Absolutely loved our stay at this beautifully renovated hotel with well appointed guest rooms, amenities, and responsive guest service agents.

Hotel: Fresh and clean atmosphere with high end touches, comfortable modern lounge areas, and a stunning lower level restaurant with secluded patio. We enjoyed the brunch buffet at the Legacy (for a fee) from an elegant rounded booth with the sunlight streaming in. So lovely.

Guest Room: We loved the complimentary robes, luxury white linens, large flatscreen, Nespresso coffee, and L'Occitane toiletries in our King room. Upon arrival the mini fridge wasn't working, so guest services brought a replacement to the room within minutes of our call. We were very impressed by the responsiveness and warmth of everyone who ensured we had everything we needed at all times. Notes: (1) Bring your own pillows if your prefer firm, and (2) ask for extra bathmats if your shower does not have a sliding glass door (ours only had a shower curtain which didn't contain the splashing).

Amenities: We were thrilled with the ambient skylit pool deck, heated saltwater pool & hot tub, personal Finnleo saunas, large, fully equipped gym with multiple treadmills and private change rooms (with rainwater showers). What an absolute TREAT to quietly enjoy these facilities after a long day.

Neighbourhood/Recommendations: This was our first time exploring Sarnia, and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Great location one block from the St. Clair where you can enjoy a riverside walk, herb gardens, parks, boats & dockside eateries.

  1. Blackwater Coffee Co, on Christina St: artisan espresso coffee & pastry, with a super cozy vibe.
  2. Honestly Dough, on Cromwell St: next level yeast-risen doughnuts, ramen & sourdough pizza.
  3. Milano's Pizza, on Christina St: 10/10 traditional take away pizza, generous toppings, great service.
  4. Greens Organic Food, on Christina St: vegan restaurant with beautiful food & ambiance.
  5. Maud's Variety, on Mitton St: the best craft cocktails, mocktails & beer from across Ontario, live music, eclectic vibe, and sunny patio.
  6. Joie de Vintage, on Front St: large, incredibly well curated collection of clothing, accessories, art, furniture, posters, and vinyl.

The Insignia is an absolute diamond in the rough. With so many unexpected gems within walking distance, this property delights in every possible way and we can't...

This is hands down one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at - I travel a lot for business and normally stay at any hotel that's part of the Bonvoy program. The Sherton Wall in Vancouver is a good comparison to this, but Insignia is better. Let me tell you why.

They pay a lot of attention to detail. The soundproofing is incredible, my room is probably right above the restaurant and I hear nothing. There is a live band playing in the bar area and all I hear are cars passing by. The art on the walls is unique (I had a map created by the UofT Geography department. The sheets are delightfully soft, comparable to my Booklinens. Hotel pillows are usually overstuffed and firm - these pillows are soft enough for me to bury my face in (wish I like to do when I sleep). The shower pressure is better than any shower I've ever experienced, I did not want to get out. There's a Nespresso machine along with lovely teas. The room was sparkling clean with the exception of coffee stains under the coffee machine (as I type this I realize that doesn't really matter). The renovations are divine and modern - open (doorless) storage cabinets and nightstands. Outlets. Everywhere. The lights are bright and easily accessible. Two sets of blinds, one to let in natural light and the second for blackout. The staff is friendly and the restaurant seems to be very popular amongst locals. Fantastic location right by the water and within downtown. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. The only non-metropolitan hotel that has a roof over the parking lot - great for those snowy nights.

This is my first time in Sarnia, I never thought I'd say this but I would come back for a...

We stayed there many years ago before it was majestically renovated and was renamed Insignia. On returning after renovations, we must say it is just a fantastic place to stay. What appeared to us was a complete detailed overhaul with artistic retro decor which enhances a relaxed atmosphere. The dining room and lounge are elegant. The hotel staff in every area is very welcoming, polite and accommodating. which are important factors for holiday seekers away from home.

The hotel is situated a few yards from the harbour with some rooms overlooking the St. Clair river and the U.S Michigan coastline, presenting a picturesque view of sailboats, freighters and well lit buildings at night. Compared to other places I have stayed since visiting Sarnia over the past 23 years, I must say it is the best location in downtown Sarnia. Many tourist attractions such as first class art galleries, and a variety of interesting restaurants, cafes and shops as well as wonderful waterfront parks (including a monumental artistic fountain) are within walking distance. The cruiseboat dock is visible and directly accessible from behind the hotel. Point Edward village, directly adjacent to Sarnia, with its many tourist attractions including a casino and the Blue-Water twin bridges are just around the corner, a 5-10 minute drive. Port Huron in Michigan, directly across the bridge, is another great destination for shopping, dining, etc.

Altogether our stay at this hotel over the thanks-giving weekend was a very satisfying experience and we will most definitely choose to stay at Insignia for our next visit to Sarnia.

This was actually my first time at Insignia last week. Stayed for three nights (business trip). I usually stay in Marriott’s, Delta or Sheraton and normally in Sarnia, I was a Holiday Inn client. Overall, nice hotel, well situated and very professional staff. Pros : Complimentary parking is nice. Rooms are well renovated and well equipped. Coffee machine is a bit minimalist but does the job and Timmy’s not far away. The microwave is a huge addition. There is plenty of room also to store your belongings. I like the fact that they have automatic lights in the hallways and outside. Very eco-friendly. Although the AC is a bit noisy, it really does the job too. Cons : Found many curly hairs that obviously did not belong to me (have straight hairs). While moving the tissue box in the bathroom to put my stuff, I also found some used make up removal pads. Not very cool. By the way, the only situation where I have ever filed a complaint was because of bugs inside the room in a pretty chic Hotel a while back. So no, not the type of guy to complain for minimal stuff but I do keep tabs of what I notice. Would recommend a more thoroughly cleaning in the rooms here. While we’re in the bathroom area, I found it to be a little bit tight. The shower was great, very good water pressure but the small glass will not keep the floor dry for too long. Use a carpet or you’ll slip. While plugging my phone charger, the bottom of the night lamp pretty much cut my finger. Be careful ! See picture. Overall great experience.

This was our first time to Sarnia, for business reasons. This hotel was excellent and more than lived up to its reputation (as we heard from a friend who lives there) of being the best option in the city. The front desk staff were excellent at check-in, and offered us a great upgrade based on our Marriott status. The room itself was very spacious, comfortable, and clean. They have the Westin-style rainshower shower heads, heated mirrors, bathrobes, a large modern/up-to-date TV, and Nespresso machines in the rooms. The restaurant is really great too and offers a free hot breakfast in the morning. The breakfast isn't just a standard free buffet either - they have multiple menu offerings which are delicious and high quality, and the waitbstaff were very friendly and professional too. The patio is very nice, and very comfortable. Lots of parking, and excellent WiFi which was fantastic because I needed to Zoom in for work in the morning and had no connection problems at all. The building is historic but beautifully newly renovated from top-to-bottom. No complaints at all. Not only would we stay here again if we were going back to Sarnia, but this is the only place we would stay in Sarnia. We might even come back to town some weekend just to check the city out which we've never done before just based on how great our stay here was.

Wonderful hotel - stayed for one night. We stayed in a junior suite which was great - a separate bedroom and then a living room. There is a desk which is perfect for doing work. Room was clean and well maintained. The hotel has a lovely indoor pool and and hot tub. There is a gym which looks out into the pool area. Pool area was great - not busy. The hotel is 2 short blocks from a beautiful paved waterfront path at Centennial Park. A lovely stroll in the morning or evening around the Sarnia Bay. There are some great restaurants nearby. The Imperial Theatre is also a 5 minute walk away. There is a restaurant - The Legacy Restaurant - attached to the hotel which is great - it is fine dining hotel. As a platinum Marriott member, we got $22 each for breakfast to use in the restaurant. This was enough for breakfast and a coffee each. Breakfast was fabulous - the menu is small but the food was well prepared and delicious. The sheet we got at check-in said we needed to make reservations but we weren’t able to make reservations for breakfast on the online booking site, so we just showed up and it was no problem. The restaurant was less than half full. I would definitely return here for breakfast. Overall, a great stay!
