I dd not like this place from the moment I set eyes on it but I'll still try to be fair.||||pros:||good wi fi connection||decent sized room on ground floor||clean linens||||cons:||location on an unattractive residential side street in a shabby part of town||entrance door is a locked gate--very uninviting||generally shabby hippy-dippy appearance of interior||grungy looking guy checks us in (no language other than Spanish)||very icky moldy bathroom (see photos)||no hot water in shower (even after asking to have it fixed)||no hot water in sink||had to ask for towels||very basic breakfast of juice, two slices of cheese, two rolls, butter, strawberry jam, instant coffee||burned out light in bedroom||room fronts directly onto sidewalk so there is noise from pedestrians and cars||||For half the price I would have been willing to put up with these deficiencies but not for $75 plus 19% VAT which is tacked on since they insist you pay in pesos. There was no excuse for the hot water--that was a deal breaker.||||Previous reviewers who raved about this place were either delusional or dishonest plants. There is absolutely nothing praiseworthy about this hostel. I've stayed in wonderful hostels throughout New Zealand and Thailand and so have some basis...
Read moreWe stayed here two nights, the sixth hotel/hostal on our Siuth Anerican trip and last before our Cruise from Valparaiso.|The room was small but the bed large and fairly comfortable - I've certainly had worse.|The bathroom was tiny but the shower pressure good.|The wifi was very good, fast and no limits.|The included breakfast was pretty basic but eggs were cooked to order so it ended up being a pretty good accomodation deal at US $76 for two nights. I was initially double charged with the full amount being taken a week before I arrived (un beknown to me) and then charged again when we arrived. I only picked this up by chance as my statement arrived via email when I was there. Had I not picked this up it may have been difficult to get a refund. As it was the owner acted shocked and refunded immediately. However it was booked through a site which does not debit your card (booking dot com) so draw your own conclusion.|I also suggest you book your own taxi if you are going to the port in Valparaiso after your stay as it ended up costing 16 times as much as the bus, and triple what the Hostal owner estimated when we first enquired when...
Read moreI was there in November because a conference in the city center of Viña del Mar, it is a great hostel if you need to rest well and have a decent breackfast to last the whole day. I had a single room with a private bathroom and it was always cleaned. The owner was always super polite and helpful with all the guests, he even bothered to have breackfast ready for me even when I was leaving the Hostal around 6 am!.|Unfortunately I had a problem with the lady who cleans the rooms ( it was her first week in the Hostal), I told Tito (the owner) the whole story and I was very impresed about the commitment Tito put to solve the issue, the lady does not longer work there, so nobody should have the same issues I had. |It is very difficult to find a place where people is really commited to their businesses and the guests as this Hostal so I really recommend this place, even so it is not so close to the city center (what can be easily reached with the shared taxis called "collectivos" for 550 chilean pesos =...
