Buttonwood Belize — Hotel in Stann Creek District

We loved our experience at Buttonwood! Staying in the Southwater room felt completely private, clean, comfortable, and unique. The shower is built for two with double heads and sinks. The room has a water 5-gallon water dispenser, reducing plastic in the local environment, so being your reusable bottle!

The restaurant next door has drums every night, which is very cool and they respectfully closed down around 9:30 at the latest during our stay. The noise was never an issue. We slept with the A/C off and doors open every night, feeling safe and lulled to sleep by wind in the palms and waves on the beach.

We also never used the A/C during the day because we were never there. The VERY helpful and useful app kept us in communication with the office and informed of activities in advance. We loved kayaking the mangroves, the bioluminescent lagoon tour, and the hike through Bocawina, all of which were completely private and magical. I do suggest booking island hopping and snorkeling in advance - we lazily did not and lost our chance because as they were booked solid. The tours are all paid through your hotel bill, but I do recommend tipping your guides. They were all very helpful and sweet. The shuttle offered to/from Dangriga was also a huge help!

It's very clear the owners put every waking thought into running and improving Buttonwood, Coconut Row, and Coconut Husk. I think Coconut Row is probably more enjoyable for kids because the pool is located there, but it's just a short walk down the road. Buttonwood seemed more ideal for adults, but as a childless adult myself.. I might just be bias.

I suggest bringing both cash and bug spray. Like most beach resorts, there are sand insects during twilight and, while they didn't bite my mate even once, they savagely devoured me. Most restaurants in town, all worth visiting and within walking distance,...

My partner & I spent two nights in the Aquarius Room of Buttonwood at the end of our trip to Belize and both of us wished we could stay longer! Super-clean, super-comfortable room with high-end furnishings & amenities, and access to the restaurant, pool & additional beach amenities at Coconut Row were an incredible value for the nightly rate for the room!||We also pre-booked an arrival car service from Dangriga and a shuttle return to the airport at the end of our stay directly through the property. Though the former ended up being rather expensive compared to what we could've arranged for ourselves, the airport shuttle was priced the same as others I saw online and the convenience & reliability of pre-booking both were ultimately worth it.||The proprietor and all the employees we met--special shout-out to Chantal & Deyri at the Front Desk!
