Read moreThe worst thing about the Fasano Rio de Janeiro is that they ignore you intentionally, on purpose. You would think using $500 for a ONE NIGHT STAY, the property would answer you. Not only do they not answer on purpose, the property tells lies to others about taking care of the guest. Calling you out on this Cristiana Kastrup! Not only is your front desk staff and Mr. Almeida deserves to be replaced, the Fasano Rio needs a REAL General Manager.
Given its high reputation (and the price!), it is disappointing to see they have signage saying that the Fasano is undergoing renovations. Already not worth the money. The Fasano Rio Hotel shows its age and there are several things not working properly or failing to function well. The elevator is slow, I mean really slow. Along with that, the room has many spots that are used and look shabby from wear and tear. For instance, the cabinets in the room do not close well as the hinges are unhinged and the screws were not tight as they were actually very loose. Moreover, the other elevator you have which is a service elevator actually is not easy to find as it is hidden from view despite a sign indicating guests to use it. Even with your signage indicating that there is another elevator, the hallway is not well lighted and the signs could be clearer and bigger. Worst of all, there was cigarettes in one of the bathroom plants.
The service during the stay was not warm and generally indifferent. It took an unnecessarily long time to even be acknowledged (let alone served) at check in. And the butler was not very helpful and he was socially awkward.
For weeks the Fasano has been ignoring me on purpose. It's not 48 hours or a week. They go on months ignoring you! When I get Expedia to talk to Fasano, the property tell them (lies) they offered me a free night future stay. The property isn't even talking to me. For over $500 a night you would think timely communication would happen but you only get that at $50 or $100 hotels. This property can't even bother themselves to care. Even if wanted to accept this made up lie about promising me a complimentary stay (at this point I don't trust lazy liars), how can I use this if the hotel ignores me so much and neglects me as much as they can until they have to tell a lie when others call them out on things!
And yes the General Manager Cristiana Kastrup deserves to be called out: Answer your Emails!!! My God are you lazy and uncaring. It is upsetting to see this entire time you respond to reviews on here and put a fake front that you care, yet you don't even bother to check your email once a month. You really don't reach out and care for guests. You don't bother yourself to care. At all.
I would be happy if Fasano Rio finds a new General Manger. A Real General Manger.
I hope my review convinces people to choose other better places in Rio. Once the Fasano Rio de Janeiro sees that dozens of customers are choosing to go somewhere else because of well deserved bad reviews only then they will have their eyes opened to caring for and treating guests much better especially when that money for a single night can easily be worth 2-3 days at other much...

Now for a quick overview:
Staff
The staff are fantastic, and are a credit to the brand! Really friendly and always ready to help.
Rooms:
Rooms are spotless, a decent size and tastefully decorated. Housekeeping are fantastic! We had two connecting rooms in the corner of the hotel which worked well, as you had a main door which gave you access to two separate rooms. We had courtyard views, which we had booked but we spent all of our time outdoors, so it wasn't an issue for us. If you want amazing views, do not book a courtyard view.
Restaurants:
We sampled the Fasano Cafe for breakfast, which was excellent - something for everyone (and includes an A la carte menu). We also sampled the pool bar which serves tasty and fresh food.
Room service is also fantastic. The service was quick and food arrived hot! A big tick in the box! How many times have you ordered room service for yourself and the children and it arrives luke warm or even cold?!
Gym/Spa:
We didn't visit the spa but the gym is adequate - enough to get a decent workout.
Pool:
There is one rooftop pool with spectacular views. It's well maintained and has a good number of sun loungers. However, it is small (understandably, given its location), so we did spend a lot of time trying to ensure our children did not disturb the other guests. Something to consider if you are travelling with children under 11. You may want to split your stay between two hotels (which is what we have done). Pool staff were attentive and did what was required.
Location:
Hotel Fasano faces Ipanema beach. You can't really ask for a better location! It is also a great location for visiting the main tourist attractions.
Kid friendly:
This is a child friendly hotel but, in my opinion, it is much better suited for adults, couples or families with older children.
Value for money: Fasano is a luxury hotel and, on this occasion, we received the service we were expecting for this price point!
In summary, a fantastic hotel and we would most certainly return!
Thank you...
