The culinary journey commenced with an assortment of dishes, each portraying the quintessential tastes of traditional Vietnamese cuisine. However, despite the flavors being reminiscent of the familiar pho essence, the execution faced hurdles. The soup, unfortunately, arrived lukewarm at best, lacking the customary steaming allure that characterizes this comforting dish. Moreover, the noodles, while infused with commendable flavors, suffered from an overcooked texture, diminishing the intended satisfaction.
Among the ordered dishes, the shrimp salad rolls were commendable, delivering a satisfactory presentation and offering a glimpse of the culinary artistry within. The Vietnamese coffee, a beloved beverage, met expectations, contributing a delightful note to the meal.
The service encountered during this visit leaned towards laissez-faire, lacking the attentiveness that often enhances the dining experience. Similarly, the ambiance adhered to the expectations of a mid-tier Vietnamese restaurant, presenting nothing beyond the anticipated modesty, devoid of any distinctive charm or extravagance.
While the flavors reminisced about the usual pho experience, the lack of precision in execution detracted from the overall enjoyment. The presentation and the coffee met expectations, adding a touch of satisfaction to an otherwise middling encounter.
For those seeking an uncomplicated Vietnamese dining affair with flavors that echo tradition, this eatery may suffice. However, those expecting precision and an elevated dining experience might find themselves...
Read morePho Hoan Pasteur has always been my go-to restaurant when I have a pho or pho satay craving.
However, it is disheartening to see some changes are made to cut costs at the expense of the general customer experience. Before, their extra large, large, and regular bowls were indeed those sizes. Nowadays, their 'large' is pretty much the same size as their 'regular' bowl. If you compare their now 'large and regular' bowls side by side, it is very hard to tell which is which.
For Vietnamese coffee, traditionally, it would be served with the ground coffee beans and boiling hot water in the dripper, with condensed milk in the glass. After all the coffee has left the dripper, the drink would then be transferred to another glass filled with ice. Nowadays, they serve the 'pre-dripped' coffee in the glass containing the condensed milk. This drink is already lukewarm/cool when given out. Further, they now serve the drink that is already in the glass containing the ice. Coffee beans that are left sitting have a distinctly unpleasant bitter taste, and both of these practices result in a very subpar drink.
Overall, the taste of the pho dishes are still very good here. It is just disappointing that prices have gone up while portion sizes have gone down, along with their current practice of 'efficiently' making...
Read moreMy wife and i have been going to this restaurant for years and ordered the same thing. No.15(special beef pho) and onion cake. Lately,we’ve noticed that the food quality has been declining..they forgot the meatballs in my soup and i had to remind them about out onion cake, the portions were also smaller.Anyway,we decided go give it another chance. Same thing they forgot to put meatballs in my beef pho. Also the onion cake was just sitting in oil. This time,i asked our server that they forgot my meatballs and also my issue with the onion cake. She looked at me all confused and walked out on me. I then realized that she probably did not understand what i was saying since another server came and asked me what the problem was. She then proceeded to tell me that they never put meatballs in their special beef pho. So i informed her that we’ve been dining here for years and for sure the soup has meatballs. She just said that i can request for meatballs for additional cost. She also did not change our onion cakes. Its still sitting there in oil. My wife and I decided to bring out business somewhere else. There should be a better Vietnamese restaurant in the city that is...
