We are an Australian family of 3- our son is 12 . We chose to stay at Apartment El Palacito as we wanted to stay in a traditional Palafito in Casto but also have access to a small private living area/ kitchen.|Our stay included breakfast which is provided next door at Cafe Montt. The breakfast is super simple but great. The coffee is fabulous .. The creamed honey the best we have ever tasted.... The guy who owns Cafe Montt is a wealth of information as to the best places in Castro/Chiloe to visit and has plenty of maps and super happy to share his thoughts and tried ideas. He really is a massive asset to this little group of just 4 apartments in this complex - so remember to ask for his ideas of places to go and see.|The apartment was so sweet, super super clean and a lovely size for the 3 of us.|The master bedroom sits on the road side of the apartment..... Everyone coming to Castro needs to know- Castro has many dogs, they bark, often at different times in the night.. The road that the Palafitos are all on is a pretty busy road. So expect the noise of traffic in the night. Expect to hear people walking by and just the sounds of a busy little hub.|If the thought of noise at night is not for you- then don't stay here... Stay out of the town.|But if you want to be able to walk to some fabulous little restaurants and into the main square and church- and happy to put up with what quite simply are the sounds of Castro- then I highly recommend staying. |We loved just being in as real as u will find - being...
Read moreMy wife and I spent three nights at the Palafito del Mar last month. TripAdvisor is my primary source for choosing hotels, and our stay here was just as described, just as we hoped. The hotel itself is a work of art: lots of creative use of natural materials, light, awareness of the tides, beautiful design. As a palafito, this hotel is a little quirky...not a "well oiled machine." With the helpful staff always nearby, things worked out just fine. At the end of our two weeks in Chile, we thought of it as one of ourmost comfortable hotel stays. The room is simple with a small bathroom, a very comfortable bed, and one wall is a window looking out to the water and the peaks and angles of the surrounding architecture. As with any hotel stay, the delights of the building and setting don't mean much without the kind, helpful. personnel. The staff at the Palafito are kind and helpful, as well as interesting, warm and caring. Carolina was there to welcome us and help us depart. Between those two events, she cooked lovely simple fish dinners for us, and told us about Chiloe and herself. We looked forward to our little chats with her as we were coming and going. Pablo was very kind and helpful. It was clear that our experience at the palafito was very important to them and the rest of the staff. Nice Chilean breakfasts overlooking the shore (with occasional pelicans and fisher birds on the railing) and interesting conversations with the other guests. Staying here was a lovely,...
Read moreWe were lucky enough to spend two nights in apartment number 2. We had the building to ourselves and had the most peaceful and relaxing couple of days. We could easily have stayed a week. The apartment is warm and cosy with a beautiful terrace with its feet in the water at hight tide. Very well equipped kitchen and we went to the market early in the morning and purchased the freshest hake we have ever had. And we live near Newlyn in Cornwall so that shows how fresh!!!||||The staff at check in, at the hotel just down the road, were really helpful and sorted out a change of apartment from number 1 with not problem. They are renovating the palafito next door so number 1 was experiencing a little noise while we were there. Breakfast at the cute little cafe next to the apartment was included. Coffee/Tea bread, butter, jam, cheese and ham. ||||We walked around the streets feeling like locals and everyone is very friendly. There are dogs around but they didn't bother us at all. It always seems to be raining on Chiloe and the boat trips were cancelled but the rain adds to the charm. The reflections in the water are stunning and we could sit inside the apartment looking out of the huge windows enjoying the fishing boats come and go. ||||As you can tell we absolutely loved Chiloe and hope to return to 'our' apartment one day and stay for longer. Thank you all the...
