My wife and I stayed here a week or so ago on a Sat night. I don't often write reviews, but figured I had to help plug this place however I could after the experience. We were overall very impressed. It looks to me like they put a solid effort into running the place. We've stayed at the spa many times and the lack of maintenance and just general uncleanliness the last time around had us looking for something new. If you're staying in Moose Jaw and looking for a quiet get away (leave the kids at home), you can't beat this place.
Pros: Couldn't find a hair in our room. And I looked hard! Probably the first time I've ever come up empty, including at many LasVegas strip mega resorts. Cleaning team is phenomenal in and out of the rooms. We left them a $20 tip which is my largest cleaning tip ever. I'm generally pretty frugal and only tip when warranted. Great job whomever you are! Front desk staff were all pleasant, helpful, and available. Price was pretty reasonable at $189 all in for a King bed. Restaurant had good food overall - only one minor observation noted below. You can tell that they put effort into the food, service, and decor in it which is getting to be a rarity these days with deep fryers and pre-prepped foods being thrown on the grill in most places. For $30-$40 a plate, compared to a typical restaurant night out for the two of us, the price wasn't all that expensive. Was nice to sit in the unique and fancy decor and experience something different. We took the Prairie Bee Meadery history tour for $135 (which gives you $100 in the restaurant so it's really only $35 for a lot of mead samples and an interesting couple hours of absorbing prohibition facts). Ended up buying some bottles of mead which I know are going to be fantastic when we crack them open. The decor inside the entire hotel is just cool. I enjoy learning about history and didn't know much about this place. Was really happy to see that someone saved it from the wrecking ball. Thank you to who all was involved! Everything we usually do is within a block - the park, the casino, the spa pool. It was really quiet and peaceful in the entire place - room, lobby, restaurant, meadery tour.
Cons: First off, we'll be back to Grant Hall, so none of these are show stoppers by any means... The front entrance has some pictures on the wall that tell the story of the hotel's history. Very neat. But IMO they weren't done very well. Some of the pictures clearly don't line up with the historical period being described below them. Just seemed weird to be talking about the 1950s and have a picture from the 1980s above it, for example. I ordered the ribs for supper. I don't think the membrane was removed before cooking which makes for a very messy eating experience and just more fat than I care for. I'd try something else next time. Everything else I had on the side was wonderful though. My wife had the chicken and it was delicious. We also had a calimari starter. Would have been great to have a mix of the rings and the full mini octopus. I couldn't figure out how to operate the TV had to call for help. But, the lady said they're working on simplifying the system down to one remote so improvement on the way. I don't think a company could make a more complex remote than SaskTel - then factor in you need another one to control other aspects of the TV. None the less, got it figured out in short order.
So, overall, we'll be back to the Grant Hall. I've never seen any advertising for your facility and think it would be money well spent to do a campaign in Regina. I know lots of people just want a night away, without a long drive, to go hang out. Maybe offer a package where you include 2 pool passes or something at the spa or partner with the casino to offer some free play as part of a special rate.
Anyways, keep taking good care...
Read moreI am very dissatisfied in my visit to The Grant. We were greeted by friendly front desk staff, and a beautiful entry way to the hotel; we were excited for our stay!
We were then informed the main elevator was not to be used, so we were directed through the dining hall, disturbing guests as they were eating. Serving staff stared, and we felt very out of place. The elevator we were directed to use was in the back of a dark hallway, with laundry/utilities and kitchen only four feet away. Kitchen staff swore and were not pleasant to pass by as the main travel path through the hotel.
We arrived at our room and we were shocked. It was not at all what was shown in advertising photos online, the layout of the room was uncomfortable to get around, the doors to the closets were difficult to open and close, like they were broken. Instead of cozy carpet and beautiful furnishings, we got sticky (waxy?) noisy plastic floors, tar yellow walls, tacky window coverings, and plastic-like bed linens. I wish I had taken photos.
The gentlemen at the front desk was very courteous and helpful. He offered to show us other rooms and we happily accepted. First room he showed us had three beds adjoined suite, with another strange layout, more plastic sticky floors. The same linens. Same disappointing bathroom.
Second room was a suite instead guest, and it was much more comfortable and we were happier with it. However, we were to pay double the amount of the first two. Tired from our travels, we made the quick decision to pick the first shown room. After standing in the room for about fifteen minutes, we were uncomfortable and I felt like I was in an institution for illness rather than a luxury hotel stay.
We decided to bring our things out and I approached the desk and apologized, we had decided to stay elsewhere more comfortable. He again was very kind and understanding, and we inquired about cancellation fees. He couldn't give a firm answer, be replied he would discuss with his supervisor. We were under the impression it would be a $50 charge. There was no indication it would be anything else.
I recieved a phone call from his supervisor the next day. I was then informed that we would be charged the full night stay, due to it being outside of their 24 hour cancellation policy. After I expressed my disappointment, she apologized for our experience and hoped we would return in the future.
Overall, the photos listed online are very misleading. Hopefully this review will bring clarity to other guests looking to book here. We did not stay, and yet we are still disappointed we even stepped...
Read moreOn March 10th, 2025 we checked into the Grant Hotel for my birthday. We went to our room and it smelled very musty and dirty - old carpet that has never been changed or cleaned, the 2nd room was no better and finally the last room was okay - no carpet and didn’t smell like the other 2 rooms. The heat or furnace fan didn’t work so there was no air circulation so we asked for a stand alone fan which was provided but was so noisy a person couldn’t sleep with it on. The bed in this room was sunken in the middle so that your legs went up and head down not comfortable but we didn’t say anything just made the best of it. On Wednesday, March 12 we checked out of the hotel not thinking that I would need to pull out all my clothes first to check bags for cockroaches but needless to say when we got home and I was taken my clothes out of my bag there was a dead cockroach and black long hair (which is not my hair cause I am blonde) on the bottom of my bag. I was absolutely sickened to see this and had my husband and others checked this out only to confirm my worst fears yes that is a cockroach! After my husband got rid of the cockroach I bleached everything and put all our bags outside. One does not know where these cockroaches lay egss so you have to take all the necessary precautions to protect yourself and belongings! I called the hotel right away on Wednesday and spoke to Marize about our situation which she didn’t take seriously at all but did tell me that they have pest control at the hotel every week and I said every week then you do have a big problem but are not letting the public know. She asked me what I would like her to do and I said why are you asking me don’t you know what the right thing is to do being your a supervisior/manager? I am not a person looking for a free stay or anything of that nature but she was trying to turn the tables on me that I brought the cockroach into the hotel! Why would I do that and furthmore that is so disturbing and unprofessional of her to accuse me of doing such a thing because she knows nothing about me. The big boss was supposed to call me on Friday March 14th and of course he never did. I call again on Sunday, March 17th only for Marize to downplay the whole situation and I asked for the manager to call me by noon March 17th which never happened. I will be contacting Sask Health about them and I will get a full report on this hotel as well of any findings becuase it is not normal to have pest control at your hotel if you do not...
