After regularly staying at Scitech Hotel off and on over the past 15 years or more, and seeing the place steadily go downhill, I finally give up. Have just stayed there for the last time! The reason I continued to stay there was the good location, walking distance to embassies and the Diplomatic Residence Compound. But, there is almost nothing redeeming about the place other than that. ||||The hallways are dark and smelly; the rooms are dirty and smelly. The windows are dirty. You can play with the air conditioner/heating controls all you want, but you don't get any change in the temperature of the room. I resorted to opening the tiny window for some "fresh" air, which took hours to filter into the room and then, of course, also brought the city's air pollution into the room as well. Carpets are dirty to filthy. Bathrooms need renovation, although the water pressure is great and there is plenty of hot water. Unbelievably, the TVs are still small cathode ray type, with only a few channels to choose from (CNN one of the few English channels). Beds are hard as stone and pillows uncomfortable. Breakfast buffet is mediocre. Internet wifi is unreliable at best.||||Staff are unfriendly and only a few speak any English. On a recent visit, I needed to to go the airport early (aimed to leave at 5:30 a.m.). No one at the front desk spoke any English and my communication was limited to computer translation of phrases, through which they told me "very difficult to get taxi in middle of the night!). Unbelievably, they couldn't call me a taxi! They finally got one for me around 6:00 a.m., but said I had to pay 50 yuan additional fee (50% more than normal price)!! Ridiculous!!||||I've stayed in worse hotels, but not paying this price. If their rates were cheaper, I'd at least give the place a "poor" rating, but for the price they charge, it's truly "terrible." Management should be embarrassed! I'm sure they are simply squeezing the last yuan of profit out of this place before knocking the building down. They certainly aren't re-investing any money to improve the facilities.||||Scitech Hotel used to be quite good, but it has steadily deteriorated over the years, with little effort to maintain and improve it. Like I said, I've tolerated lots of deficiencies in this hotel over the years, but latest stay is my last; I can't take...
Read moreScitech shopping Mall and Scitech Hotel are well-known address in Beijing for years. Decided to stay at this hotel for three nights recently because I hear its newly furbished. Overall, it’s Ok for just go back to shower and sleep. Accessibility is bad--the new lobby locates at a back street now, not easy to find entrance. Metro station is not that close and very hard to find taxis. The lobby looks grand, but noisy and smelly (I believe people smoked inside the hotel even no smoking signs on). Check in and check out were efficient and friendly. That was pretty much all the service I received during my stay. The room is small and tiny. All facilities look dated even it has been newly decorated. No international TV channels. Breakfast was terrible for the price, poor food selection and lack of service. The hotel branded itself as newly decorated 4 stars, but I can only give 3 stars in general. Even 2 for service standard is a stretch-- the concierge didn’t even offer to help with luggage. Has been told to talk out with bags to try my luck for taxi. Restaurant not open for business because it wasn’t convenient time etc. Facilities eg. gym, pool has to be pay additional fee. The Japanese restaurant at L1 is Ok if you are not in any hurry nor expects authentic Japanese food. It’s OK if a business traveller's Beijing destination is nearby, otherwise...
Read morethis hotel refused to return my deposit after check out. I paid on the trip.com app in full. They said I never paid. They refused to call nor contact trip.com and insisted that they would keep the deposit to pay for the room. The worker at the front desk was very rude and refused to get a manager. I asked 100 times for a manager. They told me after 2 minutes that the manager would come. I was there for about 10 minutes and no manager came. I had to leave because I had high speed train tickets booked. So at this point, I left the hotel without my deposit being refunded. This employee is should be fired. This hotel should be removed from trip.com. They tried stealing 6,600 rmb from me. Luckily, I was able to get it back. This doesn’t make sense at all because when I checked in, they said I paid and they were only taking a deposit. Also, the hotel is not 5 star. It’s an old rundown hotel. They have lights broken in every room (I booked two rooms). Also, lots of uncivilized people staying here. I had to call security 4 times because it’s was almost midnight and people are yelling in the halls and hotels doors opened. I’ve lived in China for 5 years and this is one of the worst experiences that I’ve had. I’m going to be reporting this to the Chinese...
