My friend and I stayed 3 nights. ||Pros: We got a renovated room which was very nice, modern and spacious. The community areas are relaxing and well maintained. The breakfast was good. They had avocado, tomato, fruit salad, watermelon, ham, cheese, scrambled eggs, cereal and very tasty cake. Breakfast starts at 4am to accommodate early tours. House cleaning was very efficient. ||Cons: The hotel is located in a residential neighborhood. It’s about 10 min walk from town but the path to get there is a bit dusty and there are limited sidewalks. We checked in late (~9pm). The person at the front desk during that time at night didn’t speak any English so you would need to know some Spanish if you arrive late. ||The front door and bathroom door were not built well. We especially had issues locking the front door every time we left. ||There is AC and a ceiling fan. However, the AC only works between 2:30pm-10pm and it’s set on an automatic timer. It only works for 30 min and turns off for an hour before turning on again for 30 min. There is a ceiling fan but the combination of both the limited AC and ceiling fan during the day is not sufficient to cool the room down. We also opened the window at night which helped but it can be noisy. The electricity and water both shut off once during our stay, possibly due to the fact that we’re in a residential area.||The AC didn’t work when we first got there so we didn’t have any AC the first night. The next day, we talked to the person at the front desk but she said they can’t send someone to fix it until the day after because the maintenance guy was resting. It wasn’t until we said we would have to find another place to stay for the remaining nights and will not be paying for those nights that a person was sent to fix the AC. ||The safety security box also didn’t work when we got there. It took half a day to get it addressed.||We stayed at 2 different hotels during our stay in Atacama and had a good comparison point. The other hotel (Don Tomas) was much closer to town and the service there was excellent. It was only slightly more expensive. We felt this hotel was not worth the cost given all the issues we...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. ||||The Hostal is located about a 7 minute walk from the main town area, this was not a major problem as most days we were collected from there by our tour companies in the early morning hours. It was also nice to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the main centre. ||||Walking towards the town in the evenings was safe and it was easy to navigate the main eating and drinking streets after one quick walk during the afternoon. ||||The property itself was clean and kept tidy at all times. The room was of a very high standard. It was spacious and contained all of the essentials including a humidifier which was a pleasant welcome considering we were in a desert area. ||||We appreciated all of the attention paid to details, such as there being a communal fridge where you could help yourself to a cold beer or water (at extra reasonable charge) and also the presence of a small cafeteria where you could obtain delicious salad's and sandwiches throughout the day, made fresh to order. ||||There was also a small roof terrace to sit and enjoy the sunsets. We did not use the swimming pool but it looked nice.||||Breakfast was available from 4am each day to ensure individuals attending early morning tours (quite regular in this area of Chile) were well fed before departure. It consisted of fruit salad, yogurts, smoothies, coffee, toast, cakes, cereals, meats and cheeses, all of the essentials. There were also chocolate bars, cookies and biscuits for you to take along on your trips outside, a nice touch. ||||The main entrance is kept locked at all times so you feel secure. We found the manager Javier to be incredibly helpful in sorting out tours and providing general assistance. ||||We would highly recommend this hostal, it is noted as a hotel on some other sites, but regardless of the classification, it is a great...
Read moreSan Pedro de Atacama is dry and dusty. Walking through the front door of this hotel is like finding yourself in an oasis, with the sparkling pool and shaded outdoor seating areas. It’s a completely inviting place to wind down with a pisco sour after a hard day of touring. There’s seating in an upstairs terrace too. An honor bar is stocked with water and Coronas. There’s a cafeteria that’s supposedly open from 1:30 to 11:00, though we saw it close well before that on more than one occasion. They make some good sandwiches.||||The hotel is an easy ten-minute walk from town, which is where you’ll find shops and restaurants. There’s a very small mini-mart just down the street.||||Beyond the common area, the quality falters. The rooms are somewhat basic though pleasant, and really what you should expect given where you are: bed, night tables, shelf, television. A bowl of candies is an inviting touch. Bathrooms include blow dryers. Our shower head broke off at first touch, and despite asking twice (and being assured it would be addressed) it was not repaired during our stay. Staff friendliness ranged from considerable to nonexistent; I got a heavy sigh and eye roll when I asked for the wifi password. The level of English spoken varies.||||Breakfast is included, and is served starting at 4am to accommodate...
