Deer Lake Motel — Hotel in Deer Lake

My family and I tend to eat there often.. but the last few times we have ordered takeaway from there, they never have it right or the person answering the phone for example august 3rd at 630pm whoever was taking takeout orders should not be taking orders. The way of speaking she seemed like she didn’t know any thing her voice and speaking seemed so confusing. I wanted a roast turkey dinner and a small poutine, I asked for just carrots in the side vegetables with the roast turkey she said they couldn’t do that she asked the person telling her was loud and rude in the background and then she said we can’t do that which is unfortunate my children love their carrots but can’t eat corn. So that was unfortunate, she said you can have coleslaw I agreed. Then I asked for just orange shredded cheese on poutine she asked again and the person in the background responded with no and she continued with saying to me ok is that it I said ok I just heard in the background they can’t do just orange cheese she said yes like I had to give her the answers she should be telling me …. Almost as if she forgot in those seconds to tell me. She said it’s mix cheese. I said ok… then she said that’ll be 5-10 mins I said ok thank you. I showed up then the waitress at the front desk of the restaurant I told her I had a order she said you had fries with your roast dinner I said no so the lady on the phone put in fries for the roast dinner . So with my former complaint she should not be taking orders.. so the lady with the tattoos on her arms and long dark pony tail was really sensible and handled it well and understanding cause she went in and changed it then she came out she said that’ll be 20 mins I said what?? The lady on phone said it’ll be 5 mins she said what in a shocked way 5 mins!!! Then she went in again.. the lady who is in there taking orders needs a break lol or should not be taking orders. I came out checked my order I have two small scoops of mash and small hand full of dressing and turkey combined.. no coleslaw haha. The portion was so sad! I really hope our next time...

Nice and modern motel with comfy beds and accessible laundry service. When we rolled in at 7pm, we had lots of laundry to take care of and although the laundry room closes at 9pm, the front desk lady that evening let us finish it up, especially since we are travelling with a 2 year old.

On the other hand, the morning front desk staff were not very helpful... the ice machine was broken so ice had to come from the restaurant or bar, and since the waitresses were running their butts off with a tour bus and a full restaurant, my mom asked one of the two ladies sitting behind front desk if they could get some ice for her. They were not doing anything at the moment other than gossiping, and one of them rudely told my mom to get it from the waitress. Both my mom and I had worked in customer service for years, and know what good hospitality should be, and these ladies sure did not put any effort in to demonstrate that.

We stayed at the Deer Lake Motel for 2 nights during our NL trip and it was excellent. Room was clean and comfortable, and staff was very friendly and helpful. The front desk staff was very accomodating when we arrived before the earliest check-in and moved us into an available room so we could drop off our bags. The food at the restaurant was delicious - I really enjoyed the turkey vegetable soup I had one day for lunch and their pan-fried cod was wonderful. The hotel offers a free breakfast for guests staying in their hotel - scrambled eggs, toast, homefries, and choice of sausages or fried ham. I think you can order a different breakfast if you don't want the free one (that would have a cost), but we always took the free one.||Motel is conveniently located just off the Trans-Canada, which makes it very easy to get on the road to explore. ||There is no elevator in the motel, so if you have any issues with mobility, you may wish to request a...
