Yide Hotel is a very authentic 300 years old courtyard hotel, combining the charme of the old, which is preserved with great care, with all amenities, including a modern bathroom, central heating and a great western breakfast (or of course a Chinese one, if you prefer that). It is located in a conveniently quiet area of the old town, just a 5 minutes walk away from the busy center, all the sightseeing spots, restaurants and shops. ||But as important as the actual premises is the extraordinary service! Julie from the front desk speaks excellent English and certainly went the extra mile to make me happy - and to get me into the Old Town in the first place. I visited Pingyao when traveling in China was still kind of difficult for foreigners. She provided all the information on what kind of documents I would be needing and passed them on to the local authorities before I even arrived. On arrival she accompanied me to the city gate and helped me to get registered (and in 😊). ||Needless to say that the hotel can arrange trips for you and organizes car, driver and also an English speaking guide (Jonathan was great!), if required. There are some very nice places for a day tour close by. ||There is a lot of construction work going on in the less touristy areas of the town. If you want to experience the until now still existing unspoiled flair of an old Chinese settlement don't wait too long with...

Read moreMy husband reports he stayed, at this wonderful, authentic, traditional, quaint and superb hotel from November 7 through 10, 2018. The entire hotel is authentic to the 200 year old time period of its construction. Though old, it is in great condition. It is clean, sturdy, quiet and comfortable. The furnishings are also authentic to its period while comfortable and relaxing. The classic bed is built into the room at about 8' sq with high quality linen and comforter. Though quite cold at the time of my stay I was very comfortable throughout each night. The in house restaurant had an extensive menu of Chinese and western options. He enjoyed all 3 meals here and each was delicious and interesting. The staff was fluent in English, very accommodating and always present in the office. They went out of their way to insure he enjoyed the hotel as well as Pingyao. Pingyao is a treasure in the center of Shanxi Province. A trove of history, architecture, commerce and wonderful people. It is easily accessed via the direct bullet train out Beijing through the provincial capital city Taiyaun. From the train station bus #108 takes you to the Ancient City for 1 yuan. Visiting Pingyao and staying at the Yide hotel was a top notch trip. He has spent 2 years working in China and has traveled China from XiNing, to LiJiang, Kunming, Dali, Xi'an, LouYang, Suzhou, etc. Pingyao, and the Yide, was...
