TL/DR: Yes I would stay here again; great housekeeping and fast service; great service in general from staff; very warm in winter due no control on the air conditioning (so ask for a fan); other guests have tendency to smoke in their rooms; located next to 2 metro lines and other activities.
Full review: I booked this stay months in advance through the Accor App, prior to my trip. This was the 4th and last of all Accor stays in China. All others were at the Sofitel Xi'An, Pullman Shanghai, Mercure Suzhou. This Novotel was renovated in 2019, however, is showing some wear and tear due to the clear popularity of the hotel and the area - Wangfujing. This is also the only midscale hotel in its immediate vicinity that foreigners will be familiar with - its immediate surroundings are the Hilton, Regent, Waldorf Astoria, and the Peninsula hotels. Because of this and its location, it is priced slightly higher than a standard midscale Accor hotel.
The room was tidy on entering, however it was very warm. Unable to control the air conditioning due to local government policy of providing heating to all households and businesses. No windows, unlike our previous other hotels in China where you could cool the room faster. To mitigate, we requested for a fan on our second to last day of our stay and always turned off the air conditioning.
Shower has difficulty in draining after use as the floor is near flat and hard for water to go into drainage. This resulted in some leaks onto the flooring of the bathroom.
On our first to third nights, one of the other guests on the floor we were staying in, consistently smoked in their room and in the hallways. The smell seeped into our room, which made sleeping uncomfortable due to the second-hand smoking. The housekeeping staff on our floor regularly sprayed an air-mister of some sort in the corridor to keep it fresh. While I am not personally against smoking, it would have been ideal for the hotel to either enforce the non-smoking aspect of the hotel, or designate an area in each floor for guest smoking with sufficient ventilation, and hence, would discourage smoking in the hallways and/or rooms.
The housekeeping team is great - always checked if we needed our room tidied, brought extra water everyday, and very fast to respond when we requested a fan and more water bottles from reception. Housekeeper was efficient, kind, and understanding.
Hotel service and reception were generally great. Always greeted with a "Hello" or "Ni Hao" upon exiting from elevator or entering through the door.
The hotel is located inbetween Line 5 - Dengshikou station, and Line 8 - Jinyu Hutong station. Nearby is Yintai Mall, APM Mall, as well as the Wangfujing shopping street. The Forbidden Palace East Gate is 1.2km away and is a straight flat walk west of approximately 20 minutes. Also easily accessible via Lines 5 and 8 are Shichahai, Tian'anmen Square, Temple of Heaven complex. Universal Studious Beijing is approximately an hour away by Subway/Metro, as well as the Great Wall of China...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at the Novotel Beijing Hotel, and it was truly a memorable experience. The hotel's location is most convenient to all the famous sightseeing places within walking distance. The staff were welcoming, professional, and always ready to help with a warm smile. Check-in was smooth, fast, and I felt well taken care of throughout my stay. The staff upgraded my room to a higher level, and I may use the executive lounge. The biggest surprise of staying at the Novotel Beijing Hotel this time was the experience of the executive floor lounge, which was the highlight of the entire trip. Whether it was the environment, service, or food, every detail showed high quality and care, making people linger. The room was clean, comfortable, and nicely appointed, with incredible views of the Forbidden City and Chinese Siheyuan. Breakfast was varied and delicious, with plenty of local touches. I also enjoyed spending time by the pool, which shares the same stunning views of the coastline. Overall, Novotel Beijing Hotel is perfect for anyone looking to relax and sightseeing in Beijing. I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone...
Read moreAt first glance, the hotel looks quite nice and is located in a prime area surrounded by many luxury hotels. However, the surroundings are rather quiet, with very few shops or convenience stores nearby, which might be inconvenient for some travelers.
The staff were friendly and helpful when approached, but overall service was inconsistent — you often have to ask for assistance before receiving it. One major challenge was communication, as most staff spoke very limited English, which made interactions difficult.
The hotel is much smaller than expected, and the rooms, along with the overall facilities, are quite dated and not well-maintained. Cleanliness was average — not dirty, but not particularly comfortable either. One major downside is the pervasive smell of cigarette smoke throughout the hotel, which significantly impacted the overall experience.
While the location is a definite plus, the hotel would benefit from significant improvements in maintenance, cleanliness, and service standards to meet the expectations usually associated with the...
