Our evening at Embassy Restaurant in Siem Reap was far more than just a meal—it was an exceptional culinary event that I’ll never forget. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed into something special. We started by ordering a cocktail, which came alongside a delightful selection of traditional Cambodian snacks. This thoughtful touch set the perfect tone for the rest of the evening.
The real magic began when we were invited into the kitchen for the first course. It was such a unique experience to see the talented chefs at work, preparing the dishes with precision and care. This behind-the-scenes look made the evening feel even more personal and immersive. From there, our multi-course tasting menu unfolded beautifully, with each dish presenting a modern twist on Cambodian cuisine. Every course was a work of art, bursting with flavor and creativity. And if we ever felt like we wanted more, the staff kindly offered additional portions—an excellent touch that made sure we were completely satisfied.
But what truly elevated the evening was the outstanding service, which was unlike anything I’ve encountered, even at top-tier restaurants. The team’s attention to detail was remarkable. Whenever we stood up, our napkins were immediately refolded. Fresh cutlery appeared with every course, and the staff opened doors and gently pushed in chairs with perfect timing. They checked in on us in just the right intervals—never too often, but always making sure we were comfortable.
The explanations of each dish were detailed and engaging, helping us appreciate the rich flavors and ingredients even more. The team always maintained a warm, positive attitude, radiating hospitality and care throughout the night. Their professionalism really stood out, especially in comparison to other experiences I’ve had in Asia. Little things like refilling drinks, keeping an eye on our needs without being intrusive, and anticipating what we might want before we even asked made the evening feel seamless and special.
Embassy’s focus on service and quality really made the night for me. Every detail, from the way the staff gently adjusted chairs to the thoughtful explanations of each dish, showed a deep commitment to guest satisfaction. The atmosphere was elegant, but never stiff, with a perfect balance of formality and warmth.
In summary, Embassy Restaurant is more than just a place to eat—it’s a complete experience. The food is phenomenal, the service is exceptional, and the overall experience is truly memorable. Whether you’re a foodie or simply looking for an unforgettable evening in Siem Reap, I cannot recommend Embassy enough. This is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates fine dining with an extra layer of care...
Read moreMy partner and I had one of the best and most memorable meals of our lives in this fine dining restaurant. Words like ‘meal’, ‘dinner’, ‘night out’ all fail to convey what this is: an experience that brings you into the heart of Khmer food and leaves you with so much to consider about what is possible in the balance of flavours in any dish.
Embassy is an all female run and operated restaurant offering contemporary Cambodian cuisine, they have a variety of tasting menus that speak to the innovation and creativity of the Khmer. We are vegetarian so we opted for their vegetarian nine course meal (book ending the meal with elegant cocktails and rice wine). My partner had the Organic Herbal drinks alongside of the meal and was very impressed with them as pairings.
As part of the meal, we started with Khmer street food, before having a course in the kitchen and meeting one of the female chefs. There was then a procession of plates that led me to be disappointed, but only because Cambodian cuisine had been missing all of my life before this point. We have had fine dining all over the world, but for me, Embassy comfortably sits as the most wonderful. My highlights were the steamed tofu; a salad mix involving charcoal grilled eggplant that left me perplexed as to how they had achieved what they had, and a caramelised banana and cashew ice cream (that my partner had twice!).
Our waitress, Vey, guided us through the meal with kindness and detailed understanding of the dishes. She has an effusive nature, and seemed joyed to share Khmer food with us and answer our (many) questions. She was so knowledgable and able to discuss everything from the various dishes and where they are sourced from (all local obviously), to more esoteric questions about how dishes have evolved in the region.
My partner and I are already talking about going back to Cambodia, and when we do, and we will plan it around another visit to Embassy. They achieve exactly what they set out to in their name: being an embassy to bring Cambodian food to the world.
The only sad note is that I know when I am back in Europe that a night will come where I am filled with a longing for these spices and herbs, and the hospitality of Embassy. Nostalgia offers little sustenance, so I am sure I will...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible! This is a restaurant that tries to re-package mediocre cooking in clever ways while overcharging you. First, they make you sit at the entrance where they hand you a drinking menu by stating that you should get a drink to match with the street appetiser. A glass of mediocre Champagne costs over US$20. After that, you are being asked to go to the kitchen to try a dish. Although at first glance this seems interesting, after thinking for a minute, you realise that it’s such an unnecessary experience. The food they serve you so far is below the average restaurant you could dine for a few bucks. Then, they guide you to your main table where each dish is introduced by a kind lady who almost sounds like they are reading from a script. The annoying part is that the lady at the beginning would give a very strong impression that we should keep ordering a new drink or get wine pairing. This is absurd and very cheap. Then, after each meal, they come and ask, how was this dish. When you ask whether anyone said it was bad ever before, they stumble and don’t understand what you are asking.
The dishes are overly done in the sense that each dish combines various ingredients in a way that is unnecessary and deviates from traditional Cambodian cuisine while also not blending in well other cuisine. Totally failure that is overly sold. I was very surprised that the reviews are so high here and we carefully tried to select the restaurants we dine in as we have limited time in lovely Cambodia. This was the worst restaurant we went to, and we covered restaurants that you could dine for a few bucks to a Michelin star type of restaurants. Decoration wise, the restaurant looks very cheap, especially the lights at the entrance.
I would not recommend this restaurant at all! It costed us over US$150 for two people and we only had two drinks in total that costed around $30 in total. Our change was also not brought back, so we were “forced” to leave a tip which we were going to give anyways, but left before they brought the bill book back as it took forever.
