The hotel seems to get a lot of negative reviews, for its location and price you could do a lot worse. It would not be my first choice if I had options but I am staying during Rio+20 where literally every hotel is booked.
There are a lot of positives, even though the rooms are dated they are clean and are comfortable. The electrical outlets are 110/220 which is very convenient for my American electronics and all of the basics are covered. The beds have a low thread count sheet and no blankets on the beds, but you wont need them as the A/C has the nobs pulled off and only runs on what seems to be a fan only. The charge for internet is R$15 per day, however if you go to the lobby and connect to the wireless for free, you can then come to your room and continue to browse at no charge (no, I am not cheap, I just HATE paying for the internet!)
The rooftop pool has an amazing view, you can see Christ the Redeemer statue from the rooftop which is an awe inspiring view. There is also a limited gym which is a nice amenity.
The location is just a few blocks from the beach and there is a supermarket across the street as well as many other shopping options. The low income housing surrounds the hotel, but it does not feel unsafe.
So... here is the reason I rated the Service terrible and also a word of warning. When I checked in, they actually checked me into a room who already had guests, they were out at the time but I had access to their room with the keycard they gave me and all their belongings were spread out. Naturally I just left and confronted the front desk staff, but I am worried that someone could access my room and steal my electronics or other. To reinforce my fear, the next day my keycard stopped working, I went down and let them know the room number and they keyed me a new card without asking for ID. There is no safe in the room, so ... bring valuables at...
Read moreGiven the price, one might adjust their expectations, however, the quality of customer service was unacceptably poor. Our experience began with needing to report an issue in our room at 7 PM, an issue that required two more reports before the manager finally decided to intervene. After a brief inspection, the bellboy promised to inform the manager about the issue's validity, leaving us in a limbo of waiting. By 9 PM, without any communication, we were compelled to seek updates ourselves, at which point manager Silvestre wrongly claimed the bellboy had reported everything was okay. Silvestre committed to solving the issue, asking us to wait longer.
By 10 PM, with the shift change, we met another manager who, citing time restrictions, claimed incapacity to offer a solution, pointing to a hotel policy that apparently disapproves of taking action. He unsuccessfully attempted to relocate us to another room. The situation escalated at midnight when announcing our intention to file a formal complaint, the manager raised his voice and displayed an openly discriminatory attitude, refusing to speak with my partner and insisting on communicating only with me, claiming a preference to speak only with the man or husband. This behavior not only exacerbated our displeasure but also marked the poor incident management.
Almost at 2 AM, with our options to resolve the issue on our own or find alternative accommodation exhausted, we concluded that this hotel is absolutely not recommendable. The poor communication and deplorable customer service management by the managers stood out as the most critical points of our stay. For those looking for accommodations in the area, I strongly suggest considering other options.
Read moreThe hotel is nothing as it appears online. It's old, moldy, smells, unsanitary and most likely going to kill someone with their electricity connection in the bathrooms. Our first room had blood on the wall, brown stains on the curtains and walls, rust in the bathroom sink, and shower. Showerhead has never been cleaned, the water is so clogged up, that the water that does come out, is so high pressure you'll hurt your sensitive areas.
Breakfast is minimalistic and store bought. Nothing seems fresh, and the water dispensers have taps that was not cleaned. The water taste as if it's tapped directly from the faucet, and added cucumber....
We got promoted to a suit, and I felt the current of electricity pass my fingers as I turn off the Sauna.
The "Air conditioner" has 2 functions, JET ENGINE or off, so if you want to sleep, you will have to prioritize if in a pool of sweat, or at the Sonic boom of a jet engine.
The elevators seems like they are bound to have someone injured soon, they start and stopp at random, and also sometimes between floors.
The view from the "Presidential suite" is a pigeon gutter, moss and mold paradise.
I would not visit again, and this makes me question visiting...
