Don’t get me wrong this is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in quality wise, however it is by far the most interesting. The first thing you’ll notice when you enter the hotel is the odd décor, the carpet is old and covered in dark red stains. The main lobby is adorned with short river rock walls that lead to a large centrepiece. The centrepiece itself seems like it should be some kind of water feature but it has long been dry filled with mulch and an assortment of fake and real plants. Along with the decor you will also notice the strange assortment of smells, the lobby had a slight smell of rotten eggs or propane. if you follows the smell to where it was at its strongest the staff had set up fans, for whatever reason where pointing in a way where they would blow the smell back into the lobby instead of out the doors that where behind them. As for the rest of the hotel (when you weren’t catching short whiffs of the aforementioned rotten eggs) had the distinct musky smell of mold and rot. After we checked in we made our way to the elevators and I overheard some other guests talking about how the elevators were prone to breaking and during their stay two of the three elevators had broken down in one way or another. Every time we used the elevators I felt like it was either about to get stuck or drop completely by the screeching noise the cables made. When we finally got to our room it was filthy, strange stains and cigarette burns adorned the carpet. we found garbage from previous guests in places that would have been easily found if any attempt at vacuuming had been made. Lucky our sheets seemed to be clean and unlike some other reviewers we didn’t see any bedbugs. The rest of the room however had a similar level of cleanliness to the carpet. This didn’t bother us too much however as we were just in town for a concert and weren’t planning on staying in the room for long. On our way out however we noticed a strange dark hallway that had an abandoned fitness room and old furniture. At the end of the hallway was two doors one of which was obscured by a large pillar. This was so eerie feeling that we decided to explore the hotel more once we got back. Our room was in the north tower which for the most part had the look of a regular albeit run down hotel. with a couple of the floors decommissioned or “out of order” from what the signs said. From what we where able to see was in a state of complete disrepair. The east tower was possibly a little nicer but not by much. There was some rotten looking food in the hallway on one of the floors and of course the gross carpet . The best part though was the west tower, it seemed to be abandoned. as soon as you exit the elevator your hit with an extreme humid heat and the walls and ceiling are falling apart. At the top floor there was a cutout in the ceiling that was leaking water into a garage bin that was about half full. Throughout all the hallways of the hotel there were also seemingly useless alcoves randomly placed throughout the building. The best part however was the second floor of the west tower, it brings you to a balcony overlooking the hotel lobby with a gate that blocks access to a panel. There is then a narrow hallway illuminated only with the red glow of exit signs that point to a dead end, where I don’t even think there’s any stairs. This isn’t even all of it at one point I got separated from my friends and they found a door with a torn police report on it and scratching coming from the other side. Overall it gave the feeling we were walking through hallways outside of reality. Plus the tv was pretty nice so I’d recommend staying for a night or two if you’re looking for an interesting...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel this past weekend and I have to say i’m quite disappointed and dissatisfied with this hotel. It may have been one of my worst hotels stays yet, which is super unfortunate. Upon arrival we were waiting in the lounge area by the doors while we waited for our friend whose name it was under to also arrive at the hotel. The lobby area was nice and the lounge area was nice however it heavily smelled like rotten eggs, similar to what an gas leak smells like, it was pungent and strong and it really was the only thing I could smell everytime I walked by the check in desk and the lobby to leave the hotel. Just slightly concerning to be smelling rotten eggs in a hotel or any establishment, plus it was just truly super unpleasant. After our friend arrived at the hotel we walked to the check in desk to pay for our room and check in, we were told she cannot use her credit card she provided as the hotel is “not allowed” to take it even though she’s used it at this hotel and multiple other hotels but then she was also not allowed to use her debit card as she is a resident of edmonton. We were scrambling at the desk trying to figure out what we could do, and the lady kept going back and fourth how she’ll just take the card, and take her debit card and then saying she couldn’t again. Then we were told if one of us wanted to pay with our debit card it would be a $250 damage deposit hold instead of the $100 it would be on a credit card. At this point it’s been 20 or so minutes of all of us being extremely confused, as none of us had ever heard any of these rules which just added to the complications and confusion making check in excruciatingly difficult. At this point we’ve stepped aside to figure out our payment options as a line was accumulating behind us. Once we go back up to the check in counter she said that she’s upgrading us to a suite for free which we thought was quite nice. We proceeded to put damage deposit hold on one debit card and paid with another, and finally were able to check in and go up to our room. Once getting into our room there were several things we noticed that were wrong, it smelled heavily like cigarette smoke, the couch was discoloured a dark and brown colour as of natural wear and tear, there was multiple dents and holes in the walls, splatter on multiple surfaces of the walls. One that was so dark I honestly thought it was blood until all of us were surrounding it trying to figure out what it was, it was musty, dirty the beds felt hard and lumpy. The room itself overall felt musty, grungy and did not feel like there was any overall cleanliness in the hotel room at all. It was not properly cleaned beforehand by any means. Lots of missed spots high up on ceilings in the bedroom etc. Everything was sticky and grungy and it really was a gross hotel room. To make this even worse we got back from an event early saturday morning and noticed the entire back of the toilet and the floor below was soaking wet, we thought maybe it was the shower so we just dried up behind the toilet and surrounding areas on the floor. I woke up around 11am Sunday morning and walked into the bathroom and noticed that a piece of our roof had collapsed. We immediately called the front desk and explained what happened, and maintenance came up looked at it and said that it was an issue from a room above us and they knew about it. So now it seems as if we were upgraded because no one else wanted to be in this room due to the damage and dirtiness. It was one of the dirtiest rooms i’ve seen, i mean i didn’t even feel clean in there...
Read moreIn a nutshell shell: Very run down place. Both Rooms were Pretty dirty too. No AC in either of the rooms we were put in - only radiant cooling that can’t keep up with temps above +25. Poor customer service. Dirty & run down rooms.
I have a medical condition where my body can’t regulate temperature properly, so it’s important to have proper room amenities listed, which this property does not. It was quite hot this week so sleep was impossible, and I found myself at medical risk.
The first room we were put in was dismal at best - room temp wasn’t below +25 and that was WITH the AC going full blast before we even got in there. Front desk said to ‘reset’ the radiant cooling system, which made zero sense to me as it’s just cold water moving through the pipes, with a a fan blowing. He said it froze. These systems don’t freeze. You need freezon to make water freeze. Gaslighting central on that one. I didn’t appreciate that at all.
Front desk gentleman was very unhelpful when I came back down to let him know the ‘reset’ didn’t work. There was A LOT more ‘mansplaining’ he tried to do, but I won’t get into all of that malarkey. Just know, He’s quite condescending.
At one point, He asked me ‘well what do you want me to do about it?!’. I would have liked him to offer me a solution, as is his job. But instead I had to fight for one. We were moved to the smoking section. This was after the front desk man said our eyes would peel over there and made it sound like it was hell - he seemed to want me to go into medical crises, even after I told him about my medical stuff - yet he didn’t stop the drama llama stuff until I called him out on his attitude & behavior. I shouldn’t have had to do that.
The second room was cooler but not by much. I had to go buy fans and move the mattress to the floor, then put the fans on the radiant heater to blow the cool air down on me… ridiculous.
There was bodily fluids (probably spit???) on the walls. Bugs in the sheets. Water damage. Some kind of splatter on a wall. Hair in the sink. Etc.
I sent an email after front desk said that’s how I had to deal with this because I booked via expedia (booking issues there too). At check out I was heartily assured the manager would be made aware and I’d get a phone call yesterday. I’ve heard nothing as of today.
This ‘Inn’ is more like a dirty motel with poor customer service. Not as advertised. I do not recommend anyone staying here.
The restaurant is Amazing tho. No reservation required to...
