If you are travelling with a family, this is the only review you'll need to read!
We travelled ( family of 6 ) including an infant to the hotel. We were planning to go to Niagara Falls and do some other things around the city and we were looking for a convenient place to stay. First of all the room is much bigger than I expected. On the pictures (From Hotels com or the hotel website) the room did look on the small size but I was pleasantly surprised. There's the living room with a pull-out couch and with a family of 4 kids my pull-out game is not that strong but that's not the topic here! You have a sink, and a microwave but no utensils (-0.25 points for that) The bathroom is small not going to lie, so if you are the type to flex while you step out of the shower to look at your gains, you might have a bit of trouble but it's still got the job done! I love the fact that you can close the door between the living room and the bedroom so if you have young kids it's a great plus...they can do their nap and you can do whatever (almost) on the otherwise. For the breakfast, they have a menu that is not exhaustive HOWEVER...the same people that complain about the breakfast eat toast with butter and coffee when they are at home... It's not Gordon Ramsay but it's not Chef Boyardee...you get the choice of breakfast bowl...or breakfast sandwich which is the breakfast bowl slapped between two pieces of bread or English muffin if you feel a bit more classy. They have options for kids as well but sidenote...3 eggs for a kid might be too much. You write your room info and the pickup time and they call you the next morning to pick it up. We stayed for 2 nights, it would have been good to know that there were no housekeeping services during our stay,...so -0.25 points. there are two Tv
Read moreThere were four people in front of me when I checked in and only one person working the desk, a second person finally arrived after about a 7 minute wait (the first-in-line was still not checked-in). The lobby is in the midst of renovations and it looks like they have a long way to go.
Finally my turn, I was recognized as a Priority Club Platinum member and upgraded to a suite, given bottled water, a small box of Lindors chocolate, a free bar drink coupon, and a coupon for 10% off at the restaurant.
The room (407) was newly redecorated, clean, nice furnishings, fridge, microwave, and quite well laid out. Unusual wallpaper though, grey imitation leather stitched into squares, I have never seen anything like it before. The bathroom had also been remodeled and quite nice, however, the new toilet must have been longer that the old one, it stuck out so far from the back wall that the door would not open past it. It looks like they used a reciprocating saw to cut a notch in the door so it would open all the way, even doing this was not enough, the door still rubbed against the toilet when opened. They tried to slap a coat of paint where the cut was but it didn’t cover all the bare wood. I would have thought that with all the expense the hotel is going through the designer and/or contractor would come up with a better solution. Also, the emergency exit sign was for room 419 not 407, how many others are in the wrong room.
The restaurant is now housed in a meeting room, very stark and boring with a TV at one end, no imagination at all; plants, pictures, anything would help. However for dinner the food and service were very good, steak was cooked as ordered (blue), pork was juicy, hamburger huge and fresh, and all side dishes very good. The breakfast buffet was unexceptional, scrambled eggs were dry, potato patty undercooked, it was not as good as a Holiday Inn Express FREE breakfast.
The pool was small but enough for a swim and the hot tub was very nice. I did not use the exercise room but it did not look like there was a lot there, but adequate though.
The stars of the hotel are the people, everyone I met in the 3 days were very friendly and helpful. I’m sure that once the renovations are completed customers will have a much...
Read moreI got the IHG credit card specifically to rack up points by using it for groceries and day care expenses that I have anyway. Having the card automatically makes you a platinum member. So as a platinum member, when I arrived, I was automatically offered a free upgrade to a king suite. This was a very nice and unexpected surprise. The king suite consisted of two rooms, one with the king bed and one with a sitting area including a couch with a queen size roll out bed. I was traveling with my five year old son so the roll out bed was perfect for him and I could close the doors between the rooms so that I could work on my computer while he slept. The room was very clean. The bathroom was nice and big. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel was quiet. My son loved the pool and the whirlpool. We ate breakfast there most mornings. They have a breakfast menu to order from in addition to a small buffet. The buffet had the basics; eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and a waffle maker. My only complaint was that it wasn't always well stocked but the staff were very helpful and friendly. If something was missing from the buffet they would have it cooked fresh and brought straight to the table. I liked the location especially. It's an easy 40 minute drive, depending on traffic, to downtown Toronto. It's also close to the Kelso recreation area and other places I was visiting. So it is outside of downtown Toronto but very central to many other places. The area is safe. There are lots of nearby outdoor shopping malls to pick up whatever you may need. There are plenty of restaurants around. I stayed five nights there with my son while closing up my parents home. I will definitely be staying...
