I was quite pleased to find out there was a Porta Via close to my house. The Markham location is near my work and I very much enjoy visiting them.
Unfortunately my experience at this location was much different than I have experienced in Markham. They only had 2 types of bread available (calabrese white/whole wheat) instead of the half dozen that I am use to selecting from. When I enquired about the lack of Focaccia, the young lady taking my order replied in a fashion that both answered my question and also conveyed her lack of interest in my question. At this point I started paying attention to the steps for adding ingredients to my sandwich. Unlike the Markham location, she did not put any greens on the sandwich, or any fresh ground pepper. Also the banana peppers were not grilled as well as they normally are (in Markham). I am not sure at this point if this is how they do it at this location, or just this staff member.
Was the sandwich good? Yes, far better than their competition, but still pale in comparison to what I have experienced at the Markham location. I plan on going back to this location to see if this was just a one off mis-step.
Update: I now frequent this location more often. They now put arugula and pepper on the sandwiches and the banana peppers are grilled more. Much better than my first experiences. They also have all the different bread selections now. I am increasing my rating as a result. The location in Markham uses a in house made lemon dressing, and that is the only thing remaining that I wish they...
Read moreI’m pretty upset with my experience here. First of all the spinach does not look like it was washed. For a $20 salad I had little to no pico de gallo.
But above all, this is a very poorly run business. I waited over 45 minutes for my salad. I waited half an hour in line, only to be asked to wait an additional 10 minutes for the salmon to warm up, but of course that took long too and I ended up waiting more than 10 minutes. It took so long the lady at the front forgot I was there earlier and asked me what I was waiting for…
There were other folks there with mobile pick ups who went to the cashier and ask for their order but were told it was not ready yet. Mind you it was at least 10 minutes after the scheduled pick up time. This place is a disorganized mess.
Sure some of the toppings (aside from the unwashed kale salad) tasted nice, but I can’t afford to spend almost an hour waiting for a salad. This...
Read moreI ordered a veggie panini and tomato soup to take out. The taste was fine but was very very disappointed with the serving. I understand things are expensive and they have increased their pricing already, why cheap out then? The slice of goats cheese in the sandwich is a mockery on cheese, the portion is not even equivalent to a slice of cheese, maybe 2 dots total. If you have increased price then serve as you did before or you should have priced better. This has been my go to spot for a really long time even before the pandemic but am not happy with it anymore. It’s a good lunch option but veggies do not cost as much for them to cheap out in the cheese portion which is an integral part as far as the taste goes on the veggies sandwich. On a positive note, it has maintained hygiene and more or less the taste. The servers are very nice and one thing that has...
