Absolutely loved our stay at this beautifully renovated hotel with well appointed guest rooms, amenities, and responsive guest service agents.
Hotel: Fresh and clean atmosphere with high end touches, comfortable modern lounge areas, and a stunning lower level restaurant with secluded patio. We enjoyed the brunch buffet at the Legacy (for a fee) from an elegant rounded booth with the sunlight streaming in. So lovely.
Guest Room: We loved the complimentary robes, luxury white linens, large flatscreen, Nespresso coffee, and L'Occitane toiletries in our King room. Upon arrival the mini fridge wasn't working, so guest services brought a replacement to the room within minutes of our call. We were very impressed by the responsiveness and warmth of everyone who ensured we had everything we needed at all times. Notes: (1) Bring your own pillows if your prefer firm, and (2) ask for extra bathmats if your shower does not have a sliding glass door (ours only had a shower curtain which didn't contain the splashing).
Amenities: We were thrilled with the ambient skylit pool deck, heated saltwater pool & hot tub, personal Finnleo saunas, large, fully equipped gym with multiple treadmills and private change rooms (with rainwater showers). What an absolute TREAT to quietly enjoy these facilities after a long day.
Neighbourhood/Recommendations: This was our first time exploring Sarnia, and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Great location one block from the St. Clair where you can enjoy a riverside walk, herb gardens, parks, boats & dockside eateries.
The Insignia is an absolute diamond in the rough. With so many unexpected gems within walking distance, this property delights in every possible way and we can't...
Read moreThis is hands down one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at - I travel a lot for business and normally stay at any hotel that's part of the Bonvoy program. The Sherton Wall in Vancouver is a good comparison to this, but Insignia is better. Let me tell you why.
They pay a lot of attention to detail. The soundproofing is incredible, my room is probably right above the restaurant and I hear nothing. There is a live band playing in the bar area and all I hear are cars passing by. The art on the walls is unique (I had a map created by the UofT Geography department. The sheets are delightfully soft, comparable to my Booklinens. Hotel pillows are usually overstuffed and firm - these pillows are soft enough for me to bury my face in (wish I like to do when I sleep). The shower pressure is better than any shower I've ever experienced, I did not want to get out. There's a Nespresso machine along with lovely teas. The room was sparkling clean with the exception of coffee stains under the coffee machine (as I type this I realize that doesn't really matter). The renovations are divine and modern - open (doorless) storage cabinets and nightstands. Outlets. Everywhere. The lights are bright and easily accessible. Two sets of blinds, one to let in natural light and the second for blackout. The staff is friendly and the restaurant seems to be very popular amongst locals. Fantastic location right by the water and within downtown. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. The only non-metropolitan hotel that has a roof over the parking lot - great for those snowy nights.

Read moreWe stayed there many years ago before it was majestically renovated and was renamed Insignia. On returning after renovations, we must say it is just a fantastic place to stay. What appeared to us was a complete detailed overhaul with artistic retro decor which enhances a relaxed atmosphere. The dining room and lounge are elegant. The hotel staff in every area is very welcoming, polite and accommodating. which are important factors for holiday seekers away from home.
The hotel is situated a few yards from the harbour with some rooms overlooking the St. Clair river and the U.S Michigan coastline, presenting a picturesque view of sailboats, freighters and well lit buildings at night. Compared to other places I have stayed since visiting Sarnia over the past 23 years, I must say it is the best location in downtown Sarnia. Many tourist attractions such as first class art galleries, and a variety of interesting restaurants, cafes and shops as well as wonderful waterfront parks (including a monumental artistic fountain) are within walking distance. The cruiseboat dock is visible and directly accessible from behind the hotel. Point Edward village, directly adjacent to Sarnia, with its many tourist attractions including a casino and the Blue-Water twin bridges are just around the corner, a 5-10 minute drive. Port Huron in Michigan, directly across the bridge, is another great destination for shopping, dining, etc.
Altogether our stay at this hotel over the thanks-giving weekend was a very satisfying experience and we will most definitely choose to stay at Insignia for our next visit to Sarnia.
