Sadly my partner and I's experience at this motel was appalling. We checked into a room that cost nearly $200 and instantly regretted it. Firstly, the motel is very old, run down and incredibly sketchy. We were only staying for one night, so we didn't care too much, however there were smells in the room and the bathroom floor was disgusting. There was dirt in every corner, hairs all over the tub and the toilet didn't flush properly!
The worst part of this experience had to be when I went to open the window and a wooden block fell onto my toe. It hurt a bit, but I understood that this was a 2 star hotel and there wasn't really any point in complaining. As I pulled the frame up, the window itself fell on my head and I was shocked that nobody told us about the windows condition.
The AC worked and the beds were comfortable, but the stains on the hallway stairs and overall cleanliness of this motel leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
The next day my partner and I were continuing our travels and got a phone call from who we perceive to be either the manager or possibly the owner. He informed us that the window was shattered and he wanted us to pay for at least half of the damage ($300). However, he did not even give us an exact figure, instead he said "at least pay 50%" and without disclosing the total he wanted us to approve that charge. We explained that the window wasn't shattered when we left, but that there was in fact an issue with it staying open properly. He said we shouldn't have opened the window, and that the wood block was there to prevent opening the window. We were never told not to touch the window and I did not see the wooden block. If the window was working properly OR if he had mentioned for us not to adjust it then I could see his point but sadly we were never informed. He said that we handled this situation poorly by not telling him about the things we were dissatisfied with but considering the fact that we were there for one night and it's a two star motel.. whats the point in complaining? He then asked to see a picture of my head because he wanted to see "the injury".
It was horrible communicating with him as he called me a liar and constantly interrupted my girlfriend. We are both very sorry that his window is broken but we do not see how we should be held responsible for something that did not function correctly to begin with. We did not smash the window, nor was it even broken when we left.
Like other reviews have already stated, these suites are filthy and over priced and we highly recommend staying elsewhere. Very...
Read moreThe front of this motel looks really nice, but inside it's a mess of half-completed renovation projects that seem to be the work of an amateur.
The back door of the motel has a seemingly homemade security system where you have to swipe your room card to unlock the door. I couldn't get it to work, and had to go the long way to the front door.
You looked at the surrounding area on Google Maps, right? Did you notice those not one, but TWO separate train lines only about 200 meters from the motel? Hearing multiple LOUD train horns around 3 a.m. was the "highlight" of my night here.
Most of the rooms on the first floor have chairs by their exterior doors. Said chairs are so totally mismatched and worn out that it looks like the owners just grabbed a bunch of chairs from the local dump. The little buckets for cigarette butts by the chairs are also very "classy".
Some other old reviews mention the pool being dirty, but it looked fine (I didn't have time to swim), despite a bad layout where guests sometimes have to walk to their rooms through the "no shoes beyond this point" area between the showers and the pool.
My second floor room had a modern HDTV... with a fat old tube TV inexplicably sitting behind it. (Maybe they like to accomodate retro gamers, in case they bring along their Super Nintendo? /s) The HDTV was hooked up to some weird converter box, and I couldn't get any channels on it. (Didn't have time to call the front desk and see if they could get it to work).
The bathroom was cramped (and I'm only 5'11"!), had no proper towel rack, and the tub was stained. Their little soaps also felt really slimy.
I killed a large bug that was crawling on the window. I think it was a beetle, not a roach, but still gross.
The wifi worked fine for basic browsing, but I didn't check if it could handle video streaming. (Going by how poorly everything else is setup here, I suspect that I just lucked into the room beside the router, so don't expect good wifi in every room).
I pulled all the sheets off the bed, but was pleasantly surprised to NOT see any obvious signs of bed bugs!
I know that Parry Sound doesn't have tons of options, but try to get a room someplace...
Read moreAWFUL!!!! I want to start by saying I am not a picky person. When it comes to hotel stays I can appreciate that you pick the hotel based on the vacation or getaway you have planned. We were there with our son (husband and wife and a 7 year old boy) and we were there for a snowmobile trip. So we were certainly NOT looking for a luxury resort, just a clean and basic place to stay. I have traveled to various locations, and some hotels have been not “perfect” but they have been cheap and worth the money which made us completely happy with our stay. HOWEVER... This hotel is just plain GROSS! I booked online and when we arrived, the manager/owner kindly let us check in early. It was a kind gesture because he didn’t have to do that, but in all honesty, it was likely because they had NO guests (please note, I can’t say that for sure, that’s just a guess).
We were brought to our “suite”, and when we walked in, it completely STUNK like cigarette smoke and mold. Plus, there was two white pillows and one that was stained yellow. The smell was terrible! Sure, some people like to smoke in their place of residence or hotel rooms, but even if this was still allowed in Ontario, we prefer to sleep in a place that is smoke free. Nothing against smoke smell but we are not ok with our room smelling like someone smoked in there a couple hours before we go in. We asked for a new room and that is where our eyes were opened. Each room had its list of “issues”. The owner/manager brought us to 3 additional rooms and each was unacceptable. We finally picked the “best” of the 4 and it was just plain BAD. After my Son and Husband sat on the edge of the “barely made” bed, the whole mattress and box spring came off the floor by at least a foot. We just had to leave!!!!! I will include some pictures. I am a business owner myself, so I feel bad giving such a bad review and I would hate to see business owners fail, however, it needs a complete overhaul here. We paid $338 for two nights, and We walked away not even asking for a Refund. We chose to leave without a fight because we just couldn’t stay there. I am writing to tell you to STAY AWAY until they completely gut the place...
