Hostal Pablito is a great spot to hang your hat while visiting the Atacama desert. The staff are very attentive and accommodating. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, don’t be intimidated. They’re very patient and able to communicate even with those of us who aren’t great Spanish speakers. ||Pros: Breakfast is good. Nothing fancy but there is a good variety (ham, cheese, breads, cake roll, two types of cereal, yogurt, breakfast bars, fresh fruit, hot water for instant coffee or tea, and they’ll ask if you’d like eggs - huevos - and they’ll cook them fried or scrambled). Room size was good for the wife and I with our two kids. The bathroom was a little smaller than most Americans are used to but was probably the average size or even a little bigger than what you’d see in Europe. Laundry service on site at a reasonable price. Secure entry gate and a place to park your car inside the hotel property if needed.||Cons: Not really, but if I had to say one it is that the property is a little bit of a walk from the center of town...even this was good in that it made us walk off a little of the delicious meals we ate in the center of town (Adobes and Barros being a couple of spots we enjoyed).||I highly recommend Hostal Pablito when you visit Atacama whether it’s just you or a...
Read moreA well-rated hostel off the beaten path. It took a while for us to locate this hostel as it was quite a distance from the city center, but we appreciate the quiet at night and the relative peace at the property. Breakfast was good with a decent spread and a grilled cheese sandwich machine. They provide free drinking water as well which we appreciated. On our second night, the hot water failed us and they didn’t manage to restore it back so we had to shower in the cold in the middle of winter.
As we were about to pay for the room, they insisted we pay in cash or add additional tax of we pay by credit card. This is ridiculous as Chilean law states that tourists are not obligated to pay any tax of any kind and hostel/hotel are supposed to except credit card without charge (unlike in Peru). We suspect a potential tax evasion but we didn’t want this little incident to ruin our holiday, so we paid in cash and let it go. Staff doesn’t speak English as well so be ready with your Google Translate to get by and...
Read moreThe hostal was good. Our room was nicely decorated and we had a private bathroom. The hotel was really clean. We did not try the swimming pool. The staff was preparing the breakfast very early (sometimes at 4.00 am) in case we had early morning excursions.||The two things that I would say on the hostal is that sometimes the staff was quite hard to find and they were taking 25pct of fees for a payment by card which is 1) by far the highest we have ever seen during or trip 2) they did not even mention, which is rude: I asked to pay by card: they said something like 500 dollars which was way higher than what I expected. Then I asked by cash and she said the normal price (approx 400 dollars). I think a small warning like “if you want to pay by card there are 25pct fees” would be appreciated. All the staff was not like that but...
