I was in quarantine and had to choose an apartment pretty quickly due to impromptu travel plans. I trusted the Harbour Plaza brand and decided on 8 degrees because it looked good online (mind you, in quarantine so couldn't check any place out in person). I booked a 3 month stay in the serviced apartment Deluxe 45 room.
To summarize my experience: this hotel is a scam. Go literally anywhere else.
Please find my reasons below, and keep in mind I foolishly paid $13,900 monthly for this (they are now trying to charge $14,900):
The surrounding area is fairly run-down and not much going on. Before you get me wrong, I want to say I actually really enjoy the area. But you have to keep in mind the extremely high price point--this is north of some really nice options in central or tst, which i learned after being here a while.
The images in the gallery look 10x better than reality (typical in my experience, but this is something else). The view for the Deluxe 45 is supposed to be overlooking the water. In reality, it overlooks a ton of construction with cranes blocking your view, run-down buildings, and a bunch of other eyesores.
Similar to above, the entire hotel looks incredibly tacky and like it was built 30 years ago--even though it was erected in 2010. The pool is pretty unexciting and seldom used by guests, the carpets look dirty (a friend said it looked like how they would imagine a brothel would be on the inside), the furniture in the rooms is cheap and plain, some parts of the rooms look like they haven't been cleaned in years. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea.
Not livable. Absolutely NO STORAGE, and annoying lack of outlets. Tiny trash bins. Not nearly enough area to store your clothes. More suitable for a weeklong stay, definitely not a long-term place.
The WiFi is so terrible I have to switch to data to go on Whatsapp/FaceTime calls.
AC is loud as hell. I usually turn it off when watching TV because it drowns out the sound.
The hotel doesn't alert you to when your dining credits run out. Don't be surprised if you get a bill tallying several hundreds of dollars of their low-quality food for the past month that went beyond your credits. If you call to complain, they basically say it's your fault and offer no assistance.
They don't bring ordered food up to you, so you have to run back and forth if busy or too lazy to go out (might sound snobby, but this is very standard service for any worthwhile hotel in hk).
They don't treat their guests well. A few weeks in, they just stopped entertaining my requests for new towels and limited me to changes once a week. I'm paying $13,900 a month, and they won't allow me to exchange a towel if I got it dirty somehow. Let...
Read moreAvoid Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees: A Disappointing Stay in Every Aspect||Staying at Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees was one of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve encountered. Here’s why:||1. Shady and Unsafe Location: The hotel is tucked away in a dark, unpleasant area surrounded by car repair shops, dustbins, and an overall unsafe atmosphere. Not a place you'd want to walk around, especially after sunset.||2. Inconvenient Accessibility: There’s no shopping area or basic amenities nearby. For anything, you need to walk over a kilometer to the nearest metro station and then travel at least three stops. The location is at the farthest end of Kowloon, which means heavy transportation costs—public transport in Hong Kong isn’t cheap, and taxis are exorbitant.||3. No Basic Amenities: The hotel doesn’t provide bottled water or essential toiletries, citing vague “government guidelines” which they conveniently fail to display. We cross-checked with other hotels, and they did provide these basics, so clearly, this excuse doesn’t hold water—literally.||4. Nonexistent Concierge Service: The concierge desk might as well not exist. We couldn’t get a taxi arranged for the airport or Disneyland, leaving us to fend for ourselves.||5. Unwelcoming Staff: The staff was indifferent, rude, and outright unhelpful. Despite booking months in advance and requesting adjoining rooms, we were assigned rooms seven floors apart. Clearly, they don’t care about guest preferences or comfort.||6. No Lobby Seating: The hotel lobby doesn’t even have a basic seating area. Waiting for anything becomes a frustrating ordeal.||7. Limited Dining Options: While they do offer basic Indian food, the kitchen closes early, leaving you stranded if you need a late meal.||8. Terrible Value for Money: Everything about this hotel screams cost-cutting. From the lack of amenities to the poor service, it’s a stark contrast to the premium pricing.||Verdict: Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees is a disaster in terms of location, service, and amenities. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, avoid this hotel at all costs. There are far better options in Hong Kong, even in the...
