experience. Since I was the only person at the hostel on my last day stay I was lucky enough to go with Javier as a tour guide of Tikal! WOW! What an amazing experience. He arranged a car, helped me across the boarder and took me to the best places to eat. But the Best was his tour of Tikal. We stayed the whole day. I learned more than I could have imagined and had the best VIP tour. I'll say I met Javier as an employee of Kawoq but I left there with a Friend. Thank you Kawoq! Thank...
Read moreI am very disappointed! I booked a full tour with 2 other guests to explore a waterfall, following recommendations from Gill, a member of staff. We were promised an incredible experience, but to our surprise, we didn’t even get half of what we were sold! The tour was much shorter, with no snacks and water as agreed. We tried to discuss the situation with Gill, but he refused to acknowledge any responsibility. This is unacceptable and very frustrating, especially for the price we paid. Another thing that was really weird was that they overbooked, and tried to put 2 extra matrasses inside our dorm, while there was clearly not enough space as you would have to step over people to go to the bathroom at night. In addition, in case of an emergency there would not be a safe way to exit the room, which is very unprofessional as well. We would strongly advise against this hotel, as honesty and respect for guests do not seem to be...
Read moreI really enjoyed my stay here at this hostel. |The owner was very lovely and chatty, making us most welcome.|It's centrally located, perfect for strolling round San Ignacio and getting picked up for various local activities. |There's communal areas both inside and out - we made the most of the hammocks and armchairs, playing games and a Beer Pong tournament on our final night. |The rooms were nice and spacious. I slept really well both nights, which is a massive win. The air con did turn off during the day (you can pay for extra) but this didn't impact us massively because who needs air con during the day? |Showers and toilets also perfect! |Would recommend if you're heading to...
