My mom and I have been loyal patrons of Best Western during our frequent visits to Sherwood Park for farmers markets over the past couple of years. Our experiences had always been positive until our last stay, which left us profoundly disappointed.
Upon preparing for bed after a long day, we were dismayed to find pubic hairs in what were supposed to be clean sheets. Initially, we were willing to overlook a single oversight, but discovering a third instance compelled us to request new bedding. Although the staff provided us with fresh sheets, there was no one available to assist with changing them, leaving us to manage on our own. This was not a significant issue for us, and we appreciated the offer to upgrade to a more prestigious room. However, we declined, as we did not want to appear troublesome; we simply desired clean sheets.
Expecting some form of compensation for the inconvenience, we hoped for a discount or a complimentary room for one of our two nights, especially since we took the initiative to change the bedding ourselves. Unfortunately, the hotel’s response was to award us points within their system. The gesture, while perhaps well-intentioned, did not align with our expectations. We found the points system confusing and not particularly useful, given our lack of interest in future stays.
Additionally, we couldn’t help but notice a decline in the quality of the breakfast offerings over the last few months, with a limited selection that heavily favored starches and proteins, lacking in fruits and vegetables.
While the staff at Best Western were always kind, courteous, and apologetic about our concerns, the resolution offered by management—points instead of a direct form of compensation—was disappointing. We had hoped for a more straightforward acknowledgment of our inconvenience, such as a discounted or complimentary stay, rather than points we do not intend to use.
It’s with a heavy heart that we share this review, as our past experiences have been so positive. We wish the management team would reconsider how they address such issues in the future to maintain the high standards we know Best Western...
Read moreThe rooms were nice as it was a new hotel. Check-in late at night was good and the breakfast room was good. And then........
a) Staff meeting in the breakfast room with the staff hanging out for more than an hour. TIP - do your meetings elsewhere as a guest I want to relax. The facilities are for the guests not the staff. b) Guys with metal ladders clanging and banging in the pool area while we are trying to enjoy an peaceful am swim. TIP: Do your maintenance pm when the guest are not there. Fire alarm in full operation between the ladder guys. c) FIRE Alarm drills am starting 9:30 am??? Guys knocking on my door and wanting to come to check room while we are trying to get dressed? Guy with hat hanging outside (staff) our door till we checked out. We were basically rushed out of our room at 10:00. So much for valuing the guests. "We gotta do the drill man" is his answer?? TIP: Do your drill at 11:00 WHEN YOUR GUESTS HAVE CHECKED OUT!!
The operation of this hotel is done at a clueless level with little consideration for the guests.
People that travel want peace and quiet and we want to be able to enjoy our stay. The staff dresses professionally and smiles but that is about it. Obviously Best Western has some serious issues at the corporate level in general if they can allow a hotel to be run in this manner and a guest to be treated rudely (guy hanging outside of our door texting till we left).
I left a card expressing my concerns at the hotel. NO RESPONSE. Rule one of business is respond to customer concerns. WE DON'T CARE is the general feeling I get from my stay at that particular hotel. Another example of poor...
