I usually stay closer to Leblon in Ipanema, and this was my first time staying in Arpoador. It’s a bit farther from the beach and feels more like a residential neighborhood. We booked a promotional rate, which was a great price, but when we arrived, we found out the room was in a separate section at the back of the hotel—not the basement, but almost. When we opened the sliding door to the tiny balcony, the view was just a cement wall. We were really disappointed and sad. We arrived at night so it gave me a bad taste.||We asked if there was a room available on a higher floor, and they moved us to one on the second floor, same section though. My feeling is: if you're running a promotion to attract new guests and help them discover your hotel, why offer rooms that feel so uninviting? Maybe they should clarify that the promotion is for budget travelers. I’m not sure, but it left me feeling unwelcome.||The lighting in the room was another downside, all cold, white lights. No cozy bedside lamp, just white neon-style lighting throughout. Maybe it was too modern for my taste. I need warmth and comfort at night.||The guests in the room next to us were extremely noisy—screaming, banging on the walls, blasting the TV, and generally acting out of control. We informed the reception, but nothing really changed, so I ended up knocking on their door myself to let them know we were real guests too, just trying to relax. They never answered. The whole situation felt uncomfortable and unsettling. It made me wonder if sometimes, when you stay in a budget hotel, you risk encountering guests who don’t respect the space or others around them.||I had been wanting to try this hotel for a long time because the photos on their website looked great. But the actual experience didn’t match the feeling those images gave. I didn’t stay in a room in the main tower, so maybe those feel different.||On the positive side, breakfast was plentiful and complete, and service was fast and a bit friendly. It’s a large hotel, so there are lots of tourists, it’s not a boutique-style place where you feel a personal connection with the staff. They do offer beach service and give you a slip to find a designated barraca farther south toward Ipanema.||I won’t go back, but I’m still...
Read moreI have stayed in many hotels all around the world and other Best Westerns as well. The customer service here is the worst I experienced. The nonchalant attitudes of staff and lack of concern for the guest is concerning. We were switched out of our rooms 3 times because of issues with the air-condition. In the first room there was a bad leak that leaked all over our bags. After waiting 1 hour for a repair man we were told the issue is not repairable and we moved to a second room after everything was already unpacked. In the second room the A.C. was blowing out hot air (Extremely warm temperatures outside). When we alerted management of the issue they said we weren't using the correct controls and they'd send someone up. When that person finally got to our room they weren't sure what the issue was but said they would come back up within the next hour to see if it started working. After no one came up we reached out again and finally we were moved to a third room with was finally ok. No compensations or even apologies were offered for the inconvenience. About 3 hours of our time and most of our first day was spent dealing with room changes opposed to enjoying the city. Also, when we fist checked in we were told there was an issue with our reservation and that we needed to pay an additional 80 USD for an extra person which was annoying but ok. Then at check out we were told it was nearly 500 USD additional (80/night). The staff was unconcerned about the discrepancy and since with had to catch our flight we just paid and left. All and all I'd say the rooms were okay. They had a bit of a hospital feel, but were pretty comfortable, for the typical price. However, we stayed during carnival which meant I paid nearly 400 USD. This will likely be my last stay at any...
Read moreShockingly bad stay. Do you know that feeling when you have high hopes and you get really disappointed? Welcome to this place. This is actually not in Ipanema, but technically still in Copacabana district. Your walk to the beach is not short. Inside I saw a lot of dust and even flies in the shower.Shower wasn’t hot, yellow color.yikes.Dirty, neglected. Mold, noisy. No clue where to start. Not worth the money. Wifi not working, small rooms big price. With each of these hotels I try here in Rio de Janeiro, I get more and more disappointed. I am come back to the city. There are two big problems in Rio (apart from the ever increasing poverty and highest crime rates ever) .First people do not want to work a lot, there is a huge indifference to anything but eating and staring at cell phones (like the staff were doing permanently at this hotel). Secondly, just because of the name they think Rio de Janeiro has to be expensive. It’s a tourist trap with expensive but dirty hotels. A pity. Within the last weeks I tried a couple of hotels from two stars to 5 stars, believe me that there was not even one satisfactory stay for me. Maybe I am just pampered or I am too discerning, but Rio de Janeiro is not worth the money. Fortunately I don’t need to return anymore after the...
