We are Americans, in our 60’s, traveling the world. We have ‘status’ at IHG hotels (Intercontinental and Crown Royal) as well as Hyatt hotels. So let me preface this by saying we travel a lot and mainly stay at those hotels, so this is another category hotel and is not what those hotels offer. That being said, those hotels aren’t available here and this hotel rated high so we have stayed here about 9 nights (once we leave in a day).

I guess the most notable thing is would we stay here again and the answer is definitely yes. The hotel has a very good vibe. The employees who run the hotel from the doorman to the woman who makes you your omelet in the morning, the waiter who brings your coffee or the front desk staff— every single person will ask you your plan for the day, if you had a good day, what you did, how you slept. They will address you by name and are always smiling. Everyone is always in a good mood and nothing is too much work or they try to do whatever will make you happy.

The grounds of the hotel are quite nice. The pool area (the pool is nice and has steps going down) is private and nice and there is a gazebo that serves drinks or snack. They have a happy hour every afternoon 2 drinks for the price of one. The lobby area is clean with comfortable furniture. You will often be greeted with a cold towel. There is a small elevator (I have a knee injury so I take it) and a gorgeous wood staircase.

Breakfast is included and it’s ‘simple’ as Asian Breakfasts go (maybe compared to what we’ve experienced) but it does the trick. There is an omelet woman who will serve up a great omelet for you or scrambles eggs. There are fresh fruits, we don’t eat bread but there are some bread items, some hot food items and cereals. The coffee bar is great and we usually indulge in cappuccino or latte but they have a variety of coffees.

The location we like. We are directly across from the Angkor National Museum, which we spent 4 hours in on our first day and it really orientates you to the temples (which is probably why you are here). It’s about 25 minute (safe) walk to the old market or Pub street if that’s your jam. We like to walk so frequently go down in the evening for some exercise and to shop. Also, we’ve been traveling for many months throughout the Middle East and Southeast Asia and the best supermarket we have been to is literally right next to this hotel. It’s absolutely massive. I love going to supermarkets all over the world and I’m amazed at how beautiful this one is. Makes it nice and convenient for drinks/ snacks etc.

Okay, let’s talk about the rooms. We have a balcony room overlooking the pool. The room size is medium but adequate. The bed is clean but hard for me. Very hard but maybe that’s me. I have found in many countries the beds are harder than I would prefer. The AC works great and for that I’m grateful because this is a hot country. The toilet works great. The shower… well let’s say it’s not my favorite. There is no hand held device, which is common in Asia. And the water is let’s say— not forceful and vacillates between scalding and barely warm. The shower would be my main complaint but hey it does get the job done.

I rated this 5 star because they are trying and maybe since the big brands aren’t here this is a 5 star here. But we have spent almost 9 nights here and I like it and because of the people— when we return to Siem Reap we will stay again and I hope you...

Check in was good. Manager and staff were very welcoming. The staff member who conducted my orientation explained the temple tours the hotel offered. I told her several times I was not interested but she continued to offer tours until she had explained the last one on the page. Not sure if language or comprehension was the barrier.

Quiet hotel in a very walkable and nice part of town. I've seen mention that the hotel is new but I think it was refurbished.

The hotel feels like it is beginning to wear but it is a decent hotel for the price especially for that location.

My main complaint was the bugs. Within 15 minutes of checking in a roach lay on its back on the floor of my room. I called for maintenancen and the bug was removed. He picked it up with his bare hand which grossed me out.

I called the front desk and requested he wash his hands before returning to my room to spray insecticide. I have no clue if he did or not because one of the young ladies at the front desk spoke limited English. Maintenance returned and sprayed the room and left the can.

There were additional bugs of various kinds but on a much smaller scale than the initial roach.

Cleanliness, overall it was slightly below average but I usually sanitize hotel rooms anyway so I was ok.

Breakfast had good variety and the staff were friendly. The food was average.

The fitness room is small, there are four light weight dumbbells and most of the equipment is old and not working.  The gym is also located by the pool so it is not fully enclosed or air conditioned.

All that said, the hotel is definitely worth it for budget conscious travelers as the staff are helpful and willing to ensure a comfortable stay.

Sunn  recommended Chanrey Tree restaurant and it was the best meal I had in Cambodia in two weeks. That meal alone was worth the minor...

Sala Siem Reap Hotel Location: The hotel is situated in a great location, on the road leading to Angkor Wat (65 minutes walk, 12 minutes Tuk Tuk) in one direction, and the city centre in the opposite direction around 20 minutes walk. On the opposite side of the road is the Angkor National Museum. There are Tuk Tuks parked outside if a walk in the heat isn't desired! You are however within walking distance of many other popular attractions, restaurants, and shop. Remarkably, despite being on the main road out to the temples, it was very quiet. The swimming pool was a welcome sight whenever we returned from the daily explorations! Staff: The staff at the hotel are absolutely wonderful. They are friendly, helpful, and always go the extra mile to make sure that guests have a great stay. I was particularly impressed to be greeted by name by almost all of them across my entire stay, a very nice touch. Overall Experience: I had a wonderful stay at the Sala Siem Reap Hotel. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, the food was delicious, and the staff were excellent. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Siem Reap. Well placed, very reasonably priced, great staff that always made you feel welcome.
