Overall, we love coming to Pacific Sands!
We stayed in one of the Lighthouse suites last time, and ended up in one of the Oceanside suites this time.
We LOVED how the brand new suites are furnished and decorated! We felt at home immediately. The kitchens are well thought out, and well equipped. The living room is a tad squishy (the room we were in was meant for up to 4 people, but it was squishy with just the two of us!), but the bathroom and bedrooms are a nice size. The bed and pillows are sooo comfy! And they really do think of everything - there are rain jackets for each suite, they have refillable soap/shampoo/conditioner/hand cream (which all smelled amazing,) and they even provide beach towels for each room!
We were a tad disappointed the room didn't have air conditioning, as it was pretty humid while we were there (I have asthma, so it ended up kind of sucking a bit, especially at night.)
The views from the new suites are also not that great, unless you're willing to shell out big bucks for the new ones closet to the beach, or the older suites. Understandable that they wanted to accomodate more rooms, but the whole reason for staying on the beach is the views.
The amenities they have are pretty well thought out, though! They have a on-site surf school, which also plays host to Yoga classes on Saturdays, and there is Yoga on the Beach in the summer. I did luck out and was able to make their last summer "Yoga on the Beach" class on the Friday morning at 10am, and it was heavenly! I would have loved if there were more options for Yoga - just the regular, one day, at 7:30am is a little too early to get up for on a holiday!
There is also a private area on the beach, just for guests, that is a boardwalk to Sunset Point - a gorgeous place to watch the sunset, the surfers, and the power of the ocean.
They have an on-site Grill, which offers burgers, fish and chips, and a few other easy surf and turf eats. It's too bad there aren't more options for breakfast or dinner, though. But the food is excellent, and they offer gluten free buns, which was a great surprise. In the seating area, there are a few gas fires to sit around, and in the summer they do Smore nights!
There isn't a common hot tub or pool which would be nice to have. But if you're willing to shell out a bit more, some of the more expensive rooms have their own hot tubs!
Overall, a great place to stay! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the housekeeping does a wonderful job. Very professional!
We will be back again for sure!
(PS: I tried posting more than one photo, but it wouldn't let me... Will try...
Read moreWhat can I say about Pacific Sands that hasn’t already been said a million times? My boyfriend and I had been talking about going to Pacific Sands for years, and we were finally able to go for Valentine’s day this year. We stayed in the oceanside suite, and were so lucky to be in such a great room! We had direct ocean views, and the room was beautiful. It came with every amenity we needed, and the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were so phenomenal we couldn’t help but buy full sizes of them before we left! The bathroom was beautiful, and the tub was luxurious, we loved the pumps for the different body and hair care products, very innovative for reducing waste. The bed was huge, and although very comfy, the pillows were not, I may recommend bringing your own pillows! They were very stiff and very tall, leaving you with neck pain in the morning, but that was my only qualm! Although Tofino is filled with many amazing restaurants, we couldn’t help but stay at the resort and eat at the beach front grill. The food was fantastic, and you could place an order and pick up in minutes. The views were phenomenal, unbelievably breathtaking. We were lucky enough to get the various cliff-side benches to ourselves and enjoyed some romantic alone time watching the waves crash and the surfers in the water. It was incredible, and we were lucky that it was so beautiful and sunny all weekend. The fire pits were fantastic, and allowed for us to enjoy the evening without freezing our toes off! We also appreciated the selection of movies and snacks available, perfect for those that forget their creamer for their coffee or their popcorn for a movie night! It was the best place we have ever visited for a romantic getaway, and since our trip it has been all we could think about. We have never been so relaxed, I swear. I understand why their online giveaways are so popular, because this place is one in a million, it’s incredible. Although it would be fantastic to visit during the summer season, I highly recommend visiting during the off season. Although it is cold, I promise it is so worth it. Walking the beach and waking up to the sound of waves crashing is like something out of a movie, you will want to experience it over and over again. I cannot wait to go again, and I hope we can make it a yearly trip...
Read morePoor value for the price. I booked 3 nights at an Oceanside suite for my honeymoon based off the resorts instagram. I felt mislead because from the photos, I was expecting a spacious and warm room atmosphere, this was not that. We only stayed two nights (the first because we had made a 14 hour drive from the interior of BC) and the second (for dinner reservations over in Ucluelet that was given as a wedding gift that couldn't be changed). We didn't unpack, barely at the resort apart from sleeping and my wife's allergies were unbearable. The rooms lacked privacy and we were woken more than once from screaming children and drunk and disorderly banging on the wrong door. Customer service was very short and not understanding towards the situation at all other than receiving 10% back ONLY on the night we didn't stay. This resort has no amenities unless you are a very zealous surfer and or want to rent a sauna for a couple hundred dollars. Based off other comparables at the same or lesser price point, where we have stayed both resort and AirBNB, this does not measure nearly as well I was led to believe off of their appealing instagram. The two stars are for the incredible view of Cox bay and the beautiful beach and this review would be quite different if this was a simple surfing getaway. Note: Upon arrival and check in we were told we should have booked a nicer room which was disappointing seeing as we worked very hard to afford this well advertised resort and had driven very far that day and had no prior suggestions otherwise.
Secondly, as a learned builder and well versed in all construction practices if you are paying over 500$ a night I do expect the finishing such as flooring, baseboard and casing to be tight and mitred, not loose flooring with inverse head casing butt joints. The light switch in our bathroom room sat at least 55" off the floor which is quite high to find in the middle of the night, seemed like a build oversight during the rough in stage.
Although this is a very well situated; beautiful location and very well advertised, due to our experience, we will not be rebooking and/or suggesting otherwise to...
