Ok, I'm going to level with you. Not to put on airs, but I've had meals all over the world, from Kyoto to Florence, New York, San Fransisco to high in the Canadian Rockies. Our dinner here at Hopkins Smokey Grill was a top meal of my life. My wife got the Jerk Chicken, which was so tender, and at medium heat had a nice kick that wasn't punishing. I couldn't decide between the Coconut Shrimp, or the special Shrimp & Ginger, so I ordered both 😋 The coconut shrimp was plump and the breading was so crispy, perfectly done with big shavings of tender sweet coconut. The Shrimp & Ginger was tender and had so much flavor, after I ate the shrimp I put in some coconut rice just to soak up the sauce. This is one of those meals I'll tell people about, and compare meals to from now on. The proprietors were sweet and welcoming, and should be immensely proud of what they do. It's not everyone who can do what they do, and to do it at such a high level. When we inevitably return to this beautiful country, no matter where we stay we'll be back. Thanks for an...
Read moreAbsolutey loved the Smokey Grill. My son and his two brother-in-laws and I had lunch at the Grill one afternoon during our family stay in Hopkins. Lunch was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed talking to the owner. My son asked about whether she knew of anyone that would guide him for fishing (he loves fly fishing and fishing of all kind) and she set up him for a guide this past week during our stay. He had asked her if he and his brother-in-law would be able to bring the fish to her to cook if they caugh any and she said no problem and she would provide a sit down family buffet style dinner for all 11 of us). So my son and his brother-in-law caught a kingfigh, several bonitos and a large baraccuda. The owner cooked the best meal I think I've ever eaten anywhere. She cooked a fish curry with one of the bonitos, grilled the kingfish which was unbelievably good! We loved everything about the evening and I highly recommend anyone visiting Hopkins to do not miss lunch or dinner at the Smokey Grill. You...
Read moreWe had stopped by this place earlier in the week and chatted with Mrs Barbara when they weren’t open. She gave us directions and we had a nice chat about how nice people were in Belize and she said that they had to show us double the love because of Covid! When we finally made it back to eat we were blown away. It was a hot day and I ordered the watermelon juice. Mrs. Barbara then asked if I wanted it as a slushie! Yes! It was the best! We were then going to order the sweet potato fries and Mrs Barbara said how about a mix of cassava and sweet potato? Sure! Delicious! Then I had what we came for...the shrimp pineapple bowl! It’s technically on the dinner menu and we were there for lunch but when we asked if we could order it anyway of course Mrs. Barbara said you can have whatever you want! I was blown away by this dish. It was so full of flavor and just perfect. I recommend adding a little hot sauce for a little sweet & spicy feel. Do not...
