This hotel has a lot of potential as it is very nice inside. However, they have some very weird systems which led to many problems!! For example, you have to sign your mini bar bill (which the maid leaves) before they will restock it. So they need to send another person around after the maid to check this. So you have two people entering your room and the mini bar refill is slow!! Also, they have to give you your breakfast coupons every day, which the maid leaves in your room. The second day she only gave us one, so we had to enter into a long dialogue to get the second. The service is very "Chinese", meaning they will happily scowl at the customers or argue over the smallest point. A good example of this was in the coffee shop next to, but owned by the hotel. We ordered chocolate waffles, and they brought us waffles with a tiny squirt of chocolate sauce on. When we asked for more sauce they told us it would cost 3RMB!! They did finally make the order again with more sauce but it took a lot of negotiation. I would never stay in this place again because of these niggles..... the management need to get better...
Read moreThe Carianna is fairly well located - just over the road is a big temple with a vegetarian restaurant next to it, and to one side of the hotel is a coffee shop and the other there's a branch of CITS for any last minute travel arrangements.||Staff were quite helpful although most of them had very little English - travelling with a Mandarin speaker so that wasn't an issue.||Room is ok; shower wasn't particularly wonderful but wasn't awful either. Television is a 12 inch affair, with pretty poor reception||What is good is the ability of the staff to drop the price - just by asking for a discount we got 100 RMB off what they quoted originally.||Less good - to hear the sound of the guy in the shop in the lobby hawking up phlegm all night while you're...
