This hostel is run by a kind and hard-working family. The place and rooms are absolutely spotless- they clean everything fanatically every day, which is hard to do in a desert dustbowl. I mean Really clean!!! The room was nice overall, although it got very hot with direct afternoon sun and no ac. I enjoyed the small cold plunge pool which I used every day. It is generally quiet, and they offer free all day coffee and tea service with interesting herbal teas I had never seen before. Full kitchen you can use at night, and underutilized windy roof deck w good views. Downsides: the owners speak only Spanish so if you no habla espanol, you may struggle. They charge foreign credit cards as debit cards so it wont work unless you have a pin (or a debit card). The breakfast is served starting at 8 but thats when most tours pick up (they do offer to go “snacks” if you ask ahead). Most importantly, the hostel is a 15-20m long, boiling hot and very dusty walk into town for restaurants, food etc. Nothing is near. There is a tiny sign near the rear kitchen door offering rides for 3000 pesos that I saw on my last day- definitely worth it. If you do not have a car, be clear on...
Read moreThis is clearly one of the better places to stay in San Pedro de Atacama. Staff are hugely helpful and rooms are meticulously clean. It’s in a new area of town which is about 25-30 mins walk to town centre. Has a delightful viewing deck to enjoy awesome starry nights. Free WIFI and a couple of very welcoming common areas - one indoors with TV and the other outdoors so you don’t need to be stuck in your room. Breakfast was a huge offering and included the best coffee I’ve had in Chile so far. ||Very accomodating with our late checkout, and they even dropped us into town by car one day - and picked us up - which was hugely welcomed by my old exhausted legs after a long day.||||Suggestions- Would love a small pile of lap rugs on the stargazing deck. And maybe a few loan umbrellas in reception to avoid the strong sunshine going to and from town because there is almost no shade on the streets. Maybe the option to buy chilled water to take away too?||||Would be a full 5 star - but the shower was annoying for spilling across the whole floor - but a good shower.||||Thanks guys. We would...
Read moreThe staff at Illauca are some of the kindest and most helpful people we have encountered on our trip across Chile. You might have a little trouble if you don’t speak Spanish but they are always willing to go out of their way to help. ||The rooms are very nice and tidy, and seemed like luxury compared to the majority of San Pedro. ||It is a little far from the town (20 minute walk) but this could be easily improved with access to bicycles from the Hostel. One on occasion, the owner even drove us into town (further proving the amazing kind of people the staff are). ||The breakfast was also incredible with lots of options (and the best coffee we have found in Chile, too). They also prepared us a snack to take away with us on the day where we left on a tour earlier than breakfast started. ||Thank you for...
