Starting with the campsite booking and ending with my departure, I registered on TripAdvisor specifically to review my experience, and I am posting the same review here. Unfortunately, my friend and I encountered issues that I believe should be highlighted. Despite the situation, we remained composed, preventing potential escalation. This review aims to inform others to make more informed choices.
Having been to this campsite twice previously and being familiar with it (and its poor state), I returned for the third time to enjoy campfires specifically. We didn’t anticipate a fire ban to be placed shortly before our visit, so I regret this choice entirely. On June 27th, I booked tenting campsite G7 for August 4th to 6th with Dale. I inquired about quiet hours, nightly cost, firewood pricing, shower fees, and a late check-in around 10:30 PM. Dale answered cost-related queries but lacked specifics on quiet hours and merely mentioned not disturbing other campers. Notably, he stated, "There is no check-in time," without further detail. The booking lacked confirmation, and a second call was made to confirm/jot down our details.
Arriving on August 4th at around 11 PM, we found our reserved site occupied. Regretfully, I hadn't confirmed the booking earlier, solely relying on two phone calls as proof. Despite this oversight, we approached the main office and, after some effort, encountered Dale around 11:30 PM. He initially reacted aggressively, questioning the time and our intentions. After asserting a need for de-escalation from Dale, he apologized and suggested alternatives. This tense start spoiled our well anticipated vacation.
Hygiene consistently posed problems during my stays. Restroom conditions were unsatisfactory, leading me to avoid using them. The facilities exhibited poor maintenance, evident in missing tap handles, damaged flooring, and pervasive odors. Campsite fire pits were full of garbage, including non-burnable items. Such issues align with similar reviews and detract from the experience.
Lastly, when departing on Monday morning, Dale was difficult to reach. Contact took nearly an hour, and payment processing required additional wait time. Despite stating a checkout time of 11 AM, Dale's unavailability nearly led to my leaving without payment. His voicemail box was full, further complicating communication.
Dale's conduct displayed unprofessionalism, rudeness, and inefficiency, tarnishing the campsite's potential. I won't return unless ownership changes, as better alternatives are available. To those seeking respect, professionalism, and decent maintenance, I recommend exploring...
Read moreSleepy hollow is the place to be if you have pets or just like to see pets around. This place is different, it is like a magical place for the little things it has to offer. I came just to stay a month and find my self every morning waking up and enjoying the day. It has been a wonderful experience. The owner Dale is very accommodating and helps out with what you need if he can. The bathrooms maybe a bit buggy...but they are clean.if not into bugs then get your own trailer and then you have your own bathroom. The great thing is this place is meant for all types of scenarios. Weather you need full hooks or power and water or just need a place to rest your head to keep on moving then next day. I'm telling you folks once you come here you will want to come back for years to come. This is the place to stay. The campground is quite and people here are friendly. You get your odd people that drink and talk a bit loud but at quite hrs, it's quite. But that does not mean they aren't people out there they disregard the rules and still do it anyway. I would for sure tell the people that are being loud instead of wait the next day and be upset about it. That's just the wrong way going about it. I haven't complained and it has happen to me. That's why they invented the ear plugs. Gets some before you head out....that way you will still get a full night's sleep. Or don't and deal with it. I have to deal with you complaining! This place is a one in a life time place to camp. Plus they have a playground if you got little ones. Family orientated as well. Take care and can't wait to see you...
Read moreWas there recently (last week- July 2016) and yes, on an overall basis, its a good camping site- next to a little creek. The location is ideal - right on Waterton Avenue close to the gas station and convenience stores. There is a also a Tim Hortons within a 5 minutes driving distance, so I didn't get to miss my morning coffee :) In case you are looking for a pizza place, there is a store called A1 pizza place or something like that (near the gas station) - where you get a decent sized pizza for less. A little drive down also takes you to other "eat-out/take-out" options.
The showers are open from 7.30 am until 10.30 pm and they are quite nice and neat. They come at an additional $3 per person. You can use your hair dryer/electric razors inside the shower rooms too. There is also a nice little "hangout" place with free Wi-Fi and game boards :) Me and my husband forgot to take our umbrellas and we whiled away a rainy afternoon playing checkers in the hangout area :) You cannot bring your own firewood though. However, you can buy them on site for $8 or $10 depending on the size.
Washrooms - umm, well, the cleanliness of the washrooms is a bit questionable. I guess there is always the "inconsiderate camper" who leaves a mess behind. But yeah, the washrooms could do with a regular cleaning. The hosts are very warm and friendly...
On the whole - I will recommend this camping site to anyone who intends to go...
