Beware of hidden costs
Ask for a glass of wine at your own peril. I did and was offered a local Cabernet Sauvignon which turned out to be a mini bottle, two of which cost more than their most expensive steak, a desert and a bottle of beer.
I was told there was nothing they could do about this as I had ordered them. I toll them that their Waiters need to be trained to bring the wine list to their guests who order wine. Especially as a "glass" of wine cost more than half of a full bottle. 180ml at 45 Real over 750 ml for 70 Real.
Further, when I checked in, I was told that I had booked a room without breakfast. I find that strange as I need to take a breakfast on business travel and always make sure I have breakfast included when I make a booking. I could have made a mistake, but Tryp were generous enough to say that I was welcome to join them for breakfast at an extra cost. An extra cost each day.
When I went to breakfast, I was surprised to find that all guests had to sign in for breakfast. We all have to pay for it as an extra, I guess, let alone what we booked.
I could be mistaken by what I saw but after they sold me an airplane's bottle of wine for more than my main meal cost, I have no trust in this hotel, now. I will be looking for another hotel for the rest of the 8 days I have left in Sao Paolo.
On another note, the rooms are like something from 1980's Marbella-trying-to-be-upmarket. Tired and dated. The toilet would not stop flushing all night. The soundproofing is non existent.
Check in staff were friendly, but they were probably rubbing their hands in glee at yet another mug checking into their cash cow of a hotel. I hope they get a...
Read moreMy wife and I usually stay at this hotel twice a year, over 1 week each stay. We like its location and the overall experience. However, it all went downhill this time, and the stay was very frustrating.|Even though every staff member acted with solicitude and in a caring way, we felt the service and the upkeep downgraded significantly.|When my wife arrived with 2 big pieces of luggage, no help was offered to handle them out of the taxi, which usually happened.|The room initially assigned to us was terrible: an awful sewage smell was coming out of the drain in the bathroom, and the shower box windows were leaking generously with every bath taken.|We had to pack again and change rooms.|The second one didn't show the problems of the previous, but clearly, the wear and tear was there. Dirty windows, and noisy AC, and we could hear when the neighbours were flushing and taking a shower.|To make it even more uncomfortable, we found bugs in the cereal at breakfast.|We understand the multiple variables that play when we stay in a hotel. However this time we felt some relaxation in the standards and the enforcement of the good service, compared to the previous stays. We really hope they improve...
Read moreNice hotel in a very green and safe neighborhood. However definitely not a 4-star hotel. The balcony was not very nice (no chairs or table, not well taken-care of), the pool surroundings also not up kept (used and a bit dirty lying chairs, bit disgusting walls and cheap plastic grass and the gym terrible, with extremely old-fashioned equipment. It's clear the hotel management did not invest at all in refurbishment for many years, although it is desperately needed. The breakfast was not amazing, and the coffee was ridiculously bad. There was only a cheap machine offering something that was definitely NOT coffee. We wanted to order room service, but they were unfortunately not flexible enough to change one of the side dishes - for a more luxurious hotel something that should definitely be offered. All in all a hotel with lots of potential but apparently not overly...
