I v been staying high end hotels across Europe, US and in Asia and my five day stay in Hilton Beijing was horrendously shocking and I hope anyone who read this think carefully before you book.
This is the most horrifying experience and reshape my understand of Beijing capital city - during my stay I was harassed by hotel staff including getting random calls in my room at midnight 2-3 am, male staff kept pushing to go into my room( they obviously know I am a lady staying by myself here), harassing me via private calls, private messages even after I went to bed, when I challenged them they agreed on some small compensation then the next few days non stop harassment and trying to cut down the compensation via private messaging ( which seems super dodgy for a five star global hotel), when I said I would consider raising official complaint their “manager “ called me straight away throwing out threats that if I escalate to their headquarter then they will withdraw all previously agreed compensations and blablabla. They also charge you 1.5 times deposit and weeks after I checked out the money did NOT arrive and since I don’t have a local Chinese phone after I left the country it’s almost impossible to contact them - so I lost almost 2000 pounds (2600 dollar) for five day stay plus all kinds or harassment , threats , rude and dodgy attitude from this hotel.
If you are thinking this is just a normal”Hilton brand” with ok services and ok price - you are wrong - the moment I realised that this isn’t just a normal hotel and I might be in great danger living by myself here, my family flew in to stay with me, and when my local friends heard about my experience they said the locals NEVER choose this hotel as they are known for being dodgy , how they operate is a black box sucking your money and is engaged in some grey business behind the scene. Then I searched for this particular hotel in local websites and found loads of shocking stories…
If you want to protect your family, your private information, your bank account, and are not local Chinese and don’t have any local connections DONT come to this place - now thinking back the vibe in the hotel is just also weird and thrilling being so close to the biggest hospital known for deads in China ( locals said there are sayings that the bad Fengshui had cast curse to this place and the ppl who work there, if you look into their eyes you know they are not normal….this could be drama rumours but after what I experienced I would suggest anyone who come across to this place to have a Second thought before you commit.
Another note on the room — it’s old and many cracks on wall and floor tiles, clearly hasn’t renovated for decade at least, the bed had some strange bugs took me 5 weeks to recover, the curtain was electric-controlled but broken and kept producing loud clicks sounds when opening, had to wait for 10-15 minutes until it goes away, it’s a tall blurred glass separating the shower room and the main living area so you can actually see the other in the shower…. one of the lifts was also broken during my stay and water and construction going on in the hallway….for about two nights there are power cut at night and one night all lights just shut for a few seconds and turned on by itself….they gave me a room that has literally no daylight for a delux king plus room which cost almost 200 pounds a night
The staff who was involved in my incident was Jonathan Wang(王- 房务部经理)and his few colleagues including a lady last...
Read moreLocation is fantastic. Within walking distance to the shopping street and the forbidden city. The subway station is just below the shopping mall next door. If you want shopping, food and site-see, this location is the most convenient!2. The front desk and the concierge are the 2 services that we troubled regularly during our stay of 6 nights. All Chinese site-seeing locations must be pre-booked and the applications are only Chinese-nationals friendly. Without a Chinese ID or a Chinese mobile number, it was impossible to help yourselves, even though we had Wechat and Alipay pre-installed and tested before we left Singapore.3. Front desk team, Leon was the one who checked us in. He struggled to find us rooms on the same floor due to the peak season (23-29 Dec). We were given rooms on separate floor but he gave us lift access to both floors and apologized profusely for the wait and gave us vouchers for drinks at the cafe, which we did not use.4. Concierge team led by Elvis with Alan and Wendy helping, was a fantastic team. Elvis had to use his mobile to help us book Great-Wall tickets, which we paid him through WeChat. During which, someone wanted his help, but he politely tell the guy to wait since he has started helping us first. Polite and put his point across without creating a scene.5. Alan from the concierge team was the one that got us a table at their Christmas eve dinner. They first offered us a 4-seater table squeezing in 6, to be shared with another 2. We turned down the offer and was prepared to end up eating street food or order room service. But on the day itself, he saw us coming back and offered us another table, because they decided to add in more tables, which we took. It was a fantastic buffet dinner with free flow of alcohol and drinks. The highlight was the cutting of a huge blue-fin tuna. The price for the dinner per pax (don't remember how much now) was a fraction of what have to pay in Singapore. The amount of alcohol and tuna sashimi that we had was enough to recoup the dinner price !6. Another observation (now that we have been to Harbin Shangrila after Beijing, we have a comparison) : at the breakfast restaurant, the reception could recognize us on the 2nd day, and remembered our room numbers and that we are family of 4! The training of service staff paying such attention to details can only mean that they believe in service to the core.7. If you are going to Beijing, consider no where else but Hilton at Wangfujing. I know I will be...
