This is my first time staying at Barcelo as an All Inclusive guest, previously we have stayed privately in the apartments. ||FOOD AND DRINK: Bulgaria is not known for a good offering off all inclusive hotels, despite Barcelo being known as one of the top for all inclusive, it still lacked compared to other countries 5* offerings such as Turkey and Greece. Breakfast was by far the best meal, pancakes fried donuts eggs sausage bacon , omelettes certain days, also the hash browns were incredible. Lunch was the second best, but dinner we struggled finding something we liked half the nights and we are not a fussy party. The food as other reviews stated in all 3 offerings was cold or barely warm. One night we got really bad stomach and nausea from the food. There are two restaurants, but the food is exactly the same in both, Carpe restaurant is simply quieter with nicer decor but in return food is then stale as it’s sat for longer. We got our money worth in the drinks however, slush and milkshakes at the pool bar were a big highlight on a hot day. Fresh coffee not instant in the bars was also a bonus. The cocktails were very generous with alcohol. Overall food a 2.5/5 and most of that goes to breakfast, where the drinks are 5/5.||ROOMS: We paid for a pool view room however we could not see the pool unless we leant right over the balcony as we had an obstructed view, 2nd and 3rd floor some of have obstructed view, despite emailing quite a few times requesting for high floor they gave us 2nd floor, I asked reception as it was late at night they said come back in the morning maybe they will change it but not guaranteed. However we were not in the room much so didn’t bother us that much but that meant I paid extra for pool view for no reason. I will be emailing the hotel directly in an attempt to get a partial refund for this. I am also Barcelo loyalty member and booked direct but priority just had been given to travel agency bookings. Overall it was relatively clean apart from housekeeping didn’t really clean, just made the bed and towels. Separate shower and bath in all rooms welcome. 4/5 room score.||POOL AND ENTERTAINMENT: The pool was freezing some days but some days once your in it wasn’t bad, majority of guests dipped their toes in and refrained. However after visiting the hotel pool for around 4 years it’s no different per month you visit. Hotel claims it is heated however due to large area it is not distributed well. There is one part of the pool is very warm but that’s all where the heaters are. The entertainment was brilliant, credit to animation man for giving us a laugh every day and his games were fun and fulfilling. Night shows were also goods albeit end of season. 5/5.||STAFF: Staff were mostly very friendly, all staff in the restaurants were very friendly and always smiled. Mariya especially deserves a special thank you in the pool bar, her smile was contagious and had good rapport. She is a credit to the industry. On the contrary, Dayana is exceptionally rude, snaps and barks at you when she can’t hear you, and I complained to F and B manager about her who spoke to her. There is also someone who when I reported kettle broken came up and said it’s not my problem call housekeeping, also rude. Staff are a mixed bunch. Thank you also to FO Manager who helped us with room extension as we have a baby. 4/5.||Overall, I would recommend the hotel again as have done most years, but the lunch and dinner alongside staff attitude with some needs improved to get my score to 5....

We had a very enjoyable holiday at this hotel overall. First of all, we would like to thank Menager Todor, who was very helpful and attentive throughout our stay. The animation team was excellent, and especially Gabi was amazing. It was a big plus that there were different activities for children every evening.

The bartender was always friendly and had great communication skills. However, we didn’t really like that the drinks were served from dispensers. The coffee machines also often had issues: sometimes they displayed a “no water” warning, and sometimes they dispensed less coffee than expected.

At the pool bar, the staff member taking orders was not always very cheerful, but our orders still came correctly and without mistakes. In the restaurant, the waiter wearing glasses and the young female staff member working next to him were very friendly and helpful; . The restaurant itself was also impressively clean, which I really appreciated.

We were also very pleased with the reception staff; they were helpful, polite, and answered all of our questions patiently.

The location of the hotel was excellent, being very close to the beach, which was a great advantage. Overall, we were satisfied, but there were a few downsides worth mentioning: breakfast was almost the same every morning, which became a bit repetitive; some of the food seemed dry and felt as if it was from the previous day; and the rooms were not cleaned unless we specifically requested it.

All in all, despite these small shortcomings, we had a pleasant holiday thanks to the staff’s hospitality, the animation team, and the hotel’s location. Hotel looks nice and is much quieter than those that surround it which is great at night. You get little noise from the beach or pubs and bars. Male Pool bar staff are obnoxious, especially to women. Half way through the holiday the halved the glad size of the cocktails then advised my friend to get her husbands permission of she wanted a bigger glass. One in particular would be condescending then talk to the two others in Bulgarian and laugh then turn back to you and continue where he left off. Apartments are dated with loose floor tiles that will take your toes off. Door frames attached back on with white tac. Windows in the bedroom that don't tilt, only swing open with no safety latch and are at thigh height. Being 6 floors up it is an easy fall for adult or child. Safety mesh on the balcony was not attached, hanging on by a thread with the whole Bannister into the wall able to move. Feature pillow cases had red stains (wonder what kind) but when raised as a concern to the rep, like everything else on this list, it was ignored. Being self catering, your fridge and freezer are kind of important to making your holiday enjoyable. Unfortunately the latch on the freezer door was missing. Again this was never fixed meaning anything you put in the freezer would melt/defrost if left for more than a day. Wall sockets were more floating sockets as two in the room had holes in the wall bigger than them, making them able to move around. We had friends in half board which worked out cheaper than us and the rooms were above reception (they have the fancy patterned fascia on the balcony). These are much nicer and have clearly been refurbished as stated by the hotel (no matter what Mira from Jet2 tells you). Reception staff tried to be helpful but their messages appear to fall off deaf ears when it comes to the rest of the team. Our friends had their anniversary whilst we were there. I asked for a bucket with ice as I had my own bottle. Instead the offered a bottle of champagne sent to the room. As predicted, nothing arrived. When highlighted to reception the phoned to have bottle sent straight away so we wait in the room drinking and snacking watching the sun go down. The door goes and we are handed a bucket with ice... No champagne. Suppose it's the thought that counts. All inclusive or not at all for this hotel, especially if you have kids as you'll likely have to go a wander out the hotel with them. You'll also get better rooms, better drinks and food that going by our friends in half board was quite good.

Absolutely loved this hotel. Rooms are very spacious with a good sized balcony to go with it. We arrived late about 2 o'clock in the morning and after not eating since dinner we were pleased to see that a meat and cheese board with some bread and wine was left in the room for us to have a nibble before bed. A great touch. The two buffet restaurants are great, although we definitely preferred the Cape Emine, the food seemed a bit better in my opinion. All the staff were very attentive offering drinks and clearing away plates promptly, even if their English wasn't the best. Pool bar is brilliant. The staff are full of character and always seemed happy and cheerful. Great the the cocktails were included on All Inclusive. The snack selection on the pool bar was OK, we only had a few things from here as the main meals were enough to fill us most of the time. The only negative I have of the whole of the Barceló is the A La Cartè restaurant. This is at the pool bar in the evenings. We were served our starters (mix meat and cheese plater) promptly which was great but less than a minute after clearing away just my plate while my girlfriend was still eating, the main courses were served to both of us. By the time she was finished her starter, her steak was cold. The staff spoke broken English and made it difficult to explain to them. So later I'm the evening we went back to the Cape Emine buffet. The pool areas are very nice and there are plenty of sun loungers to go about (even tho people always seem to leave there towels and steal beds all day for no reason). The gym is basic but has all the equipment that is needed for a good workout. But if you go at 9am it's a little busy. Outwith the hotel there is alot of attractions and things to do with lots of tour companies. Overall the Barceló is a great hotel and I would definitely recommend a visit.
