I stayed in both a private room and then the six-bed dorm for over a week. My recommendation is the private room, but if you don't want to shell out the money and just need a relatively non-expensive place to sleep in, then the dorm will do the trick, although you will be sleeping close to strangers who are separated by thin wooden dividers (this really wasn't so bad, and everybody who shared the dorm was quiet and respectful). The hostel is located right in the heart of the hutongs, which gives you a truly authentic Chinese experience. Learn to use the subway - which is very efficient, English-friendly, and just a 7-minute walk away - and you'll be at the Forbidden City, West Railway station, and other prime locations within 15-30 minutes. You won't need a taxi at all except to go to and from the airport. I got sick from some of the restaurants nearby, but found reliable, sanitary, great Chinese food and service at the Huifang Dumpling Restaurant (also called the Xicheng Senior Dining Restaurant) right off the main street from the hutong alley the hostel is located in. You can also order food from the hostel, which has a limited menu with some western Breakfast options and Chinese options. The staff consists of two very kind young ladies with basically perfect English and an adorable Chinese auntie who does the cooking and cleaning. They recently adopted a cute little kitten who keeps things pretty lively there. I already miss this place and the staff and hope to be back soon. I've stayed in Beijing three times, mostly in schools, and this is the best location I've...
Read moreFound it to be a great hostel, the staff were very friendly and helpful with any queries.
The room was nice with very effective A/C, it was also handy to have a locker to keep valuables safe.
The location is good as it's quite close to the Xisi subway station which makes it easy to get to all the major attractions.
The alleyway it's located on can seem a bit dark at night but the area feels very safe as there is almost no crime in Beijing so threse probably little chance of anything untoward happening.
There are quite a few small restaurants and shops nearby, but there aren't many bars in the area as the locals seem to like to drink beer in the small restaurants which close early, there is a really nice bar 20 mins walk away called the Nbeer Pub (85 Huguosi Dajie) which is open until 0200 sometimes. It's also 20 mins walk to the Xaidan district which has a few big...
Read moreAn amazing hostel tucked away in a little hutong neighborhood. The Xisi metro station is a ten to fifteen minute walk away which will give you easy access to Beijing. The bedrooms aren't set up like your typical hostel rooms with wooden barriers and curtains serving as dividers between beds. They have small lockers for storage and plenty of space under your bed to store larger bags and suitcases. The bathrooms, though small, are clean and serviced regularly. The hosts and staff are knowledgeable, kind, and speak perfect English. They also offer tour booking and free bike rentals! Strongly recommend a visit as a solo traveler. It can be a little tricky finding the place so be sure to mark it on your map so you can...
