I recently stayed at the Ibis Hotel Dongdaqiao branch in Beijing and had a pleasant experience overall. The hotel is conveniently located in the Chaoyang district, within walking distance of the Dongdaqiao subway station and a short ride from popular areas like Sanlitun and the CBD. Location is good.The staff were friendly, but didn't speak English. Even using a phone translator, it was not easy to communicate. Even when I showed them English using a phone translator, they refused, preferring Chinese. I don't know Chinese, so it's hard to know if the phone translator translated correctly.The room I stayed in had a strange smell. Situated conveniently between two subway stations that provide access to lines 6 and 10, a 7-11 convenience store next door, and a number of places to eat. Reception was efficient - checking in and checking out. The elevator requires your room key so this provides an extra level of security. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Wi-Fi was very patchy. When traveling we depend a lot on wi-fi to stay in touch with family, to arrange travel and hotel bookings, etc. So the quality of wi-fi usually has a direct impact upon the quality of our stay at the hotel.
