We stayed the evenings of July 30th and 31st, two night stay in the king "suite." I’ll note this room was $290 CAD per night (so after tax and fees and what not around $650 - $700 for a two night stay). Overall the room was clean and quiet, TVs, fridge, and microwave included in room with a Keurig coffee machine. Stayed with 2 kids (2 and under) so were pretty occupied with getting them settled in.
All that said, the issues started with the service. Check-in was listed at 4:00 PM. We called more than a week earlier than our stay to ask if there are any possibilities for earlier check-ins depending on check-out times (not demanding, just asking the possibility). The front desk staff told us that it depends on the day and the person in the suite before us, but we should call the first morning of our stay and see if the person before us has checked out earlier, and if so they can request the room be prepared earlier for an earlier check-in. We were very thankful as it would be much easier for us to travel with the two kids and arrive just after nap times in the car then check in around 1 - 2 PMish. The morning of our stay, we called at 10:00 AM and the front desk staff said they don’t really accommodate early check-in requests. After mentioning the staff last week said we could call in that day to ask, we were put on hold while they “checked” with someone. After being on hold they said to call in at noon after the previous person had been checked out and they could see if they can request it. So we hit the road, expecting to find somewhere else to go if we couldn’t check in early, and called again at noon. They said there is no possible way to accommodate an early check-in, and they never request that. We explained the previous calls, and they said they just don’t do that. Good to know now, I guess, though I would train the staff on the actual policies to provide to customers.
Once we finally checked in around 6:00 PM (found other things to do in town while our bags were in the car), check in was easy and the room was quite clean and big. Great for kids to play with toys we brought. There was no bath, only a shower, so we couldn’t give either of our kids a bath, settled for wipes at the end of the day. We called to the front desk to have extra towels sent to our room for the kids (we had noted we were two adults and two kids in our booking) and they informed us they do not have room service. Of any kind. At all. For $300 a night. We have to go to the front desk to get towels, extra Keurig pods, anything. We were on the 4th floor with a toddler and newborn. I understand this is a minor inconvenience to most, but I’ve stayed at motels for $60 a night where they would bring you towels to your room.
The last morning of our stay around 7:00 AM I was helping the toddler use the potty and my wife was feeding the newborn, so I called the front desk to ask if they could bring us new cups for the Keurig as they don’t clean the room every night either, so for our stay we didn’t have new cups or anything put in our room while we were out. Again, understandable… but just sort of baffling for $300 a night personally. The front desk staff was at least accommodating enough to bring us extra cups, but seemed very much in a huff-and-puff about it. I said thank you multiple times to which he exhaled, rolled his eyes, and left.
At any rate, the stay overall was fine, about 45 minutes out of the city with traffic but overall not so bad. Room was alright, breakfast was meh (decent food but not a whole lot of options). I’m only giving 2 stars as the room was nice, but service was just abysmal and it is not worth the price. I wouldn’t suggest anyone stay at this hotel...
Read moreHotel was easily accessible to the area. First impression, and throughout: clean, clean, clean! While it's normal that little slip-ups could occur at any facility, I doubt they happen often here.
High ceilings and tall windows in my hotel room prevented that enclosed feeling. Huge shower and no carpets made it feel cleaner and more manageable. Wide hallways were a plus, and speedy elevators made trips in and out of the hotel quick.
Instead of a "dresser" for storage, it has a storage bench with deep drawers beneath - great great idea! Also prefer using comfy sofa chair for sitting, which they had.
I have a low glycemic-index diet. It's a necessity, not an option. Good breakfast choices (including hot food) for that. I would recommend that they stock sugar free yogurt in addition to all their other flavors...not a necessity, just a plus. There is a cinnamon shaker in the breakfast area (I used in my coffee, not on my oatmeal), and walnuts for your yogurt or cereal. There is also a crepe station!! Didn't get to try it though. They have both caffeinated and decaf teas, and coffee, all of which were of a nice quality.
The dining area is large, bright and roomy, and you are not having to squeeze by people eating, to get your food or coffee. Thankfully, they don't start putting away their breakfast offerings half an hour before breakfast ends, like in some hotels. I really appreciated that. And if they see that you are arriving directly before, or if there are still people eating in the dining area, they keep it all open. THAT alone shows great customer service.
Will definitely stay here when I'm back in the area, as there is a bit of shopping in the area, and it is only a very short drive to any of the West Island shopping zones. Easy highway access. It certainly doesn't have an "outskirts" of town feel at all. Internet was fast and reliable. It is clear that staff are expected to use excellent manners if they should encounter you - they greet you, and let you go ahead of them in doorways, elevators, etc. I may not be able to afford high-priced hotels too often, so while it's perfectly fair to charge less for fewer services or amenities, it should not be for poorer quality service.
Will be...
Read moreWe finally arrived home yesterday after our worst ever hotel experience staying at this hotel for 3 nights. Returning to hotel late in the evening after a long day out for our last night we found to our dismay our room wasn’t done up and was in the same state as we had left it in the morning. We went downtown to the reception to ask why this was so and the person nonchalantly said that they were short-staffed. We couldn’t accept this as a satisfactory response, and we asked to check-out and whilst that person was preparing to check us out, she nonchalantly said that there will not be a refund as it was already past 7:30pm. So, we were put in a very awkward situation and then my wife asked if they could give us a different room and this person said that she could that. This was the beginning of a series of problems for us.
After moving all our stuff to the new room, we found that the bathroom drain was completely blocked, and the inside edges of the sink were covered in disgusting brown stains – someone had puked in this sink and the hotel staff had not bothered to clean the sink properly. The room was cold and we couldn’t even get the heating to work. We had to go down to the reception that this room was not fit to stay in and they gave us another room. So we moved our stuff in the third room and found that the bath tub to wobbly and the supporting structure making an awful creaking sound when you got in.
It seems that they have never cleaned the tiling around the bath tubs in all three rooms that we were in – the tiles are covered in soap scum and the white grouting has turned brown and black – absolutely disgusting. The tiles and the grouting need are badly in need of a good scrub. This is not all. The breakfast area is very depressing – the furniture they have in this room is not fit enough to be in a soup kitchen. And this hotel is definitely not for people who have an aversion for pork as the lobby area and the elevators wreak with the smell of back every morning.
Simply put, this hotel is an insult to the Holiday Inn...
