We REALLY wanted to love this place. After reading some recent bad reviews & holding onto our optimism because we travel a lot & know sometimes reviews aren't fully encompassing, we’re not sure we’d stay here again.
Unfortunately, we were met with constant, poor customer service from the older employees from the literal time we rolled up to the gate. Yes, we did arrive after their “strongly recommended” 5p check in, as we drove from the US & of course encountered some time delays. We didn’t stress about it since there was still a late check in option. We pulled up to turn into the campground at 5:32p & were told “NO! We have a haunted house going on! You’ll have to get your stuff tomorrow!”….Neat. Now we’ve made it to Canada, paid for a spot for the night (the next 8 nights…) & can’t get in to sleep?!! Finally we were shuffled to the “back gate” that’s there to make you feel more secure—and it DOES, assuming it’s closed & locked up—but we’ll get back to this.
We did go to check in the next morning & the young lady was very kind, thankfully.
We purposely chose a spot along the back of the campground, knowing we have 2 active dogs, wanting to give them room for walking & relaxing. Some reviews said the sounds of the factory behind that row were bothersome, we didn’t feel that & DID actually REALLY love our spot. Yes, the factory is just behind the tree line but it wasn’t an issue for us. So I will say the spot was nice, it was convenient to the bathhouses that were pretty clean, & the spots seem to be taken care of. I DO want to give credit where credit is due. The other plus side to staying here is it’s not directly across from strip clubs like the KOA & Scott’s.
All of that being said, there was NO information that a haunted house would be happening on the premise of the campground while we were there (or really at all), in turn affecting our USE of the campground we paid to stay at for 8 nights & this was going on 4 of them. We saw nothing on the website, there was mention in a confirmation email that the gate would be closed from 5p-midnight Fri-Sun, we were only told upon arriving (when we weren’t allowed in the main gate) it would be happening every Friday-Sunday night. That also meant the back gate (previously mentioned for safety) would be left open for people staying at the campground to get in/out...which ALSO meant other traffic was constantly flying in/out looking for the haunted house. Honestly, our last straw with this damn haunted house thing was parking our car at the front yesterday for convenience, only to realize as we’re on the bus heading into town that it was Friday. I decided I should call the office to make sure our truck would be ok since we wouldn’t be back prior to the haunted house starting at 5p. Again, it wasn’t this sweet young lady’s fault, but she let me know she spoke with the owner of the haunted house, since it is a COMPLETELY different owner & it’s just taking place INSIDE of the campground…& he told her to let us know our truck would be TOWED if we weren’t back by 5p to get it as he’s already sold those spaces for VIP parking!! So we had to get off the bus, catch a bus back, move our truck, & pay for an Uber to get where we needed to go in order to be there in time.
Be warned: if you’re planning on staying there from September 1- November 1, this WILL be going on, you WON’T be told details, & it WILL affect your use of the campground you paid to stay at (the laundry, or anything on the other side of the gate in the middle they close off for HH) & they won’t even be nice about it. You will also hear the screaming & noise, especially if you’re anywhere near the front, again, we were really in the back & could still hear a lot of it. The noise from the haunted house was more annoying than any noise coming from the road in the front or the factory in the back. They care more about the haunted house than they do the campground, which is extremely...
Read moreThe worst experience I have ever had with a campsite.....We went there to book a site for a pop up trailer for a month and a tenting site for 2 weeks. Was told the manager had to do the booking (who was not in at that time but would be in the following day at 9:30) cause the system does not allow for month stays with the current employee...I was given access to pick a lot we wanted (employee provided us with sites that were available) so we picked the lot and left and came back then next day at 9:30 the following morning only to be told that the manager was not in that day cause it was her birthday therefore had the day off as well was told the lot that we had picked out was not a lot that they offer for trailers. So we picked another lot and left. We came back the 3rd day and spoke with the manager who stated we could not book a tenting site for 2 weeks as they only allow tenting for a maximum for 1 week due to the tent that long will kill the grass. We had asked at that point if we could move to another tenting site after the first week and was told we could not do that. I then asked if we were to leave for 24 hours and then come book a tenting site for a week. The manager reconfirmed that we would not be on the campground for the full 24 hours. We agreed. The employee then questioned us in regards to how expensive that was going to cost us. We then said we know and was fine with the price. It seemed at this point she was going to book the sites until during the conversation it came up that our trailer does not have a bathroom. The manager then stated they were not able to book any site for us as a trailer with a working bathroom is a requirement stating they were not a good fit for us. When I was asking questions trying to understand why she then stated she was felt intimidated by us. I was then even more confused cause I was not swearing or yelling just simply asking questions to why did it matter weather we used a washroom in our trailer or the washroom that is provided by the campground....Or......if a tenting site is available why we could not move to another tenting site...What was the difference if it was us or another family who was going to book the...
Read moreThe staff was super friendly and helpful and my kids loved it (ages 5 and 7). I was a bit less enthused, but its still a great value for the proximity to the falls, and overall we really enjoyed ourselves. Kind of a quintessential family campground.
To Note: --There's hardly any trees/privacy. Lots are on the smaller side and only one bathhouse (which is closed 1/2 hour in the middle of the day for cleaning). --We were there on a holiday weekend, and it was PACKED, with no quiet hours observed. All fine, we're on vacation too, but stood out to me. Everyone cleared out Monday morning and it was much quieter. (As a tourist from the states, it appeared there were a lot of 'locals' and there's seasonal people.) --There are lots of little amenities for the kids (playgrounds, splash pad, jumping pillow, mini golf ($5), and a pool) all a little bit worn down, typical for the age/type of place. But all good, We enjoyed all of it! --Free WiFi by the barn! --The electric at my site was broken, they gave me a long extension cord for the night and promptly fixed it in the morning. Someone had fried it, probably trying to plug in an appliance or something. --My scanner to get in the gate didn't work, pressed the button the first time since I had just checked in. Security let me in the next time since it was late at night. Then I got a new one that worked just fine. --It's on the red WeGo line, which is super convenient to get from camp down toward the falls, but beware that the Bus Routes are often on detour during the evening or weekends/busier times at the falls (or maybe its everyday in Summer? I'm still not sure) Parking down there can also be a pain. I didn't know all this and we ended up walking a lot! (Nothing to do with the campground, but if you're considering this location as a spot for your vaction, Just keep it in mind) --Lastly, I read in another review too, the train really does rumble right on through like you're in a train yard. My kids like trains, it was no big deal or deal breaker for us, just a few minutes here and there (and sometimes at 7am) but it's there! (Obviously not in the campgrounds control, again, just something to...
