My family of four just returned from Cox Bay Beach resort in Tofino. We were traveling with my sister and her family.||The location and the room layout of Cox Bay are wonderful. Cox Bay is an amazing beach for surfing and boogie boarding so it was a bonus to have that steps away from our room. We had a 1 bed unit and really liked the layout. It was spacious and the bathroom was nice. My sister had a 2bed with a loft and it was also wonderful.||Unfortunately, we were in room 1, the farthest away from the beach. Our room was on the main floor and was VERY dark. We felt trapped and like we were in a cave. Even if you sat on the patio, it was dark. We often went to my sister's room as it was brighter. Perhaps some landscaping and trimming of bushes and trees could brighten up these areas. ||The resort is still following COVID restrictions and has a very bizarre way of booking the hot tub, gym and main hang out room. You can not book these rooms or amenities in advance, you need to show up at the desk (or call) and hope you're lucky. We were very frustrated many times as the hot tub had "just been booked" even though we had set a timer to return to the office. On another night, we tried to reserve the main room only to learn that we were given keys for the lookout room. ||I would hope that the resort would consider ending these restrictions as the hot tub is outdoors and most people only need to stay for about 20min. Coming and going from the hot tub and the gym shouldn't be a problem. The main room would have be useful if we could have just popped in and out as well. ||There are no other gathering places at the resort. It would be nice to have adirondack chairs and a fire pit or two by the main activities room or benches along the walkway so those staying in the "dark rooms" could sit in the sun a bit. ||Overall we enjoyed our stay, the price was better than other resorts in Tofino but I do not think we will be...
Read moreThis was the fourth year we stayed at Cox Bay Resort for Thanksgiving. The location is perfect. Our stay this time was not up to the previous standards. We were given a room that was ‘under the stairs’ and it was very noisy for our daughter who was sleeping on the pullout in the living room. We asked to be moved just after our arrival but they were unable to accommodate us, saying they were full for the night, even though they had a vacancy sign out front and it was obvious not all suites had been assigned to guests yet for the evening as it was approx 4:30pm. The room was not very clean, after moving a side table there was dust and left over food particles, one of the heating panels was askew and when the cover was removed to be straightened food particles fell out. The shower head was so strong our daughter said it felt like needles on her skin, and could not be adjusted, we had not experienced this in the past. The bathroom was very dusty (we are tall and see heights others may not) and the shower curtain didn’t have enough hangers on it and had a hole in it. The bathroom supplies were minimal considering it was a long weekend stay, as was the coffee supplied. While we could have asked for more, enough should be supplied for the length of stay. The hot tub was more like a warm bath and the jets did not work. In the past, the resort had appeared to be more family friendly where as this trip was a much heavier drinking crowd with people very visibly intoxicated, unable to walk on their own at early hours of the evening. While we have recommended the resort to many others in the past, I will hesitate to...
Read moreEveryone can agree the perfect vacation is not complete without a gargantuan colander. Rest assured you will not be disappointed at the Cox Bay Beach Resort.
Oh sure, the beach is fantastic, the staff is super friendly and accommodating, and the suites are well maintained and super cozy. One could write a review about the detailed thought that the architects and designers put into the planning of this resort, and how one could tell that was followed through to every detail inside and outside of the suite, but of course that would be neglecting the most important part of the Cox Bay Beach Resort – the super-sized sieve in the kitchen.
We all know that when cooking dinner for two and draining pasta that we want 95% of the colander to be unused. It’s a simple way to assert meal prep dominance and show your friends and family members you are not to be messed with.
Other reviews probably talk about the rest of the well-appointed kitchen, the storage lockers for surfboards, the hot tub right off the beach and how the resort is simultaneously away from it all but also in the middle of the ‘action’ of Tofino. Some may talk about how the area is nestled into the stunning natural surroundings that is so uniquely the West Coast that it lays bare a truly unparalleled experienced. But, they would unfortunately be missing the most important part – superfluous sieve.
In summary, if you want a colossal colander that is wider than your spouse, visit Cox Bay Beach Resort and you will not be...
