I would strongly advise against staying at the Canalta Hotel in Brooks. The staff were incredibly rude and unprofessional, making the experience extremely unpleasant. They didn’t allow the kids to have any fun or enjoy their time at the hotel, and when we asked for simple accommodations, they were dismissive and unhelpful. For example, the fitness room is restricted to 18+ even when accompanied by a parent, which is just unnecessary.
The rooms were okay, but everything else was a letdown. The staff yelled at the kids, and when there was a hockey tournament, the team was told they couldn't leave their gear in the hotel after they had packed up at 11:00 AM, even though their game wasn’t until 3:00 PM. To make things worse, it was -15°C outside, so they had to leave their equipment out in the freezing cold! When the team tried to explain their situation, the front desk staff didn’t offer any explanation, just a flat-out “no.”
Breakfast was dry and unappetizing, and the pool hours were very restrictive—only open from 9 AM to 10 PM. And don’t even think about bringing water into the pool area; one of the staff members actually told a child they couldn’t hydrate!
Also, they kicked us out of the breakfast area even though we weren’t done eating. Not to mention the food was so dry. I’ve heard others had similar bad experiences here, so I definitely do not recommend this hotel. If you're looking for a better experience, try the Ramada—it’s much more accommodating and friendly. Avoid Canalta Hotel Brooks if you want a stress-free stay. Not trying to be picky here just trying to...
Read moreI got in at 6:00pm after a 9 hour drive. Wonderful young lady at the front informed me they did not have my reservation. I went out to grab my confirmation and came back to wait 25 minutes. Why did I have to wait? Because they'd mixed up two other reservations and had to remedy those as well. I was very upset, I warned the girl who was assisting me I did not wish to discuss anything as I was tired, grumpy and hungry. The manager to her right Heather I believe, was not involved in our situation at all but she felt it completely necessary to interject herself into the conversation and tell me the different ways it might have been my fault. I tried cutting her off and telling her I had no interest in discussing it with her or hearing any sort of justification. She continued talking over me and explaining what were just excuses to ensure she didn't appear at fault. She assumed I had booked that day and continuously made me feel it was my fault. After that I avoided the lobby because she got "offended" by my response and would give me the stink eye. All in all incredibly unprofessional and will be the reason I never stay with you guys again anywhere, her customer service was atrocious and she didn't even seem remotely interesting in helping but she was eager to hinder my stay and excuse her hotels and teams performance. The 2 stars is cause the rooms were great and the young lady working alongside the manager handled the situation...
Read moreI completely agree with this review about Canalta Hotel in Brooks. Our experience was just as frustrating and disappointing. The staff’s lack of professionalism really stood out, especially when it came to accommodating families and young children. It was shocking to see how unhelpful they were when we asked for simple requests, and their attitude made the entire stay uncomfortable.
One thing that really bothered me was the fitness room policy. It’s ridiculous that kids couldn't use it even with a parent present. As a family-friendly hotel, you’d expect them to be more considerate of families, but instead, they made it feel like an inconvenience to have kids around.
The situation with the hockey team was also unacceptable. The team couldn’t store their gear after checkout, which was incredibly inconvenient, especially when the weather was freezing outside. Not only did the front desk staff dismiss the team’s reasonable request, but they didn’t even try to help in any way.
The breakfast was lackluster—very dry and unappealing—and the pool hours were way too limited. It’s ridiculous that they wouldn’t let children bring water into the pool area for hydration. I agree, this hotel just does not have the level of service or quality that families deserve.
If you’re looking for a more pleasant stay, definitely try the Ramada. I’ll be avoiding Canalta Brooks in the future, and I would highly recommend others to...
