Stayed in Manhattan hotel on my 2 nights visit to Harbin. The hotel is nicely located just across the road from Sophia Church and 15 mins walk away from Zhong Yang Street (the famous shopping street) and Zhaolin Park. There are plenty of eateries nearby so you will not go hungry.||||We booked the standard double room and it can easily fit 4 person. There is a minimart near the entrance where you can get water, soft drinks and snacks.||||Room is reasonably clean with clean sheets and towels. 2 bathrobes and 2 pair of slippers provided (can request for more). it is impossible to expect 100% clean carpet because sand + snow = muddy slush. ||||The room is equipped with a electronic safe (had some problem due to lack of batteries that was quickly remedied), blow dryer (we got a spoil one but got a replacement easily), mini fridge (conveniently empty but we did not utilize it) and TV with mainly chinese channels.||||Shampoo and bath gel is provided, also toothbrush, comb and hair cover. there is a plastic can full of toiletries, please note that you have to pay for them (35 yuan if I am not mistaken). There are bottles of soft drinks near the TV, also chargeable.||||The room came with standing shower and the major complaint is the water temperature. It is impossible for the bath water to stay warm. basically the water temperature will fluctuate between scalding hot and warm or freezing cold and warm every 5 seconds. ||||The bed is hard (normal standard for hotels in China).||||2 free sockets to charged your electronics (type A and type O with 3 prong). So make sure to bring your travel adapter.||||Free in-room WIFI.||||Free breakfast leave much to be desired. The dining room is chilly so the food turn cold very fast. They serve mainly local dishes to serve mainly Chinese Clientele. ||||The wife is a native speaker so we did not encounter any communication issue. But I believe non-chinese speaking guests may encounter problem communicating coz most of the staff don't speak English.||||There is a travel agency near the hotel reception. We actually booked a trip to the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival from there. They provide transport and entrance ticket for 300 Yuan per pax. They actually forgot about us and we missed the transport, so they arranged alternative transport (a private car) for us but we ended up waiting for around 1 hour for the car to arrive and we have to look for the contact at the festival to get our tickets. Not a pleasant experience.||||overall we enjoyed our stay in Manhattan Hotel (other than the fluctuating bath water temperature) and will not hesitate to stay there again...
Read moreThe location is amazing and can not be beaten in Harbin, the views of Sophia Church from the hotel are equally as impressive. These are the only good things about this hotel. The room we were in absolutely stank of sewerage/plumbing as it had an open bathroom design. The smell was from the toilet and was terrible but the front desk staff barely spoke English so didn’t bother requesting to change rooms as we were only staying for two nights. We paid a lot (over $200 usd per night) to stay at the hotel and the bed was not even made properly on the second night, photo taken is of the ‘bed made’ when we came back from a full day of sight seeing. The breakfast was equally as poor, there weren’t enough tables for guests and the food while very clearly focussed on the majority Russian clientele was just inedible for the most part. We ended up leaving and finding breakfast options out of the hotel (in -20 degree weather) rather than staying and trying to politely endure the food options. We didn’t even bother going down for breakfast our 2nd morning. The hotel is the epitome of a once grand Soviet hotel that’s simply not been maintained at all. There are fire extinguishers by the walls on every floor as if they’re expecting the hotel to go up in a whoosh of fire. Location is amazing but I’d stay further out than staying at...
Read moreThis hotel is located on Zhaolin St, near the Sophia's church tourist attraction. We arrived and were treated fairly well at first. We were a party of 3 staying for 1 week (7 days)We were coming from another hotel, after we couldn't check in late, and our reservation had been cancelled. We were quoted 650 RMB per night and were told by the reception it was a very special price, made just for us. We quickly agreed as it was already 10 PM and we wanted to shower up and get to bed. ||||Our 2nd day, we started searching online for our hotel. On booking sites, we noticed prices as low as 500 per night for a standard room just like ours. We went to talk to reception and were met with a really bad attitude. They also magically forgot how to speak English and became very rude. They started lying to us and backtracking. They really did give us a special price. A ripoff price! Very greedy, as stated by another reviewer. I'll add dishonest too. ||||What happened next, after showing them the prices online, they magically were able to lower our room rate as it wasn't "locked in" as explained by their dishonest management. So obviously this hotel was being sneaky. It is a good location and the rooms weren't bad, but due to this dishonesty and greediness we will never be...
