YOU can do better just as we will next visit to Pucon. Our Internet Booking had our room listed as * Superior * Double Room, Private Bathroom. The $110 US$ we ended up having to pay per night for our Queen bed and private bathroom was what we would have expected to pay for accommodations similar to hotels we had stayed in during our earlier 30 day travels through Argentina and southern Chile. What we received in service and accommodations for our 4 nights fell Very Far Short of that expectation. The Positive ; #1. The location directly across from Eltit Supermercado, and just around the corner from O’Higgins and couple of very good restaurants. #2. the lady working the morning breakfast was very friendly and even offered us scrambled eggs one morning. Breakfast’s were reasonable.#3. Kitchen has a very good working space and reasonable cooking supplies.#4 Reasonable common room space and nice garden out back.||The Negatives— #1. our first night in our room we were greeted in the tiny bathroom by a 4 leg creature we assume to be either a large Mouse or a Small Rat. In some 40, yes Forty years of hosteling around the world this was a first. I could have killed the creature given it was cornered under the sink, but attempted to catch it and release it outside. Unfortunately it scampered out and we assume exited our room and entered the one across the hall. I reported this to the Receptionist who came up and gave a nod and chuckle as much as to say..” Oh, another one.” I know one location where this would result in the place being closed. #2. They say hair dryers are available on Request..we requested and were told none available. #3 toilet seat cover is loose and sitting thereon requires a degree of caution as it slips to one side or the other. #4 The floor tile adjacent to toilet is floating on water..step on it and it Oozes bubbles..look out below as in time that is where the toilet and you might end up. #5. To get hot water in the sink on a reasonable demand time I found it helped to first open the shower’s hot tap for several minutes. #6. Nice shower albeit small but had to interrupt my shower as the drain needs to be cleared as water starts to back up over the base rim. Following the slow drain pause you can carry on with the shower. #7. 2 Senior Guest And they give us 1 hand towel and 2 bath towels. To get a proper balance we had to ask for the second hand towel. #8 in 4 nights our bed sheets were neither changed NOR was the bed made up. A standard procedure in our 3* + hotels we stayed in. #8 Soap or accessories are NOT provided as per hotels. #9. When we entered the room with Receptionist for first time it was Very hot. He opened the windows, I Noticed No fan or Air Conditioning but a large Standing Electric Heater was available. After he left I attempted to adjust the Left swinging open windows and discovered a major problem — the hinge pin from the bottom had dropped out. I recovered it from the ledge outside and then attempted unsuccessfully to re-insert it. I certainly wasn’t about to get out on that roof below. I had the Receptionist come And look at this..he took the pin and that was the end of that. The Right window is also close to breaking from it’s hinging so we treated it with caution. #9b.The location of the Hostel adjacent to A large Green Space,Field,Park found it being used for Pucon’s Anniversary Day, our last night in Pucon. . By 3 in the morning the Heavy Rock Band had stopped and the 1000’s of people headed home, we fell asleep..at last! #10 They advise you there is no elevator so if on top floor be careful of stairs as the ‘Rise- Run’ of the treads is below the Building Code requirements of NA. There is more to do with this reservation that has to do with the Internet booking and the Hostals price charged. That I will view as Caveat Emptor.||||To end this nightmare of tragedies a touch of humour / a quote from that wonderful movie set in India..The Marigold hotel ... ...
Read moreThis is the second time I stayed in La Nuez. and I have to say it was just as wonderful as the last time!! The first time I visited was during the high season (late January/early February) with a small group of friends. This time it was a group of about 15 students and it was the low-season. Both times the quality was incredible. Of all the hostels I've stayed in La Nuez is definitely the best! The location is perfect, right off the main road (O'Higgins), just a few minutes walk from the bus terminal and a block or two a way from all the best restaurants and the "heart" of the city. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and just overall beautiful. The living/dining room is decorated in such a way that you feel at home and just want to spend hours in front of the fire talking, reading, relaxing. The owners (Carola and Fernando) are absolutely wonderful; they help you with anything you need whether it be making a reservation for a tour or a recommendation for a vegetarian-friendly restaurant. They love what they do and it shows in the care they put into every detail and ensuring that you have the best stay possible. I wouldn't stay...
Read moreWhen we knocked on the door of Hostal La Nuez, we were freaking out about where we would spend the night since the drive to get there took longer than expected. This is where great service makes a huge difference. Ju, the chick that was working there really looked after us.||We were able to use their phone call some friends' that lived an hour away and tell them we were not going to be able to make it for dinner as we didn't have a Chilean sim card. She made us tea and reassured us that even if we couldn't stay there, she would help us find another hostel. That was before we even booked a room there. Ju was relaxed and at the same time promptly helped us by suggesting places to go to.||The place itself has character, great breakfast, a cozy communal area and the rooms were clean and spacious. It's right around the corner from a supermarket and a stone throw's away from from all the tour agencies from which you'll head out for the activities (Villarica volcano climbing, riding horses, canopy etc).||Overall, great location, amazing staff and a laid-back, mountain-chic aesthetics and...
