From the first night we arrived at the KOA Cavendish location, we were harassed and left feeling unwelcome. Upon registering at the office, we were told to use one key pass between our party of four cars, because it was getting rather late, and we needed to get set up before dark. When we first arrived at the gate, there was no security personal in sight. While we did as asked, using the key card to let our party through, an employee drove up and promptly started yelling at us, stating that what we were doing was wrong, and that we weren't able to do that. While trying to explain our situation, and what the office had told us, we were completely ignored. She just wouldn't listen.
The next day, we had decided to leave the campgrounds. When we returned that night around four o'clock for supper, we came across two camper trailers blocking the entrance to the gate. When we preceded to go around said trailers, one of the security personals began yelling at us once again, telling us 'You can't do that, go to the other gate' - We were not aware of the 'other' gate in the first place. He then made the comment 'What were you going to do, drive through that truck?". Of course, this had made a bit of a scene as many fellow campers became onlookers. This made us feel like a spectral . Once we finally got around the trailer, there was a truck, however it wouldn't have caused any problems for us to access the key reader.
It got to the point that we were beginning to feel targeted for some unknown reason. In order to avoid further conflict , I went to the office and asked for an escort. Although this sounds melodramatic, it felt necessary. If we were causing so much trouble like we were told we were, then we wanted to have someone there to explain the rules we obviously weren't following, and furthermore had no knowledge of. Needless to say, we did not receive that escort in the end.
Once again, we headed out of the Campground. On our way to our campsite, we had stopped several time as children were playing on the road. Now, this is understandable, and of course, giving amount of activity on the road, we drove cautiously. It would seem that the security would have something to say once again. After getting out of our truck, several minutes later, two security came to our campsite. I will now mention that the speed limit is TEN there. After identifying the driver of the truck, he rudely told her to slow down. Now this would be reasonable, except the fact that he was told by his coworker that he had the wrong vehicle, AND the fact that we weren't speeding.
There was a lot of activities available at the camp site for children. Having six children with us, this was defiantly of interest to us and one of the reasons we had picked this campground. However, our children we're not able to enjoy any of this because of all the confusion caused by the security. We had finally decided to spend the least amount of time at the campsite as possible. On the third day we ate our breakfast, got ready and left. We didn't come back for meals that day, which meant buying for a group of fourteen,Tuesday to Thursday. As you can you imagine, this didn't come cheap. The money that we had to waste on food was previously reserved to extend the longevity of our trip.
When I arrived at home, I called the manager to tell them exactly how we were treated and felt, and that even while we brought it to their attention, they did nothing about it. She apologized and said she'd look into the matter, telling us that training was going on at the time And it just so ' Crazy Busy'. For me, I paid 572 dollars that week our site, and another 900 for another two sites. They thought that refunding us fifty dollars per campsite would compensate for our ruined vacation and the inconvenience they had caused us. As far im concerned, I'll never camp there again, even if offered a month of free camping. Thanks for...
Read moreUsed to love this campground, not anymore. We stayed here just a few weeks ago. Couldn't keep power to our trailer as we run a progressive industries voltage regulator and we kept dipping below 104 volts with nothing but the AC on. Even if we shut off everything at the breaker level, we could only get between 110-114. So they have their electrician come down and he does his best but still can't get it to work right. Voltage low on line 2. So we go up and talk to the manager lady who says she can do a refund which was fair to us and I would have happily still endorsed the campground as a great place but in the meantime the owner, Mr. Matthew Jelly comes on down (aggressive and all bent out of shape, enough so that the neighbor who I was also chatting with about having the same problem the past day leaves because he wants none of it) and says they'll do the refund, but I should know its my equipment that's broken. Interesting as I was just at another campground 3 days previous and it worked fine, along with being plugged in at my house. But heah, maybe I'm wrong so I offer up to send him a picture when we land at the next campground to show him (in case he cared if it was his power). At this point he tells me I don't know electricity and he doesn't like how I am speaking to him (ironic as he's the one with his chest pushed out and just asking for a fight), which is interesting considering my wife is an electrical engineer and I studied electronics and computer engineering at College. Meanwhile Mr. Jelly is a Lawyer so not sure they teach a lot of electronics at Law school or his arts degree. Any ways I stayed polite and he was rude, to the point that my 9 year old son says after he leaves that he thought I should have knocked the guy out. So if a 9 year old can recognize rudeness, funny a business owner can't. So Mr. Jelly then goes back up to the office where my wife is getting her refund and then starts raising his voice about how its not their equipment, its me and my equipment to the point that my 12 year old daughter leaves the office in tears. So at 10:00 pm at night we leave and head to Pine Hills Campground. First thing I do is plug into the pole and see what I got. 123 volts holding steady. Throw on AC, still holding 121 volts. Plug in all 3 fridges, turn on all the lights and voila, holding 117 voles, over 20 amps pull. So here's a picture to prove it all. So unless you don't care about your RVs electronics, stay away from...
Read moreYou can tell by their activity sheet that they try really hard to make your stay enjoyable, and for the most part, it was. Our tent site was large and spacious. Although we were rarely at our site or on the grounds, we enjoyed a few things they offered. The candy bar bingo was fun (bring your own as they will charge you 3 times the price of a bar compared to anywhere else). The petting zoo was neat, and the young man who was there was friendly and talked to us about the animals, their names, and had some fun little stories about them. Our adult kids enjoyed the pool but found the water a little on the cool side. The rest of the playground was well maintained from the looks of it. Laundry machines worked great and were $3 per load. Not so great... they ran out of weiners within an hour of their free hot dog roast and didn'tsay that they were getting more until we were about to leave, and our site flooded after a rainstorm (water was up to my ankles) so we had to move our tent to higher ground which, thankfully mid week, was not a problem to get another site. I was surprised to see a $10 charge on my card when I got home. My sil & brother brought us dinner one night, and apparently, they charge for your guests to come in for a couple of hours. They told my brother coming in, he had to leave his car at the front, which meant we needed to drive up and pick them, and the dinner they had brought us and drive them back to our site. Security reasons, which would be fine, but one night as I woke and made my way to the bathroom at 3 am, I spotted two people dressed all in black standing by a vehicle 2 sites away from the bathrooms. It was dark, and I would not have seen them had one not caught my attention by moving slightly behind the vehicle. Needless to say, I message my husband to come meet me and walk with me back to the site. All in all, we enjoyed it, and it was a central location for most of what we wanted to do...
