Stayed here 27th-30th December 2013 and therefore I believe that the pousada had put their prices up as the quality that they delivered certainly wasn't worth what we paid. ||||The hotel is outside of the centre of Paraty and it took us 15-20 mins to walk into the centre (I don't know why other reviews are saying 40 mins. Also the hill isn't that big!) It's right on the beach at Jabaquara and there are plenty of bars and restaurants, so in my mind, the location is perfect.||||The hotel is like an American motel style with your room door facing an outside courtyard area. There's also access to the pool. We used the pool once in the evening and it was very pleasant, the water wasn't too cold. However there didn't seem to be enough loungers to accommodate all the people that wanted to use the pool.||||The room was ok in that it had two beds - one single and one double and a bathroom. On the plus side: beds were comfy, the AC worked and there was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. On the minus side: the decor is dated, basic and clunky; windows wouldn't stay open; no toiletries to use; no hairdryer; no safe and we were not given towels on our first day. When we asked about the towels, no one seemed to understand and kept fobbing us off to go and ask someone else. We hoped that the maid would give us some the next day, but our room wasn't cleaned. It was then we noticed the sign that you have to hand your key into reception to get your room cleaned (this sign is in Portuguese only). Also on the minus side, there seemed to be tiny insects all over the floor near the wall.||||The breakfast was one of the best I had in Brazil as there was so much choice and so much of it. Cakes, bread, cheese, meats, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juice etc and the room for breakfast was very pleasant, overlooking the sea although having the TV on was quite annoying and intrusive.||||The staff were tricky and disinterested. They do not speak any English, but thankfully my friend speaks basic Portuguese, so we managed to resolve the issues with the towels and they booked us a taxi to the bus station.||||Personally, if I had a choice I wouldn't stay here again, but I would definitely stay in Jabaquara, it's a...
Read moreThe room we booked 3 months in advance and paid a deposit for was not available so we were downgraded. Initially they still wanted the full price. After an hour discussion trying to explain that this was not acceptable (no one speaks any English so we had to speak in broken Spanish) they decided our room was available. The staff were not remotely apologetic at any point and made us feel we were an inconvenience.||We were paying the vastly inflated prices around new year as is standard in Brazil (565 BRL per night) and yet they did not clean our room once in 4 days! We had to ask for clean towels and more soap. The sheet did not fit the bed and so could not be tucked in at all sides.||The rooms are mediocre and looking dated with windows that don't close properly (letting Mosquitos in), the air conditioning unit is old and very loud. The sheet did not fit the bed and so could not be tucked in at all sides.||The pool is reasonably nice but there is no shade at all and some grimey tide marks. ||The location is directly opposite Jabaquera beach and near the very nice restaurant Luna but a long way from the historic centre (40 mins over a steep hill) which is where all the sights and good restaurants are.||Comfortably the worst value room I have ever...
